Here we successfully complete an oil change on an 2014 ford F-150 5.0
using 5w-20 full synthetic castrol motor oil and a K&N oil filter

You should mention that everyone make sure that the old oil filter gasket actually came out on the filter and isn’t still stuck on the engine block. You don’t want to double gasket it.

Safety first... (Two)Six ton Jack stands too; With a 4 ton hydraulic jack to cover, and the ramps, chocks, make sure it's in park, and turned off; With a good functioning emergency brake on full; And make sure the area is secure... Just changed mine. Will get some ramps for future. This is the only vehicle I have ever done a change on in which the drain plug was actually at the back of the pan and at a point where you could elevate the front of the vehicle and not impede draining. Actually a pretty easy job on this truck.

You should mention that the extra half quart of oil you added didn't reach the engine's upper end and DIDN'T FLUSH OUT ANYTHING.

Thx! I did an oil change on my Hubbies new-used F150 and wanted to make sure there wasn't a transmission pan for me to drain!! Got it done easily because of you!!! You were the only video that showed exactly where the oil pan was! As many oil changes I have done on my many vehicles ( I'm a rural mail carrier, so I have to do them monthly or at lease every 2 months), I have never known about pulling the dip stick out a bit! I hate pulling the filter off, no matter what, I get my hand covered in oil, any tip for that?

I wear latex gloves, cheapo ones at any store..also make sure the gasket on old filter comes off and is not stuck on engine block, it happens.

I have question. We did a oil change on my husband truck. The required amount is 5.7 litres (6 quarts). But he can only put in 4 litres. The dipstick says it's full. Do you think that's ok ?

It didn’t drain completely. So instead of a complete oil change you had some old stuff left over and mixed in. If you did the flush as he did there would be even less of the old stuff left behind

Short answer yes if you want, I have a k&n air filter so I wash it every year depending on km, but if you have an OEM you can change every oil change or once a year depending on km

Dumping a quart of oil to flush out the engine is just throwing money away. I've never even heard of anyone doing that . Having had several vehicles with over 200,000 miles on them, I would just say skip that step.

Not a bad idea but at 70 years old I’ve never done it either. I regularly get over 300,000 miles on my engines, unless one of my ex practice wives totaled the vehicle first. My trick is change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles no matter what the manuals say. Guess that could be considered throwing money away to some.

Hi, look to see if you have a skid plate in the way, oil pan drain bolt are usually located in a visible location, tend to make and year model

Your using synthetic oil and your oil cap did not call for synthetic oil. Can you use synthetic oil ?

Typically as a vehicle gets older people will switch to synthetic. Just know once you go to synthetic, you ALWAYS use synthetic.

Minute 10:40. The filter oil does not drain through the funnel because you set the truck on the ramps. Otherwise it would have gone the right way.

Had mine on a flat and much still went backward. another vid suggested propping up the other end of that drain sluice with a towel to force the oil forward. Either way, no bid deal.

You can change the brand every single time. The name doesn’t matter one bit as long as it’s a top shelf brand. Just make sure it’s the correct viscosity and not mixing synthetic with regular oil

I believe That this fx4 f150 truck did indeed have a full skid plate, but the previous owner quite possibly might of had it removed for easy accessibility, but I doubt he was ever under there, some people like it but in retrospect it does add an extra 10/15 min (removal time) to your task if you need to access anything that it’s covering

pre filling the oil filter it totally unnecessary, there is a youtube of a mechanic that made a clear filter and it filled up on the first crank, less than split second. The ramp funnel works if the truck is level

It says 7.7 qt for the 5.0 in the owner’s manual. I always just do the 8 never had a problem I don’t think .3 qts of oil is really not a difference as much as a whole qt if you Lea it at 7 qt. As far as him flushing more oil. By adding more oil 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. You never get all the oil out during an oil change. And it’s is going to turn brown the minute you start it and it mix with all the oil in the passage ways of the block, oil coolers.
