@@DrAndreaFurlan I have been diagnosed with “chronic pain” for about 20 years. In my experience (USA & UK) “chronic pain” is simply 24/7 pain & NOT psychological pain as you stated. What is correct? I know that pain doctors “don’t like to treat the MRI” but I’m one of those patients who’s pains can easily be predicted by looking at my scans, my damaged spine, discs & nerves explain my pain. Should I stop saying that I suffer from “chronic pain” when talking to doctors in England? (My problems started while I lived in the USA & I’ve only recently returned to live in England.

Very glad to get this information. I get so frustrated trying to explain my pain that I flounder around looking for the words I want to use. If I rehearse this method at home and carry notes, I believe it would relieve some of the stress and awkwardness I feel and help the doctor understand what information I’m trying to convey to them, making it easier to get treatment I need. Thank You.

Thank you for taking the time to explain the S.O.C.R.A.T.E.S method! Many of my doctors seem to use this and just hand the form to you without much explanation. They ask to just complete it in office that morning and its difficut to remember or even have the time to dedicate to completing the form. Its wonderful you provided the form as well=) I can complete this as you suggest ,but prior to the appointment and create an thorough legend. I wish my doctors would email their form to me prior to the appointment ,but with your form on hand I can transfer the information to their form and not miss anything because I'm rushing. Thank you for informative video and coordinating the connection to your other videos that pair well with the topic! Blessings to you and your team for helping so many who live with chronic pain! Dr Furlan, you are what a REAL doctor should be! Respect. Would like to ask, is there any hope for pain relief for my elderly mother who has pain originating from a damaged disc radiating all the way down to her leg, she wakes up from pain at night crying some times. Strong medications the neurologist had given her knock her off (severely disorientated), the physio she's doing doesn’t help much, she's in her 80s. Please help if you can, she can hardly walk now and getting soo depressed from the constant pain. Thank you in advance.

Try to find the exact word to describe my pain becomes difficult and some doctors do not have the time to wait for the patient to come up with the right word . They even pick out a word for us and being conscious of the time we just nod our head if it is somewhat closer to what we want to say. So i try to write it down and have all my questions ready, but still miss out on some . Thank you for your video.

Hi, I have been going to pain doctors and physical therapy and I tell them it only hurts when I stand up and walk. Two minutes later while I am sitting down they will ask me how much pain I am in at this moment. So I tell them again it only hurts when I walk and it hurts alot I can't walk very far because of the pain so I would call that 8, 9, 10. My pain has not gotten any better with medication, shots, nerve oblation, back and knee but it doesn't hurt when I am sitting down or in bed. What do you think? Help!!!

I explained my pain to two different doctors and then got an appointment with pain management. It was very frustrating because they messed up my appointments three times. When I finally spoke to the doctor at pain management and went through my story again and she told me, I've looked at your records. He then told me they couldn't help me unless I wanted steroid shots in my hip or a referral to a surgeon. It's very frustrating, I've tried all the things, exercising at home, physical therapy, chiropractic and nothing has really helped. I have Medicare so they do not cover very much and when they do the patient is responsible for 20% of whatever it is, such as physical therapy. All I was asking for was a little medication help to get me through the harder days but instead I'm going to get to be best friends with my recliner and the remote. I was made to feel like that I would probably abuse the drugs and become an addict.

Moja kochana Pani Doktor, bardzo dziękuję. Chciałabym, powiedzieć to innym Lekarzom w Polsce.

This is a common problem all over the U.S. they want the money 💲 but don't want you to ask questions. Many doctors don't want to spend much time with you, they schedule to many people for appointments at a time.I just want to let you know how it is here thanks have a great evening. !!!!!

Hi Maura, I disagree with you. Bone scans, MRIs, X-rays do not show where the pain is coming from in the majority of patients. We use those tests after we do a pain history and physical exam if necessary. It is a wrong idea to think that imaging tests will show where the pain is coming from.
