I retired at 57 (6 years ago) from a blue-collar driving job. Sometimes I have to pinch myself,...not quite sure that this dream I am living is real. I have not thought about work, going back to work,...or getting a part-time job ever. My last full day of work after 32 years in the federal government was Thursday 5/23. It is still hard to believe I FINALLY made it to retirement at age 56 but I know the reality will sink in soon. All so true! Let's be honest though. You are demonstrating more than just FI. Your ability to be present. To be grateful. To focus your thoughts around being with family and friends. To seek and appreciate the joy and glory of each day, each moment, and be open to opportunity and expect good. You have gifts that go way beyond just FI. These are things that others can find even while striving for FI. Some people may never reach FI, but they can have these other gifts too if only they can be enlightened. There were a lot of us 45/46 year olds at the Era’s Tour 😉, but we were in the seats vs. the floor. We went both nights, but the second night I took my daughter. It was EPIC. Concert of the century.

This is great but what most forget the obvious. Without work, grinding 50-70 hours weekly, year after year. Saving, investing there would be no FIRE. Freedom only comes after decades of working hard but you need to save!! If not there will he FIRE. It is what it is.

I love my job traveling the world. I am 62 and not ready to retire because I can travel the world as a flight attendant for a major USA airline. I am a minimalist and don't buy what I don't need. I spend money on my travel trips. My biggest expense is my studio rent. I have reduced my hours at work so I can travel the world and work on my Travel business. I will probably collect my SS when I am 65 and really reduce my hours working but still work for my health insurance and travel benefits. I'll be moving abroad in a couple of years to save more money on housing. Yes, I will be commuting from abroad.

Great video! I retired from the US military in 2021 at 41 years of age and I returned home to live in Jamaica. During my career, I made those sacrifices you mentioned and now I'm in the doube-comma club. I was shocked at how many people told me that "I would be bored in retirement". Huh??!! What!!!? As you said, how can you be bored when you have complete freedom to do whatever you want, spend time with family/friends you love, and live life on your terms?

only buying necesseties, cleaning supplies, housewares, food. been donating and get rid of all kind of stuff. got my youngest down to 14 summer outfits, socks, underwear, 2 summer pajamas, 1 gymshoes, 1 croc sandal because all these clothes, althougth they are cute ITS TOO MUCH! invest the rest of the income or take a short trip.

Even though we worked, my husband and I used financial freedom to free our mindset and do what we want without fear of losing our jobs. We never got fired for pushing the envelope. Neither did we care. We took off work a month every year for 10 years and mini vacations every month.
