Here's the maths: Texas Toast $2.99/17= $.17 per slice eggs $2.79/12 = $.23 per egg - (In my case, the eggs were 'free' since they were laid by my hens.) American cheese $4.28/16 = $.26 per slice ham $5.99/17=$.35 per slice (Enough to make 2 sandwiches.) ($.17x2) bread + $.23 egg + $.26 cheese + ($.35/2) ham = $1.00! Thank you Helix for sponsoring! I grew up in Oklahoma and (at least in my house) we never used Texas Toast for regular garlic toast. (If we wanted that, we bought a French loaf and cut it ourselves.) Texas Toast was reserved for this type of sandwich. We didn't always do an egg, but we did always use a rough & tumble 80s toaster oven that got the outsides extra crispy while the inside stayed soft. Great with all the typical savory sandwich fixings but I would also make PB&J or PB&B (banana) this way, with a divot in the bread to hold just a little extra filling in the middle and having gently pressed the crusts together to reduce leakage. 🥰
@wolfferoni5 ай бұрын
Instead of using a small bowl to make the indentation, I'd recommend using a spoon and making the indentation bigger. Closer to the edges and in more of a square shape with a border near the crust to hold it all in.

I'm gonna make this using Zero carb bread. I think the ham needs to be cut in one inch squares. Since there's no low carb version of TX toast I'll probably remove the center of the top slice so the egg can spread out thinner and cook a little more thoroughly. I might try cooking this in the air fryer. The crunch factor is fab.

Yes, I agree. I also wonder if it might not be an idea to separate the egg and add the yolk in later, somehow? I like a runny yolk, but not runny whites. Maybe placing a small metal cookie ring on top and the white part around it might work. And then in the oven for the first 5-10 minutes and then take out and remove the cookie ring and put on yolk and cheese around it. And then back in the oven.
