My cousin has this and says it is extremely painful. I have seen her ears completely closed at the opening from swelling. she hast to go to the hospital just to get relieved. She said once they pull the plug it’s instant relief. Great job Neel well done.
@HectorFabela-k6uАй бұрын
Seems like she could avoid it by regular appointments??
@KimberandDanАй бұрын
@ yes. Unfortunately, she does not have insurance. If you don’t have insurance here in the states you suffer. That’s just that. Unless you go to the hospital like she did and get a bill for no less than $5000 to remove one plug then she can’t afford to pay it. It’s just very sad and it is what it is here. But you are absolutely correct. Regular appointments would have helped her. She is suffering now, but she doesn’t have the money to get it done.
@KimberandDanАй бұрын
Seeing an ENT in the United States is like luxury specialty medical attention. If you have insurance, you can see an ENT if not, your only option is to go to the hospital and load up on hospital bills or just suffer. Thank God I have insurance, but some people do not. At one point the people that didn’t have insurance had to pay hefty fine, which was very sad because most likely people without insurance or people that are poor or who are in lower class and cannot afford it anyway. It is ridiculous. Our laws need to change.

@jasminecollins897Ай бұрын
@@pamelaayash9352 all the more reason that it SHOULDN'T be denied. Insurance exists so people can get the care they actually need, and insurance companies have no business deciding what medical care is and isn't appropriate or required.

As a nurse, one of the things I love the best about your videos is how seamlessly you blend the actual medical terms but explain them clearly. I think your videos should be integrated into curricula for healthcare students. To hear about the normal anatomy, and see the various pathologic conditions in real time makes so much more of an impression than a textbook ever could. Thanks from across the pond in Oregon.

I totally agree. I believe Neel is the best at wot he does. He wears many hats, he is an audiologist, he invents new tools, he developed the wax scope and he does do training courses. A very intelligent man. Best wishes to our cousins across the pond, from the UK. ❤

Thanks for pointing out why patients may "ignore" these conditions. I have many chronic illnesses myself and if you try to live with any sort of normalcy, chronic condition maintenance can slip farther and farther down the list of priorities, and you'd be surprised how much you're able to just put up with if your conditions worsen gradually. Thank you for being understanding, but also for doing the kindness of performing followup calls! These can be very helpful for conditions that may otherwise be undertreated due to business of patients or caregivers. My father is elderly with diabetes and Parkinsons, and I have to really bug him to let me trim his toenails, for example. He always apologizes for me "having" to do it, but I don't mind, and I'd rather I do it properly than have him get frustrated with a long nail catching on his sock and taking clippers to a place he can't reach or see well.

As always, your videos are great educational sessions about our ears and issues with this organ. Some call this condition of the ear, the disease of the tropics but based on what I have seen, it can happen to anyone, anywhere in the world. Luckily, My family and I are not suffering from KO, but my daughter and I have a mild form of Eczema and for a few years, my daughter was getting severe itching in her ears due to her Eczema and that caused recurring fungal infection in her ears. She is okay now but we are regularly keeping an eye on it and she makes sure not to scratch inside her ears and avoids water entering her ears. 🎉🎉

Hi Neil, I think you should do wot the dentists and your spectacles provider do and send out an annual reminder for a check up. I understand you are private and your patient would have to pay (the same ss the dentist) but I do believe you would get clients to return. You could provide a reduced payment for the check up and let people know in their reminder letter or text messages - the same as the nhs, podiatrists, dentists and the list goes on do. It seems to be the norm now that we receive text messages for appointments from all the nhs departments. But if they do require treatment naturally they would have to pay. I still haven't registered with an audiologist, I keep saying I will. But once I am registered, I would appreciate an annual reminder letter for a check up. Remember people "Our Health is our Wealth". Just a thought. Kindest Regards

@davidparry53102 ай бұрын
As I understand it, a canal cholesteatoma is more localised than keratosis obturans, and is not necessarily accompanied by ear pain as such (one of the diagnostic criteria for the latter complaint is acute earache). On the other hand, keratosis obturans, unlike a canal cholesteatoma, is not necessarily infectious, and doesn't release proteolytic enzymes (if I'm not mistaken).
