The best receiver they sell in this price point is the yamaha TSR-700. It is the same as the V6a which is a $600 receiver. You can get it for $330-400 depending on sale and is superior to the ones you mentioned.

Hi Ealan, I am planning to get 85" QLED(2021 Q70A) and a matching sound bar to have home theatre setup in my lounge space. My lounge size is 12.5 foot depth, width is 10.5 foot and ceiling height is 7.9 foot. I wish to have 4 seats in a row. Mostly i watch regular TV shows, movies, and sports. I dont play games on this home theatre. Could you please advise on choosing between Home theatre soundbar samsung HW-Q900A and Q870A(2021). Both are in same price the range. HW-Q900A has 7.1.2 channel sound without rear speakers. HW-Q870A has 5.1.4 channel sound with wireless rear speakers. Could you please suggest me to choose the better soundbar from the above two and few tips on setup, considering my room space, TV size and seating capacity. Thanks in advance.
@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne 3 жыл бұрын
Go for the Q870A. Having those rear speakers makes a difference for a great surround experience. It’s better to have actual audio coming from speakers behind you, rather than relying on a soundbar bouncing audio off side walls to give the illusion of sound coming from behind. The rear speakers can either be directly to your sides and slightly above your listening position, or slightly behind and to the sides, pointing towards your listening position. That should get you the immersive experience you desire. 👍 That’s one gigantic TV! I’m jealous! Gonna be a fantastic setup when you get it all! 😀🙌

@@cgm246 I am. At one point, I was looking at going the soundbar route, and I'm so glad I didn't. For the price, these speakers and the receiver are great. My space is relatively small compared to some home theater setups, so I can't speak to filling a giant room with sound. But I'll say there's enough power to make my wife upstairs complain it's too loud at times. The clarity has been surprising as well, and that's comparing to a friend's setup of $7k+. The one area I haven't been able to test is the upward shooting Atmos speakers because my 2016 TV can't output Atmos sound. So I'll be testing that out next.

Pretty much the only difference is that the 12SWi is wireless, so if you need to place the subwoofer somewhat far away from your receiver, it makes it so much easier now not having to snake an RCA cable over potentially long distances. 👍

@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne 2 жыл бұрын
They pretty much equal, with their pluses and minuses. But I will say this - get the Yamaha if you also like to listen to music on your system. They have more (and easier to setup) options for wireless expansion if you like whole house music. If you’re mainly using it for TV/movie watching, go with Denon. Audyssey room calibration is superior to Yamaha’s YPAO calibration software. 🤘

@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! 😊 The Denon 3806 could work! The only caveat is that the Klipsch system technically has built in upward-firing speakers in the towers to bounce Dolby Atmos audio off your ceiling. But the 3806 is old enough to where it doesn’t support Dolby Atmos content. BUT…with that being said, speakers are still expensive, so even though you would need to leave the built in height speakers disconnected, it’s still a good bargain even if you’re using it as a solid 5.1 system (front left, center, front right, surround right, surround left, subwoofer). Make sense? 😎

My local Costco's did not have this stocked but I got it online for $799 ($100 off, sale ended 7/30). If I buy the Denon 7 channel AVR-S750H from Costco (for $400) it looks like I can do a 5.1.2 setup with this Klipsch set. If I want to add 2 additional surround speakers I'll need a 9.2 channel AVR which look to be much more expensive...and a lot of them don't even support eARC. Thanks for the compliments! Honestly, since you have ceiling speakers (either mounted or installed), they can be far away and still have an effect, just as long as you make them loud enough. Hello mate, actually am thinking to buy Samsung soundbar q950t but watching your KZbin video kind of gives me second thought about buying them in piece. Just want to know if the sound quality would be better than some expensive soundbars in the market.
@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne 3 жыл бұрын
That Samsung is def very highly rated. And I understand how soundbars are so popular right now with how easy they are to set up. But I’m pretty old school, so I prefer a solid receiver powering wired speakers over a soundbar any day. More effort to hook it all up, yes, but more reliable and powerful, in my opinion. I mean having that 12” Klipsch subwoofer alone is a reason to NOT go with a soundbar. But like I said, I understand the appeal of a soundbar, and depending on your home theater space, that Samsung might be perfect! But I have a large, open concept living room, so I just need more power to push the air out of my speakers quite a distance to my couches. Also, yes...I honestly think the sound quality would be better with the Klipsch floor speakers and bookshelf speakers. But lastly, depending on where you live, the Samsung might be more available and at an affordable price than the Klipsch setup. I know people in Europe have commented that Klipsch speakers are insanely expensive.

What are your thoughts on the Yamaha TSR-700 vs the Denon AVR-S750H that you mentioned? I heard that the Yamaha is normally a $600 receiver and supports 8K/4k120 for my xbox, but the denon appears to have a staggering 165W per channel as opposed to 100W in the Yamaha so I'm not sure. Ideally, I'd like to get the Denon AVR-X3700H you mentioned in your $3000 build, but the price is killing me since it's only offering two additional channels and the option to spend even more to add another two. I already have four extra R-41Ms laying around and have upgraded to two R-12SWs, so maybe I should just take the leap and buy that 3700H.

Just ordered the Atmos setup from Costco as I just couldn't pass it up for the price- thanks!! As far as a receiver- I passed on the Sony dh-790 and bought the Yamaha TSR-700 from Costco. It is the same receiver as the RX-V6A and is $200 cheaper. I needed a receiver that will do 3.2.2 and this is the only receiver I found that will do that for me to start until I figure how i'm going to place the rear surrounds. Am so undecided whether to go with a SvS ultra bookshelves or Klipsch home theater 5.1 system, Or a Sonos Arc, 2 Sonos Fives and a subs, Any recommendations?
@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne 3 жыл бұрын
Well, out of all you mentioned, Sonos Arc+2 Sonos Fives+Sub will be the easiest to hook up. SVS Ultra Series will be the best quality+best sound, although you’ll need an AVR to power it all, so that’s an extra expense. If you go the Sonos route, there’s really not much upgrade potential after that. But if you go with Klipsch 5.1 Theater Pack+AVR, that’s at least a baseline surround sound system that you can slowly build off of and upgrade as time goes on. Something else to think about. I personally go for good ol’ fashioned AVR+wired speakers because you get a bigger soundstage than a soundbar, and better reliability. Once it’s hooked up, it just works. Sonos has a tendency to disconnect and have issues to troubleshoot just because that’s the truth about all wireless systems. 👍 Hope that helps!

What’s your recommended connection to tv/between devices and what receiver do you recommend for my needs? Thanks a lot in advance

Hi! The Denon S750H, Sony DN1080, and Yamaha RX-V6A all have 7 channels and Apple AirPlay. 👍 As far as eARC, that only matters if you keep your AppleTV and PS5 connected to your TV and arc the audio back through the receiver. If you connect the AppleTV and PS5 directly into the receiver, then the receiver takes care of all the audio processing and you’ll have Atmos. Make sense? Lastly, the Yamaha RX-V6A is out of stock everywhere. But if you have a Costco membership, they sell the Yamaha under a different name: the TSR-700, but it’s exactly the same as the RX-V6A. Costco also sells the Denon S750H online. 🙌 Hope that helps!

Ah, gotcha! Well congrats! We just closed on a 20 acre piece of land earlier this week! So in a year or two we’ll be having a house built on it. And you KNOW I’ll be putting in plans for a dedicated theater room. 😄 So you have the Costco Klipsch theater pack, then? So that’s a 5.1.2 setup, okay. As far as your outdoor speakers, if you got a 9 channel receiver, it sure is convenient setting up a Zone 2 for the outside, that way you can control it all from one source. But from 7 to 9 channels is such a jump in price, it’s pretty stupid. But Onkyo is launching an updated 2021 line of receivers this summer (some come out this month!). The TX-NR7100 ($899) is 9 channel without pre-outs (so no option of external amps in the future), and the TX-RZ50 ($1,099) which will also be 9 channels, but have pre-outs for external amp usage and more power than the 7100. Both are slated to come out this month, although a lot of companies right now are having trouble with shipping, so fingers crossed that didn’t affect Onkyo. You might wanna check those out!

@thelonestranger777
@thelonestranger777 3 жыл бұрын
*This is gonna be a long post* There's really not much to setting up this type of system. Just make sure you're putting your speakers in the correct positions and the receiver takes care of the rest. The positions and angles are on dolbys website for speaker placement. Your center speaker must be the same distance away from you as your Left and Right speakers. Your surround left and surround right speaker must be 110 degrees to 120 degrees from your seating spot. NOT 90 degrees to your left and right as stated in this video. The only time it would be like that is if you had a 7 channel setup where you would put 2 speakers directly behind you. Other tips I would give for placement is to make sure your angle ALL your speakers TOWARDS your main listening position. Have the tweeters aimed at where your ears would be and that way you will get optimal results. A lot of people simply put the speakers facing straight and depending on how wide you spaced them apart will just fire sound away from you. Also crucial is to make sure your center speaker is firing directly at your ears too. That speaker is almost always placed below your TV or projector screen and sometimes isn't the same height as your ears. So what you can do is angle it upwards so that the tweeters are firing at your ears. I can't stress enough how important speaker positioning is. It doesn't matter how expensive your speakers are, if you position them wrong you'll be wasting their potential. You won't get a proper surround sound effect... People with much cheaper speakers will have a nicer sounding system compared to you(ask me how I know😕). One last tip on speaker positioning: try and mount your surround left/right speakers about 1-2 feet above the height of your head (I use the speaker mount listed in this video). I'd say in 9 out of 10 cases it will make your surround sound much more "spacious" and greatly increase the effect. The only thing that can be troublesome is hiding that speaker wire for the surround sound speakers for a nice clean setup. Once you have your speakers in the correct positions, just strip the ends of your speaker wire and put it in the terminals on the speaker and on the other end to your receiver. Everything is labeled on the receiver. Front left, front right, center, surround left, surround right, height 1 and height 2. After that, plug your devices into the correctly labeled hdmi ports. It doesn't matter which you plug it into but it makes more sense to plug the cable box into the cable box hdmi, streaming device into the streambox hdmi etc etc. Your TV will be plugged into the hdmi OUT port that's separated from the other HDMIs. Most receivers have two so make sure you plug it into the one labeled ARC. That's literally all there is too it. Now you can turn on your receiver and just follow the step by step instructions. It will ask you about your speaker configuration, in this case it would be a 5.1.2 setup. Then you will place the microphone at where you would be seated(AT EAR HEIGHT WHERE YOUR HEAD WOULD BE) and let it run the auto-calibration. Just don't make any noise during this step or it won't calibrate properly. ALWAYS run the calibration setup if you move ANY of your speakers/subwoofers. Doesn't matter if you change the angle slightly or move it 1 inch over, these WILL affect the sound. And you're done.

I read over what I wrote and I just wanted to add a few more things and suggestions. I know this is a lot of information but I'm just trying to pack in everything I learned into a YT comment so that you can save money and learn from my mistakes. There's tons of videos on this stuff and you'll learn little by little from each of them. For the subwoofer, you will need an rca cable to connect it, it does not use speaker wire. Simply plugs from your subwoofer LFE port into the receiver subwoofer port. Make sure your crossover knob is turned all the way to the right. This is all in the subwoofer manual btw. Now the following are MY suggestions after changing my sound system multiple times over the past 4 years. I wish I knew all of this beforehand rather than experimenting and upgrading throughout the years. Would've saved myself hundreds if not thousands of dollars over that 4 year span had I known what I know now. There's nothing wrong with upgrading but making smart upgrades are better. Get a 9 channel receiver rather than a 7 channel one. TRUST ME, having the extra 2 atmos speakers will add so much more dynamic sound to your setup. You will more accurately hear things flying over your head and it adds so much more immersion when watching movies. Even if you can't get the 2 other atmos speakers immediately, at least you'll have the ability to do so in the future. Klipsch atmos speakers are pretty expensive but there's tons of other companies that make atmos upfiring speakers as well. Usually you'd want to keep the brand the same so that it matches the sound of your setup but those asking prices are a bit ridiculous in my opinion. I'd rather get in ceiling speakers for that price. Secondly, get two subwoofers. I know most people think it will just make more noise and shake the house but that's not true if you set it up properly. It will add more output but that doesn't mean you need to crank the subwoofer volume high. Two subwoofers will just fill the room with more EVEN bass. The best result with proper subwoofer placement and subwoofer volume is that the viewer CAN'T tell where the subwoofers are placed/where the bass is coming from. The bass blends in with the speakers and sounds like it's coming through your speakers. If you can't get two subwoofers now, you can always add one in the future (hopefully sooner rather than later). On a side note, after the auto-calibration, your receiver will set your subwoofer level to a certain number. Its on a scale and it will be from - 15db to +15db. In most cases, it will set it to - 15 which is the lowest. This means your subwoofer volume is too loud and your receiver has to subtract from it. I would urge you to lower the subwoofer volume a little bit and running auto calibration again. Do this until your receiver places the volume at let's say 1 to 3 dB higher (so if the lowest is -15 dB you'd want it around -14 to - 12). This makes sure your bass isn't flooding the rest of your sound. From there you can always turn it up SLIGHTLY to your preference. Also make sure your turning the volume knob and not the crossover knob on your sub. Crossover knob should always be fully clockwise to 120hz or whatever the highest is on that subwoofer. When you're done auto calibration, check what your receiver set the crossover for your other speakers. 80hz is an amazing starting point and I'd recommend it for all your speakers including the tower ones. You CAN lower the tower crossover like 20hz but there's no need to have your speaker working hard to reach those low frequencies( bass). That's your subwoofers job. General rule of thumb though is to set the crossover 10-15 hz higher than the lowest your speaker can do. If your speakers frequency response is 60hz - 20000hz, then set the crossover to about 70hz -75hz. In most cases, 80hz is a great sweetspot. Last tip would be to get quality banana plugs for your speaker wire. I'm personally using Amazon basics ones but sewell makes really good ones for around the same price. It makes it easy to plug and unplug your speakers. Also always label your speaker wire at the ends with a sharpie or something. Like for front left, I'd put FL and center would be C. Makes life easier. As a bonus tip, before watching anything, make sure your receiver is outputting dolby atmos. It automatically does when whatever you're watching has atmos in it but there's a chance it can glitch or maybe you accidently pressed a button on the remote and changed it. The worst thing you can do is having a nice setup and you're only playing it in stereo mode 😂 The more experience you get with how surround and atmos sounds like, the quicker you'll be able to tell. I can always tell if dolby atmos or surround sound isn't enabled especially if I'm watching or playing a game directly from my computer. Windows is a bit finicky with atmos at times. If you got any questions, feel free to ask me. I really love a good sounding setup. Absolutely changes the way you watch movies/shows.

For the most part, yeah! Especially with Klipsch’s speakers having such high sensitivity ratings, they don’t need a lot of power to get loud. By the way I purchased the Klipsch ref pack and it comes with enough wire to wire up the whole 5.0.2, it had 95' of wire, two longer lengths I think 25'; each for the surrounds, then 5 15' lengths I think, all I know is I was able to wire up the towers, the atmos speakers, the center and two surrounds with what was included. I also purchased 2 extra sets of the R41-M surrounds for 89 a pair, these do not come with any wire so for now I am waiting for my speaker wire to arrive then I will wire those in as well. I am goign to replace all the wiring actually when my wire comes in so it is al the same, and add banana plugs to it as well, right angled for the speaker ends and straight for the avr end. Point is you do not need extra speaker wire to wire up the 5.0.2 Klipsch from Costco ref pack.

But after watching your video I just purchased a second one. Should they have different settings? Great video btw!
@ealanosborne
@ealanosborne 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks!!! And 2 subs should be as balanced as possible. So the same settings for both, but also less gain for each, compared to running just one. And try and keep their placement even as well...so if one is on one side of the room, try and place the other equidistant from your listening position on the other side of the room to help balance out the low frequencies filling your room. There’s honestly a whole science behind tuning subwoofers alone, so they can be tricky, since low frequency waves are so long and can cause some issues in smaller rooms. I just purchased a UMIK-1 calibration microphone since SO many comments from my SVS subwoofer review suggested I get one so I can more accurately fine tune my sub situation, given my living room is large and open. Pro tip to save an additional 50.00 on the Klipsch, call first ask them about stock on the R41-m's they will check stock for you, at my local store they said they had them in stock, but turns out they do not stock them, they had looked up the wrong speaker, Now I was goign to go to Costco anyway that day to buy the ref pack, But they didnt know that so I told them well that is disappointing as I came all the way down here because they said you had them in stock. As a result they offered me a 50.00 discount on the speakers I did buy, bringing the price down to 749.99 for the Ref pack. In the end I bought 11 speakers for under 999.99 less than 100 a speaker for Klipsch speakers, and not bookshelves. Very had to beat. Also I have noticed that in the boards Audiophiles Hate these ref pack speakers, they seem irritated even, many told me it is a rip off it isnt a great price because they run them at this price all year long, But that to me makes no sense, because you can also get these from Crutchfield or other retailers for 700 each, yet Costco for 750 for the whole set, I say it is a heck of a bargain. Seeing you cant go listen to other speakers anyway, why not start with these? I looked up the SVS alternatives to these R41-M's and they were nearly the same in everyway even the frequency response was similar. The difference was the price 89 a pair for the Klipsch R41-M's and the SVS are 135.00 each or 270 a pair, that is 3X as much as the Klipsch!!!
