LIGHT KIT UPDATE: Round 2 / Polar Lights have decided not to follow through with their light kit for now, but the kit is designed to accept custom lighting. They may decide to bring one to market at some point in the future.

I'm thinking the ship itself is the upper part, with the lower pod being an add on bit. Could be a sensor pod, a weapons platform, whatever the mission profile is at a given time. The low registry number indicates this is a very old class of starship, that's been refit beyond all recognition from her original appearance.

One of my dream kits. Was happy when it was produced in 1/1000 scale. Now, at 1/350, sure brings joy to my heart

Always liked the Grissom, kit looks fantastic and easy to add leds especially as there's no lights on the warp nacelles,only flashers.

I’ll be replacing the engines “grills” with clear, scratchbuild “shelves/grills”, interpolated with solid “slabs” in between. That way, I’d light it to make them “blue warp” glow. Just a touch of flair. The impulse crystal(s) seem to need replacement, they seem a tad “soft” in the details. Perhaps the “resin kings” would produce a nice, sharp details replacement. I’ve seen some artist depiction on the web with Aztec rendering on the Oberth. Might not be canon, but sure it would enhance its appearance. I’ll be sending a regular letter (snail mail) to the company producing this kit, as a way of thanks for making this kit a dream come true and to keep the Sci Fi hobby going.

I've heard it was bc the studio model had been so heavily modified they were unsure about some of the shape of the secondary hull and didn't want to guess using old pictures, pending more design. Supposedly. I thought that too tbh lol I thought for sure this one was the reliant when they announced a new 350 scale

This will be easy to equip with standard cell batteries and a USB C charging port. With that it can also be given to people lit up without the stand.

Great video as always Mario. It's bigger than I thought it would be. The Wiki says the saucer is 4 decks, but it also seems to include a deck plan for the bottom part too, but you are right there is no way in hell a turbolift shaft would fit in those support pylons lol. Oh well who cares, suspension of disbelief and all that.

There was a MSD for it shown recently that shows the lifts going through them. Maybe it had little coffin-sized lift cars? :P

May be I'm wrong but never heard of impulse crystals. There are the impulse engines that works with collected hidrogen from outside the ship and there is the warp engine wich use dilithium crystals to regulate the matter-antimatter reaction.

Since Kirk is on the box for the Enterprise refit & Khan is on the box for the U.S.S. Reliant, I think Spock would have been a better choice for the box corner. It is from the “Search for Spock” after all. 😉

In my opinion the Grissom is such an ugly ship design, and one that makes no sense in the framework of the fictional universe.
@uwekonnigsstaddt5242 жыл бұрын
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To me, IMHO, it is one of the coolest designs ever.
@occamsrayzor2 жыл бұрын
@@uwekonnigsstaddt524 In some ways I can see its attraction, but I just cannot bring myself to like it. To me it looks like it doesn't belong in the same universe as the Enterprise and its derivatives, but I'm aware that's just a personal quirk
@uwekonnigsstaddt5242 жыл бұрын
@@occamsrayzor It is an odd design. And that’s part of an enigmatic attraction I find in it. It has no discernible deflector, just like the Reliant. The engines/warp coils are different than the typical design we are used to. The sensor “canoe” is odd, yet kool, reminiscent of the EA-6B sensor on its vertical stabilizer. I have the miniature by Eaglemoss and the now defunct 1/1000 scale offering by Ugh! Models. I could go on, just can’t wait to have that kit on my hands. Another ship I’d like to see in 1/1000 scale is the Olympic Class (Pasteur). I need to send a letter to the styrene company thanking them for making it available. Happy modeling !!!
