@@TheJourneyIsWhatMatters It's just a different game when the money matters. This is one of the few hands I've seen Keating play where you can actually see him feel something. He looks stressed to make the call with second nuts (as he should be in that spot..but for a smaller pot certainly would just snap it off). Also, when he calls you can see his reluctant acceptance of his fate to lose to the nuts, only to quickly turn into extreme relief to win the hand. This is not normal for Keating. Imagine winning all in 200bb deep in a .01/.02 game. Do you feel anything? No. Probably not. It's easier to be humble and less emotional in those spots when you don't feel anything. Don't get me wrong, Keating is still great, but Keating's conduct is not anything exceptional here even though I love him on the show and his personality.
@TheJourneyIsWhatMatters
@TheJourneyIsWhatMatters 2 жыл бұрын
@@jaredf9055 I don't think anyone can say with certainty to what degree the money matters for Keating. I agree that the theme with him is that none of this money matters, but that's all speculation. I agree we can see a change in his demeanor and that he is "feeling" something, but I think that "feeling" is more of him just wanting to make the right play. I don't think it's fair or accurate to assume his character/demeanor is tied to the value he places on the money - we have literally seen no evidence of that - and you yourself just said you perceived him appearing "stressed" for the first time given the size of this pot...well, look how he handled himself...I'd say just as well as if it was a pot half the size or 5 times the size. I guess I'm a little confused - it sounds like you are saying we shouldn't really commend Keating for the way he carries himself because the money doesn't matter to him....but then you also admit that it seemed like the money in this pot mattered to him? It seems like that's what you're saying and we all saw how he carried himself in this pot (where you say the money might have mattered) - he carried himself the same way as he always does....which is my point, he's humble and stoic no matter what...

There’s an argument that this is the play because it’s Keating. Everyone knows you don’t bluff Keating, however… If Keating’s strategy is to advertise his style on HCL for reaping benefit during private games, then he might have a guiding policy of “say yes to big spots that show I’m a gambler” and then in private games he always shows up with the nuts in these spots

Would not always work with Ben. I ran this hand many times, well using Great and Balanced Players. Against a well balanced player, the worst hand you can call with is a Non-Broadway Queen High Flush. In Handz' shoes, an equilibrium player will have the K high Flush as the rock bottom of his rasing range trynna target the Q high flush. But balanced players always have Bare Ace as a bluff. Hence that enables Q high flush to call the river sometimes in Alan's seat and K high flush to raise in Handz' seat

I used to love poker. I’d play tournaments in my hometown in Brazil, for 30 bucks( US), it was fun and tackled my boredom. The club closed and the boredom started to hit me hard, so I moved to cash games. I was already battling depression, so I’d do anything to take my thoughts out of the darkness, and poker fulfilled it. Unfortunately, I became addicted and lost a lot of money. Poker is ruthless, because you can make all the right moves, but you take that 1 outer at the river, and you fell dead inside. It’s not fair. The highs in poker are 100 but the lows are 1000000. Switched to chess. Just recreational. No money envolved. But I do miss playing this son of a bit***

No one is really commenting about which bare As hands Handz still has by the river, with this board I doubt he's barreling the turn with any off suit AK AQ AJ A9 combo's. AT, A7, A3 make sense but suddenly the nr of bluffs drop dramatically imo. Great to see him go for this bluff.

@@janreldelacruz1674 well A. Handz didn't know that and B. Keating's range is huge, so him having the literal nuts (since Hands had the A of spades) is pretty unlikely. Much more likely he has a weaker flush, a weak straight or trips, in which case the 500k bluff almost certainly would have worked.

What a play.... how he identified that even K and Q high flushes can be put under massive pressure on that board... and the balls of steel to actually pull the trigger... sick. nah, he would not do it if he knew Alan had K or Q high flush, Alan has reputation of calling station.. The most surprising thing is how long it took keeting to call. Historically he would of snap called with a 3 high flush there. This means his game is improving to even think about it that long that he could be beat. based on how it was played, its hard to put him on an ace high flush there.

not true, as someone in the video said, it was a polarised play, as Handz was holding A of spades, he knew that the only hand Alan put him is A high flush (if Handz had something). Remember that Handz raised preflop 5,5x, so he had all A2+ of spades in his range, Alan beats nothing, only pure bluff. I think Handz played this pretty well
