Typical toxic Japanese corporate culture, dealing with what they felt was and treated like an overseas subsidiary. We saw something similar with Sega under Tom Kalinsky, how Sega Japan were jealous of Sega America's success. Nintendo probably didn't want them meeting or exceeding Nintendo's own internal teams success, and dealing with a repeat of what happened with Rare.
