I am relatively new to the game, less than three months played and a Sword and Board DK tank is my main. While I am new to ESO I have been tanking in MMO's for 20 years. My build is somewhat similar but I added two reduced Magicka cost enchantments to my rings so Cinder Storm costs NOTHING. I don't have any of the high end gear like Turning Tide or Yolnahkriin but I experimented with some sets that are easy to get in Dungeons. I paired the Hatchling Shell set and the Imperium Braids set. Hatchling shell has a 10+k damage shield that proc's every six seconds. The Imperium Braids set has a 10+k damage shield that Proc's every 12 seconds for you and allies within 8 meters. Throw in Spiked Bone Shield and Igneous Shield my tank has damage shields that can absorb 400k a minute in damage. Anything that gets past that still has to deal with my maximum physical and spell resistances of 50% and blocking if I am using it. Needless to say my Tank is almost impossible to kill and his health is seldom lower than 95%. Between Balance and Cinder Storm I have infinite Magicka and Stamina. I was thinking of pairing Spiked Bone Shield and Hardened Armor to create a reflective tank build that punishes mobs with a lot of reflective damage.

There is also an Overland set from High Isle area called "Steadfast Mettle" which reduces the cost of your core combat skills by 25% (ie. Block, Dodge, Sprint, Bash etc) when a food buff is on. So with the other block reduction traits, that can reduce your block cost to 50%, which is massive. So from a tank-function/sustain perspective, it may add up to a lot of saved cost. And it applies to any form, as in both your ice staff or sword/board blocking; and dodge rolls.

Definitely an option to use that, I avoid promoting gear sets like that because in the past it has inflated the market price which is the last thing I want for beginners 😅

I just wanna say something that I found out : When you apply chilled with a Frost Staff while you have the Serpents Disdain Set on the enemy gets minor Brittle for 20 seconds :D

@@TheTankClub As its live like this on console as well and normally when these secondary effects are mentioned they mostly have no duration because the Burn etc last 4 seconds anyway. Do you think this is a good set for a new Tank as it provides 10% C Damage with no downtime?

So i have a question: I am a PvP Healer and sometimes i am running an old PvE Tank for Dungeons and stuff So i don‘t need like the best Build ever but is this okay?: Engine Guardian Yolna Master Arms which heals on pierce Backbarset Jorvulds Because of PvP i have everything in Gold Traits on the Body sturdy Jewlery infused Magicka recovery x2 and Blockcost reduction x1 Race Nord Class DK

I don’t know why you would want to do that personally. You lose so much utility by doubling up on it and it’s all for no additional benefit since you only actually need 1-2 sword and board skills compared to using an ice staff where almost every skill has some use for a Tank

You still didn't answer my question and I haven't had time to test it with someone, do you get more reduced damage from more resistance or is the game lying when you go over 50% cause I had a lot more at one point and it felt like I was tankier. So maybe the armor is capped at 50% and 33k but your RESISTANCES aren't you just get diminishing returns which means it's not worth stacking 50k cause you barely get like 15% reduced damage or so.

I believe the cap on how much an attack will be reduced from your resistance stats is 50%. So an attack will only ever be reduced by 50% at most from resist. But your resistance above 33k can contribute to other things, like some skills/effects that scale off resistance for example. Usually not worth actively investing in, but it's not a complete waste. Tremorscale's Monster set enemy armour/resist reduction effect for example, can scale to 3-4k easily with a bit of extra armour stacking. The damage reduction from resist is calculated separately from other sources of damage reduction however. For example, in addition to the 50% from resist stat, you can then have Major/Minor Protection for another 15%, or from Pearlescent Ward up to 66%, or the Psijic channeling damage reduction Passive 30%, or the Sorc's 5%, or Serpent Coil's 40%. So you can get your final damage reduction much higher than 50% cumulatively from all the DR sources.

Going over 50% is only for PVP where people have massive penetration stats. One thing to think about is you can add damage reduction abilities in champion points that do stack on top of physical and spell resistances. I have CP abilities that give me a further 16% damage reduction on top of my max 50% physical and spell resistance.

Don't forget the fake tank build: Gear: Weapons: ICE STAFF!! both bars! make sure to take the tri-focus passive and heavy attack every other attack, (can't let the greedy tank have all the glory taunt that 99mil health sucker!) Armor: all light with ornate trait! (shine bright like a diamond leave and beautiful looking corpse) Attributes: 18k health or something I don't know deffo make sure it's below 35k to not sacrifice damage potential Passive abilities: standing in red damage pools Slotted Active Abilities: 1) remind people about your pars on training dummies 2) blame the other tank for losing aggros due to taunt immunity. 3) Only que for Vet DLC dungeons/trials
