You can kind of tell, looking back, just how bitter a lot of the news stations/reporters were at this whole thing, and how they clearly blamed CN and the marketing campaign for "making them look like paranoid conspiracy theorists," when talking about it like they were actual bombs. Just the level of actual anger being thrown around in the reports that it was a failed marketing campaign.

It showed a great generational divide here. From what I remember it was a staff member for our mayor at the time who recognized that they were Mooninites cause not a lot of people over the age of like, 40 at the time was watching adult swim so had 0 idea what they were while my classmates (14 at the time) all knew what it was and thought this was awesome.

I honestly think it was stuff like this that eased the main media networks into the mindset where they had absolute confidence that they could straight up maliciously lie and cause panic as long as they had a reasonable enough scapegoat for the majority of the public that's too naive and trusting of them to blindly rely on them for accurate information. I was 16 at the time and I not only had been watching the show and Adult Swim itself since the beginning when I was 10, but now had the Internet to hear people talking about it. I knew instantly how silly it was, but didn't know the marketers got "punished" for it until now because I forgot about it assuming everyone would laugh it off

The additional context of the "yes era mystery billboards" clarified why cartoon network / turner broadcasting would even attempt this kind of campaign in the first place and I've never seen that aspect discussed before. This incident was absolutely absurd. The one thing you didn't mention here that probably deserves to be mentioned: the devices had been in place for about 2 weeks when the incident occurred. I don't know either to mock Bostonians for being so slow to react to a 'threat' or just mock them that light bright advertisements are a threat. The most hurtful labeling was calling the ads "terrorism", "terrorism hoax", or "PR stunt". They were ads marketing a product. They had no intention to be anything more than that and any reasonable person would immediately understand that. All these media characters, politicians, and police trying to save face by saying "this was the reaction they were trying to create" are not only wrong, but lying because they were either trying to blame someone else for their own incompetence or repeating the incompetent's lie. Boston police was rightly mocked for their stupidity and we should never forget how they tried to legally blame innocent people for their own incompetence.

Do you know what I feel is the funniest part about this dumb fiasco? It's 110% in-character for Ignignokt and Err to pull a stunt like this. Like, no joke, they've probably laughed their butts off over the prospect that they are so high above the human race that their mere presence in Boston was able to spread panic, make national news and almost brought Adult Swim and Cartoon Network down to its knees. Seriously, I can't imagine their reaction being anything else!

Great breakdown! I had seen a video that broke down what happened at the time, but all of the later stuff (like what happened to everyone) was brand new to me. That's too bad they couldn't get the Boston episode together with the network. A show like South Park would've had a field day with that kind of thing and they missed out 😕

Then universal would have to pay Paris 2 million dollars and then Chris Meledandri will feel bad for letting it happen and quit his job as CEO of Dreamworks and illumination and the news everywhere will talk about it and fox news mistakingly thought that mr wolf, mr shark, mr snake, and mr piranna were all hackers and governers and a fan called them to tell them they're not and they responded and said sorry like how fox news mistakingly thought that master shake, meatwad, and frylock were all mooninites and in dreamworks when the character voice actors heard of what happend they recorded an not so family friendly hour and a half long recording of bad guys it happening in the bad guys world and making fun of the event and them dreamworks animators thought it was so funny that they animated it and a possible movie was being made titled The Bad Guys 3: Paris like how a episode of aqua teen hunger force was going to be made called bostain but then universal saw it and cancelled it 75 percent in and they said they would finish the movie way later and a ton of years after the event but then it got leaked online and it's about the gang with Diane Foxington marketing themselves as heroes until when they make lights and mrs Tarantula and Diane Foxington make lights of themselves and put them in Paris then the cops of Paris argue with one cop saying it's a light while the other cops say it's a bomb and then Diane Foxington and mrs Tarantula go to jail in Paris because of "attempted bombing" in Paris and then mr wolf and the others go home and look at the internet and find that people are selling fake Diane Foxington and mrs Tarantula LCD lights and then they are like at least we made some money but then mr snake says he spent all the money on a giant light which on the side plug in and watch your city burn and then snake plans to bring it up to Paris and raise self awareness on they're asses and then they accidently put in the police chief's house and she touches it and it expoldes and then the fbi force came and they put wires on the police chief making the fbi force think she's a bomb then she explodes and then the fbi member says calm down Paris is safe now then wolf says but it's Los Angleles then the fbi member says well now both are safe and then wolf says what about the police chief and then he says she was a bomb remember and then a sandwhich piranna was eating the fbi squad said stand back it's a bomb then piranna walks away and he explodes then the fbi squad says no he was a bomb then looking on a tv marmalade and his butler joking looking like pakastanians says when the sandwhich molds it will explode and our reigh on the western world will continue then then shark throws it away then they're like lets stack on more sandwhichs then then his butler says we are in a cave remember then marmalade says oh right.

Craig of the Creek is a pretty recent show, but it's actually a pretty good watch. It basically takes the outdoor playtime of kids where some episodes focus on the fantasy part and other's the reality part, although sometimes they blend in a bit of both.

Yeah. Tho, it's sad that this cause the entire animation industry to stop making the thick-line style in traditional animation (not counting indie internet animation). Sadly, the only hand-drawn animated series that still used thick-lines after that situation were SpongeBob/The Patrick Show (both less frequently, tho), Butch Hartman's work (until Bunsen is a Beast) and OK KO. The style now only occurs in Flash animation.

I remember I started watching Adult Swim from day one. Because I was like 10 I thought the point was that the adults went swimming so it was time for the kids to watch TV or something. Yooo PAtMac! Love that dude, glad to hear his voice again! I think this is my fav coverage of this incident because it gives so much more context and history. The thing that shocks me the most is that the people responsible for simply placing the boards up were arrested or even faced charges when they were just doing their job, even if all serious charges were dropped and it was only community service they shouldn't have been treated like that.

I remember when this all went down! I’ll never forget! I hear a reporter saying “aqua teen hunger force” like she was saying a foreign word she’d never seen before. And I thought, oh, they called in a bomb threat. Oh that sounds like them. They’re insane. This, adult swim cartoon is truly number 1 in the hood, g.. from what I've heard from rebel taxi's pizza podcast starring the creator of king star king... adult swim has a smaller budget than cartoon network, which is ok for me, the animation style really fits the show. Such a shame what happened
