The Denon 4700h gets you Auro 3D for a few hundred dollars more than the 3700h. If you care about Atmos then you would love Auro 3D. It has an excellent upmixer that actually utilizes the height speakers far more effectively and consistently than Atmos. Also allows for a far easier speaker setup where you use height speakers above your front and rear speakers. You don’t mount in ceiling and the enveloping sound effect is amazing and still works for Atmos as well.

@@coreyconway Greetings Mr. Conway. So, my friend is an audiophile and owns a Marantz. He has a professional recording studio and is extremely knowledgable in this area. He has had some issues with his Marantz and decided to go with Denon. Now we only had to decide which one to purchase. As you are probably aware, there are 3 tiers: 3700 ($1,300), 4700 ($1,800), & the 6700 ($2,600). The 3700 is 105W per channel for $1,300, The middle tier is $500 more ($1,800) and puts out 125w per channel. Then the tier 1… the 6700 ($2,600), puts out 140w per channel. It just doesn’t seem worth it (to me), to pay $800 more for 15 watts.The 4700 is an amazing deal. The 3700 & 4700 are both FUTURE PROOF. Denon is a smart decision. I don’t want to regret not going for the extra power for only $500 more. I purchased a BOSE Lifestyle system 10 years ago and I’m finally ready to move up. I own a home with a large room. I bought the Emotiva Basx A 300 for the R-625FA's you say they could handle 150W each. According to the klipsch spec.. it says 100W continuous 400W peak. Can you explain to a home theater nubie?
@Yiannis21123 жыл бұрын
The A300 is 150Wrms per channel into 8 Ohms. The R-625FAs are 100W continuous, also at 8Ohms and they can handle up to 400W peak. The fact that the A-300 can send 50W/channel more to the 625s than their continuous power rating, is a good thing. You always want your amplifier to be able to send more power (called headroom), to your speakers. Imagine it as a "pillow" of extra power, or like some extra horsepower from your car, in order to pass quickly that big truck in front of you. Also, the fact that the 625s can handle quick bursts of power, up to 400W (4xcontinuous), makes the A-300-R625 combo, a good matching (as the A-300 cannot reach that number, where things can become dangerous for the speakers, especially when the audio you're playing is intense and fast for long periods e.g rock, metal or 80 piece classical music, with intense and sudden passages, that last several seconds very often). Finally, the R625s have a high sensitivity (96dB), which makes them easy speakers, for an amplifier to "drive".
@williamthomas49123 жыл бұрын
YES! Thanks for the education. So as long as I dont crank the volume to 100% and walk away, I should be okay! I appreciate that you took the time to answer.
@Yiannis21123 жыл бұрын
@@williamthomas4912 Yes exactly. You surely got it. Don't turn the volume to max. However, you don't have to walk away. Depending on music or movie material, speaker damage can happen in a couple of seconds, even less. Other than that, you won't have to crank it that much up, anyway. Things are going to be already too loud and reach the max continuous handling of your speakers, before that 100% setting. The more poweful the amp, the sooner this will occur. For example, a 300W amp will reach the max continuous of those R625s, much sooner than the 150W A-300. Moreover, it's certain that you'll notice distortion (called clipping), when you reach dangerous loudness levels. Turn down volume asap. If you have the time, watch this quick video, from renowned CEO and engineer of PS Audio, Mr Paul McGowan. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpmbdKuKoJdlprs You can also google "Speaker power requirements - JBL Professional" and download that two page article, in pdf. Man, this video has caused an influx of questions about in-wall speakers. I am definitely going to write up a script and research more on the pros and cons. Short answer is, I have in-ceiling speakers that were already installed when we moved in. I prefer them - especially my wife - since I like a clean aesthetic. They’re not the most expensive or amazing, but since they just do the Atmos height audio (rain, atmospherics), they’re good enough for now. And they range from budget to insanely expensive. So the options are plentiful. 👍

@ealanosborne3 жыл бұрын
Great question! But unfortunately the TSR-700 can only handle processing 7 channels. I know on the back it has enough terminals to hook up 9 speakers, but it can’t process ALL of them, just either Surround Back OR Front Presence, not both. Just a software limitation on Yamaha’s part. Lame. So yes you would need a 9 channel amp to achieve 7.2.2. Onkyo is coming out with a new TX-RZ50 this month that I’m excited for. It’ll handle up to 7.2.4 with the help of an external amp. 👍

@ealanosborne3 жыл бұрын
The R-51s are little bigger, so that’s great! Use them for your surrounds (the speakers that go directly to the sides of your couch). And truth be told, I put a disclaimer in the video’s description that states I was wrong about the X3700H being able to handle 9 ear-level channels. It can’t. But you can still do a 7.2.4 setup with it. But just be aware that the extra 2 channel amp can only be assigned to power either the front left and right speakers, or the rear height channels. Something Denon purposely limits, so if you want 9 ear-level channels, you’ll have the get their more expensive receivers. Lame. 😄

So, by placing a home theater system in a great room, my wife would like to install in-ceiling speakers for a visible and cleaner look for our new home. Yes, I am placing (1) sub, maybe (2) if I can convince her. Would you have any suggestions with how to approach this? I’ve been looking at placing (2) Focal 300ICW8 in the rear, (2) 300ICLCR5 in the front and (1) 300IWLCR6 in the center. The way I see it, it a 0.2.5 system? Is that possible? Lol If you have any suggestions, that would be great or if you can do a video for this type of scenario, that would be awesome!
@ealanosborne3 жыл бұрын
Ha! My wife is the same way. We currently have in-ceiling speakers for my Atmos height channels since they were already installed when we moved into this house. Eventually I’ll replace my mounted satellite ear-level speakers with in-walls (again, my wife will be thrilled). What you’re describing would still be considered 5.2, you just happen to have the 5 main channels in the ceiling. That happens a lot these days with newly constructed housing developments - 3 in-ceiling speakers above the TV and 2 behind the couch for the surrounds. Is your wife opposed to having in-wall speakers closer to ear level? Or is it even possible with the layout of the living room? Maybe sometime in the future, you’d want to upgrade even more and ADD in-ceiling speakers to make a 5.2.2 or 5.2.4 Atmos system? A lot of in-wall and in-ceiling speakers have paintable grills, so they blend in with the wall, as long as you remember which color your walls are. 😀

First, your videos are so entertaining. I like watching your videos just for the punch lines in between. And, here’s my question: Are the costco klipsch speakers you keep mentioning in your videos good? Cause when I search for costco klipsch speakers reviews all I see is ‘no, they’re cheap. Don’t buy that shit. Klipsch makes cheap stuff’ I’m really confused. Can I confidently go ahead and buy that stuff? Please advise.
@ealanosborne3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliments, Pavan! My whole intent behind this channel was to present info that can be found on other channels, but delivered in a unique way, so I’m glad you see the difference. 😀👍 As far as Klipsch speakers, audio is subjective, so it’ll never sound the same to everyone. But I’m an audio engineer/musician, and audio and music has been a focal point of my entire life, so I’d like to think my ears are tuned in such a way to where I can discern between what sounds good, and what doesn’t. Klipsch is not top of the line. But I believe they’ve somehow perfected a formula of bringing products to the mass consumer market that may not have the best of the best components internally, yet turn out to be a quality product. I paid $350 for my Reference Theater Pack and it sounds great. Is it the greatest ever? No. But for a complete 5.1 system, most other companies charge around $1,000. I don’t know how Klipsch does it. And their speakers are so sensitive compared to the competition, so they don’t require as much power to be played at loud volumes. Meaning you DON’T need to spend a large sum of money on a receiver just to power them. You can get away with a more inexpensive receiver and still get away with quality sound out of the speakers. Would I rather have speakers that cost $1,000 each in my home theater system? Of course. Who wouldn’t? But I sure as hell don’t have that kind of money to spend. 😄

Im leaning towards 7.2 cause I don't think 2 upfiriring speakers will make that much of a difference. Great question! Although there’s no definitive answer, honestly. Just what you think is better. BUT...that being said, you might want to test out the “wall of sound” if at all possible. Instead of letting those Atmos speakers fire towards the ceiling, try and mount them above the TV in the corner where the wall and ceiling meet, pointing them towards the main listening position. It creates this sonic illusion that makes your TV seem gigantic! After testing that out, if you still think it’s “meh,” then yeah, go with 7.2. How do you set up the 7.2 channel receiver to process the correct additional channels for the 7.2.2 atmos set up when you use an external amp for the rear surround speakers? I have a question about how you would make this a X.X.4 set up. The Denon receiver is 9 powered channels, and has the pre-outs for 2 more channels - but do the Denons' pre-outs for channels 10 and 11 just send a duplicate signal (meaning from channel 1-9) from the preamp to an external amplifier for signal? Maybe I'm not understanding, but I ask because I don't know where the benefit would be in the case where you're not decoding atmos into any 11 channel form and just it duplicating 9 channel atmos. Any help would be appreciated!
@briantidey22253 жыл бұрын
He's not actually right here. The RCA outs will NOT give you 2 extra channels , this is only how you get the car to power two of the already 9.2 channels to give you more power, so this set up is still only 9.2 channels but now you've took pressure off if the avr and it's now only powering the fronts and maybe sides and atmos but not the rears. You can't make a AVR give you more channels than it was made to handle.
@joshuapisani18533 жыл бұрын
@@briantidey2225 Thank you for the response! This is what I imagined would be the case, but wanted to make sure. To clarify, does the AVR actually allow power to speakers in the same channels you also send signal out of the pre-outs? For instance, powering height-1 channels, but ALSO using those height-1 channel pre-outs to an external amp and just physically placing those additional speakers as rear atmos modules. If the receiver can feasibly do that, can we objectively find a difference between that and say, an 11.2 channel AVR? I know atmos has a bazillion unique audio cues, so I suppose I'm just trying to figure out where the law of diminishing returns comes into play with what you can actually hear.
@briantidey22253 жыл бұрын
@@joshuapisani1853 yes it does.. Although on further research a denon or marantz AVR that is a 9.2 recover BUT has the ability to upscale to 11.2 with use of external amps is true. Many AVRs have pre outs but they are only to power the existing channels available. For atmos I would not recommend using a pre out for those , I'm not sure the signal integrity would be kept.. As they are used for only object based sounds the ace is best used to decode and send the signed to those speakers. So if you were to buy the said capable denon or Marantz 9.2 ( with 11 channel processing ) then I would get a 3 channel power amp and run the fronts only on it. Could I feasibly use a stereo line output converter to get the signal from the front presence speakers to then run L/R signal to a audio source 100 amp ?
@ealanosborne3 жыл бұрын
No, unfortunately. The software that runs the TSR-700 can only handle processing up to 7 channels, even though it has the “front presence” as an option. For whatever reason, manufacturers decided 9 channel receivers would be the minimum number of channels that would start to have the option of pre-outs on some models. And even then, the Denon X3700H that I mention can a really only handle a 7.2.4 setup, not 9.2.2 like I originally thought, again due to the software limitations. Boo. They just want more money for more options/bells and whistles. Go figure. 😄

@@ealanosborne thanks for reply. I understand I can't add an additional channel because the receiver only has what it has. But i thought I could take the +/- left/right signal right off the av receiver , basically just running the stereo output converter ( which requires no power just a signal) to add 2 atmos speakers powered by the external amp. So in the end there will be four atmos speakers running off one signal . One set powered by the receiver one powered by the amp.. in reality I could just take the +/- signal from the receiver connect the converter and go right to the external amp and run four speakers from the external amp. It can work . The reason is simply to add more overhead sound. The only preouts that can be processed as part of your home theater system with the DN1080 are the 2 subwoofer outputs. @ealanosborne3 жыл бұрын
@@rudyvargas2846 Haha, no problem! It can get pretty intense with all the information, believe me! :) But yes, if you want to do the 5.0.2 Klipsch, that alone requires a 7 channel receiver since 5+2=7 (and the DN1080 is a 7 channel receiver). So if you want to add 2 more bookshelf speakers, you would need a 9 channel receiver since 5+2+2=9. Make sense? :)

What reciever do you recommend if I have four R-41m speakers, one R-52c center, and a klipsch Reference sub and plans to buy the bigger cousin that is sold at Costco for a killer price. That would be like 5.2 non dolby atmos upwards firing. With a 4k setup.

Denon s750H, Yamaha TSR-700, or Marantz NR1711, depending on your budget. 👍

@ealanosborne3 жыл бұрын
@@matthewb.1687 Ah...well unfortunately only 9 channel receivers (and up) have pre-outs to allow the use of an external amp. It’s just how manufacturers decided it would be, so they could get more of your money for those kinds of options.

Pretty great video. Marantz is currently closing out their SR-7013. I have found it is low as $1300 (I bought that one). Though Klipsch has discontinued the RP-280F, if you look hard, I just found a new pair for $850 with free shipping at an online seller working through that super large online retailer at the Klipsch Store. I found my new in the box Klipsh book shelf and center speakers from a local dealer going out of business on Craigslist for $250. Not only did I score the center speakers and book shelf speakers, but I also got four outdoor AW-650 speakers for my pool and patio area for an amazing $500. I can run the outside speakers through the extra zones offered by the Marantz. Just searching for the sub(s) now. Perhaps Costco. Thanks for the advice on the external amp...one more thing to consider. I am pretty new to this.

Thanks!!! At Costco right now, the R-12SW subwoofer is on sale thru 4/4/21 for a ridiculous $149.99. Maybe check that out! 🙌

@@ealanosborne I suppose if it isn't right I can return it! LOL I suspect my RP-280F will be pretty great on base anyway. Would you recommend an amp for the outdoor speakers?
@ealanosborne3 жыл бұрын
@@jamescurnutt1628 Honestly, no. If you’re satisfied with using the other zones of the Marantz for the outdoor speakers, by all means. Since those will be used for music (I assume), Marantz is most known for its musicality compared to other receivers. I’d use that musicality to power the AW-650s, for sure.
@jamescurnutt16283 жыл бұрын
@@ealanosborne Just to update: I spent Sunday unboxing the RP-280F's I bought and setting up my Marantz. The speakers came wrapped in an outer "Brown Paper bag" blank cardboard box. They looked totally generic. It was impossible to know exactly what was inside of them---I am guessing this is done for security reasons. When I peeled open the outside boxes, I was surprised to find The Klipsch Store on Amazon shipped me RP-8000's by mistake, not the RP-280F closeouts I bought. I didn't pay for the 8000's. LOL I did get two Costco subs. It looks like my extra 2 zones on the Marantz I need for the backyard pool area will need a secondary amp anyway. Zones 2 and 3 are pre-amped on the Marantz. I don't think the Marantz will drive the outdoor AW-650's on the second and third zones without an amp. Gotta say, I am pretty blown away by what I have so far. Crazy good. I am thinking that amp you recommend for the surrounds might be fine for the outdoor speakers.
@ealanosborne3 жыл бұрын
@@jamescurnutt1628 Booo! There’s always a catch with zone 2 and 3. Of course it’ll require another amp. Oh well. And yeah, the extra external amp doesn’t need to be anything too fancy to power outdoor speakers. And lucky YOU getting the RP-8000s! WHAAAAAT?! That’s absolutely incredible. 😄🎉🎈

Hi Ealan! New subscriber here! So I'm new to this home theater thing. So i bought the costco klipsh speakers. the one that has small speakers with sub. i also have a marantz 6015 and an old Klipsch Synergy Sub-10. so total 2 subs. can the avr power all speakers i have? How do i set it up?
@ealanosborne2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for subscribing!!! The Marantz 6015 can definitely power your speaker system. And much more! Since you seem to have a basic 5.1 system (and an additional subwoofer), have a look at this video I linked below. It’s a basic 5.1 configuration walkthrough. The only difference is you’ll just have to hook up two subwoofers instead of one. 😁🤘 kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5m0pGmHeZt5irM
