Dickerson was not one of the fasted running backs, but he was one of the "largest backs" with speed. Tony Dorsett was faster than Dickerson, so was Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson. Not a big deal, when you're running full out, and the running back is having to hold back a little for his blockers.

@sydboski4 жыл бұрын
@THE REAL L.C When deciding who is faster, the 40 is irrelevant. It does not measure top speed of the fastest players. All it measures is quickness and partial acceleration because they don't reach maximum velocity til about 50m out. They are still accelerating at the 40yd mark. So the 40 cannot possibly determine who is fastest when they aren't even running their fastest. Also those hand timed 40s below 4.2 are all fluff. No human can run a legit 4.08. Christian Coleman the 60m world record holder and the quickest starter in history, ran an NFL style 40 in 4.12 semi automatically timed. None of those 4.1 hand timed players could even be close to Coleman. 4.08 is humanly impossible. Hayes ran 10.06 on cinders. Green ran 10.08 on a newer all weather track and was out run on the field in pads by Rams Ron Brown 10.06, and Falcons Mike Haines 10.35. Since you CANNOT measure speed in pads to compare players not on the same field or from different eras, how can you make a statement like, "Green is the fastest in pads"? You are NOT talking facts. Facts are things PROVEN to be true. What you are talking is your opinion.
@sydboski4 жыл бұрын
@THE REAL L.C No. You look it up. You are the one who needs to show proof to back up your statements. I just gave you a logical explanation with proven facts why 4.08 is not possible. Yet you still seem to beleive Darrell Green a 10.08 100m sprinter can run a quicker 40yds than the 60m world record holder, the guy who has run the quickest first 30m in recorded history in 3.77, and who is the 6th fastest man in the history of planet Earth. The Punt Return TD vs. da Bears in the 3rd divisional round playoff meeting in 4 years between them. He also shut down track nemesis Willie Gault in the 1st half before getting injured after said punt return. 2. The shutdown of AC in the NFC chip and the "heads up" pass defense at the goal line on Darrin Nelson to seal the game. His continued excellence at the position and solid consistency there has a set a bar that may not be attained ever.

Not only ran down Dickerson but made him look slow. Walked down jery rice, Tony Dorset and many others! Such a great player and role model for kids. I started playing football because of Darrell Green and wanted to be just like him, I gave it my all and of course didn't have the success he did but there was days out on those football fields where I had 2 or 3 interceptions in a game and I sure felt like I was Darrell Green lol. He was always underrated and I don't understand why? He played for 2 decades and was still a very capable player when he retired. I was 5 when he was drafted and I didn't really start watching football til around 85-86 season so I was 7,8 and watching him immediately made me a fan of him and of Washington which I'm still a proud fan of til this day. Those was some great years for Washington and it's been a longtime since any real success but the franchise finally looks like it's on the upswing and maybe Washington will get back on top and be a proud organization it once was. Hey Darrell we need to pick up a cornerback this offseason are you interested? I bet he can still play and even if he's lost another step or two he'd still be faster than a lot of players. Hail to Washington and Hail to the all time greatest Washington cornerback ever #28 Darrell Green.

lloyd kline now that I think about it, not so easily. Bob Hayes may have the slight edge in straight line speed (Green could’ve easily been an Olympic medalist in the olympics do not fool yourself), but Green wasn’t just fast in a pure dash. He was fast running backwards, going lateral, easily changes directions without losing speed. I admit I never really watch bob Hayes film, but I think it would be much tougher for him to torch Darrell green. There was no one in that time that had half the speed that green had, let alone even be half the corner that he was.

That play when he runs down Dorsett is exactly how I feel about Sam Shields. I admire this guy. When I turned 50 I found out I could still run fast - you never lose your fast twitch muscles - they just breakdown a little more often. At the age of 59 I overtook the opposition's rugby winger so I could get a better photograph (I do the pictures for my team). The opposition said I should have been playing against them but I told them my age and said my body wouldn't survive the tackles. I'm sure Darrel could still run fast if he wanted to. Sprinter Kim Collins ran 9.93 at the age of 41. So what is age? Just a number. If you want to run fast - you can - at any age.

@AGW7337 the title of the segment isn't "world's fastest human"....did Hayes wear pads while running in the Olympics? No. So saying he was Olympic fast in pads while carrying a football is unfounded. Trust and understand Green wouldn't have only seen the back of him. At the very least, he would have caught Hayes at his side.

Darrell Green was winning fastest NFL player contests AFTER he retired and was like 44 years old. If you don't think he was fast, watch the Dorsett play. Tony Doresett had a THIRTY yard head start before Green began to pursue, and Green caught him before he scored. Search it and find out where Green was before he entered the picture. Or just watch Eric get caught

And Dorsett was coasting at the end because he never saw Green coming and thought he was home free. And then there was an angle. If you listen to the video, the guy stated that Green was voted #1 because he was so fast for so long. Remember to he broke the 100 yard dash record at the NFL's fastest man competition, but it didn't count because it was wind aided.
