@calbar87932 жыл бұрын
It was route running / receiver scheming. Johnson knew this since 97. He had an inability to get talent and appopriate schemes on offense. Marino not figuring out short passes is a joke of a reason. Guy could easily throw short passes and get the ball out quick. Go watch the games between 97-99 on Miami and pause after the offensive snaps. Those receivers are running converging and sitting routes being blanketed in coverage. Their offense had no speed. Compare it to their playoff components who DID have speed - Rod Smith, Jimmy Smith, Joey Galloway. Miami had an on-his-way out McDuffie, possession receiver Gadsen and the remainder were scrubs. It’s astonishung they were even in the playoffs these years with that offense
@STP43FAN12 жыл бұрын
Cal Bar, you know for fact what I think Kuechenberg made clear - when opponents took away Marino’s deep game he never adapted. If Marino was so damned good he’d have adapted to and made better the guys he had.
@STP43FAN15 ай бұрын
Cal Bar, Marino’s completion percentages kept deteriorating - 58% 1997, 57% 1998, 55% 1999. That’s not receivers that’s a quarterback who’s throwing ability and reading of the field is the problem. Joey Galloway was never an asset he was a liability. Rod Smith couldn’t succeed until he got John Elway. Why is it so awful to admit MARINO was the problem and nothing else?

From 1996-2001, Jacksonville made 4 and Miami made 5 postseason appearances in 6 seasons. Jacksonville has made 3 and Miami has made 2 in the 19 seasons since then. Also, the 2 of the Jaguars 4 victories in their inaugural season in 1995 game against the Browns. Then they won all 6 games against the Ravens from 1996-1998, which was the 3 year period that the Browns moved to Baltimore and left Cleveland without a team. Then when Cleveland got their turds back (Side note: WTF, Cleveland? Your football team looked like and was named like poop. That team abandoned you. Three years later you get a brand new NFL franchise and you name it the.... Browns? Again? Jesus Christ, Cleveland.) they defeated the Browns and Ravens each twice in 1999. The defense was ok not great also doesn’t help when your coach is already checked out doesn’t care anymore that was Jimmy Johnson who just so happened to quit on the Dolphins a year before after they got absolutely mauled by the Broncos. They also didn’t deserve to make the playoffs in 99 they would’ve been better off missing it.
