Hi Boyd, really enjoying the build - I am just starting my refit build, and finding these really helpful. It would be good to know how you do your overall light blocking - did you paint the interior of the hull black then white, and then put stick the led strips on tops of this, or did you put the led strips on (mask these) then light block the interior - just wondered as wasnt sure if the led strips would adhere properly to a painted surface (and perhaps peel off over time). Thanks again, and continue the good work. Chris

I like your seam masking. I do the same thing when I build aircraft with natural metal finishes. (The fewer scratches you get on the model, the fewer you have to polish out. Metallizer shows every scratch!) I don't use putty though, I just use Testors tube glue! (If the gap is larger I'll sand some plastic sanding dust and mix that with the glue for putty.) I do still use tube glue for major assembly. If you get a nice bead coming up out of the joint, sometimes you don't even need to fill seams. Just a little sanding/polishing and you're done!

I'm confused. (Easy to do.) Where did this big lip on the bottom of the saucer come from? Did you glue the light sides onto the bottom as opposed as attaching them to the bottom of the top part of the saucer? Is that an optical illusion from light blocking?

She's coming along really nicely Boyd, learning a lot about leds and wiring. I like the fact you won't except donations, your a stand up guy for that. Keep up the Awesome work my friend. Andy.

Thanks Andy, I addressed the donation thing because believe it or not some folks get offended if you don't accept them. They want to contribute. I wanted to explain my reasons and let people know that I appreciate the thought and not to worry. I'm doing well and the channel isn't going to go away.

I bought a 50th Anniversary model of the Star Trek Enterprise 1:650 scale. I want to add some LED lighting. I'm using a single speed Dremel tool to drill out the windows. I'm running into a problem and that is the drill is spinning so fast the drilled out plastic is melting on the 1/32 bit. Any advise to give be fore I tackle the rectangular windows?

Where did you get the controller circuit board to flash the LEDs on the Saucer? Also what did you use for the light blocking on the Saucer? Thank you.

Love the channel , you're a true gent not taking donations , I know of some channels out there that are always asking for money, at the end of the day we all build for a love of the hobby. Always wanted to do the 1\350 refit but struggle to get lighting sets in the UK, one day that itch will be scratched ! but for now you're videos are keeping me sane. Keep up the good work and keep them videos coming, regards Andy

What size are the three SMD's that face the rear from the Planetary Section? You said a Large for the front and small for the sides but you neglected to mention a size for the three at the rear? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Great video again Sir. I do have one question regarding the smd LEDs. The site you referred to has a few different ones on offer and I don't want to end up with lights that would put a star to shame. :-) do you remember the Cd rating of the ones you used?

Hi Boyd, Love your channel, I'm building a refit along with your current build and was wondering where you source your smd's and your 1.8mm LED's with the extended tip? I've looked sevral places online without much luck. Thanks for any help and keep up the great work on your channel Travis M.

Thanks for the tip in taping off the seams prior to the application of putty. It's tips like these, and the many detail mods that you include, even in advanced kits like the 1:350, that really hits home for those returning/beginners, regardless if this is the kit we are working on. I'll be using the tape off step on my 1:1000 TOS 1701 on the bench for sure.

What brand power supply (on your work desk) are you using to test your electronics?
@TrekWorks
@TrekWorks 10 жыл бұрын
raist3001 I bought the power supply off of ebay. It doesn't have a brand name on it that I can see. It was $50.00 with free shipping. It puts out between 1-15 volts dc up to 8 amps.

Great Stuff Boyd! What are your favorite paints for top coatings actually? I mainly still use enamel most of the time for most of my airliners...
@TrekWorks
@TrekWorks 10 жыл бұрын
Acrylic urethane's or polyurethane is my paint of choice. It is extremely tough, sprays on very smooth and it dries very quickly. They are very high quality 21st century technology paints. I have over 170 different toners that I use to custom mix and match my own colors. They are not cheap but you get what you pay for as they say.

TrekWorks Yeah! Thanks for the info! Ill be looking into that! Enamel served me well for many years but ever since Humbrol 22 changed about 10 years ago I have been struggling finding a good white paint... Best regards, Karel!

I guess I'm afraid of the electrical work. Afraid I'm gonna screw it all up.
@TrekWorks
@TrekWorks 10 жыл бұрын
Robert the electrical work can seem intimating I know. 3 years ago I knew nothing about it. I learned from watching videos and hunting around on the net to find info about LED's and resistors and such. After awhile it was like a light bulb went on and I got it. Take your time and practice on simple lighting and go from there. After that going more complex will come to you.
