@@nou8257 FYI you're probably eating up the syncros floating gears in cars and pickups. If the syncros are already worn out it doesn't matter but if they're still good it's almost impossible to tell if you are perfectly matching gears or just making the syncros work extra hard. This is coming from someone who floats gears in the big rigs, but I never do it in my pickup, except that one time when I was tired and forgot I wasn't driving my dump truck.

I have two 2017 Ram 3500 duallies with the Aisin. Love them. They’re both tradesman’s. They work and work and don’t give me problems. They’re the first platform I’ve owned that I don’t need to delete or tune for more power. They just already have it. One has 135,000 and one has 85,000 miles. Now if I have an emissions issue that may be another story but so far I’m completely happy with the H.O. 6.7 Cummins and Aisin combination.

I read in the TDR several years back the reason manual transmissions were not being offered was mainly due to that it is easier to get the engines to pass emissions. That's why the manual transmission trucks were de-rated in the later years. With an automatic it is easier for them to ensure the truck is operating in a correct rpm range for clean combustion and push the engine a little harder. With the stick shift since the ECU can't control the gearing anymore they can't ensure you will be in the optimum conditions for clean combustion so they have to de-rate the engines across the board so they can cover their bases.

The biggest reason the automakers went to automatic they found out that by spinning the engine faster you would keep the cylinder pressure higher and cylinder temperatures higher and there for have a cleaner burn lot less pollution. That's why they started putting higher output engines in with the automatic. Remember with a manual transmission you shifted when you wanted to. So if you like lugging your engine you could. Is all about controlling pollution not about what you want.

In 1988 I bought the first 1T with an Allison, and the 500 CI gas, great truck! I've had the Allison/GM auto's ever since. Aisin is owned by Toyota, and is the largest maker of HD RWD/4WD auto transmissions in the world, GM/Allison is second. All Toyota's use Aisin, and that says a lot. They are also used in RAM, Ford, Jeep, Nissan, (some)GM and a boat load of others. They do a better job changing ratio's than a manual gearbox, up and down, and just make sense to use. While all fine and good what happens when you're in BFE and the closest dealer is 500 miles away and parts are on national backorder? No thanks. The 4500 5500 rams shift way better than the 3500. I had a 2008 5500 ram and love the way the auto trans shifted. Drove a 3500 and hated the way it shifted.

The 03-04.5 cummins had different pistons that would handle more egt temps.

I think you're really going to like those 4500 and 5500s. My old man has a 21' 4500 single cab just like that one in an 84" CA and we absolutely love it. I'm getting ready to order a 22' 3500 cab chassis for myself. My dealer told me 8 weeks max on lead time from when I place the order. Dad had similar build time but truck had a recall as soon as it was delivered :( As for the manual debate, these new transmissions are solid enough to handle the use and abuse unlike the old ones. Now if it was offered as a 6 speed in the new trucks, I'd probably still get one just for the cool factor.

@@nou8257 If you get the sle or tradesman the 4500 reg cab 4x4 diesels c&c is a fair price .I will be ordering one next week for a dump truck.

@@andrewslagle1974 Ehh if i'm gonna buy new im going ford. dodge/ram does not have a good track record in the auto trans world and i did test drive them all not long ago and nothing compared to a f450 to me i like cummins but not the truck its in.

I never had a manual but my family do have a few broken manuals dodges in our property. I’m hoping to sell my F250 powerstroke and get a Cummins and Maybe get a cheap manual while at it.

Question..Are there any videos on how he got started doing this work? Or what got him into this industry? More than likely it came down to profits in the end. Most buyers chose an automatic period..Standard transmissions just didn’t sell as much so they probably focused more efforts on the autos. However I love my 2nd Gen NV5600.

I grew up diving both. Learned a manual on a 1962 Chevy truck, so I learned in a beast with no power steering. At 18 I got a 69 Camaro with a manual transmission and also no power steering. Ohhhh crap I loved that car! I had wanted a 60’s camaro honestly since I was 6 years old. I’m 47 now and I don’t tow anything so other than nostalgia reasons it really doesn’t bother me that they are gone. I really don’t miss using a clutch and changing gears 🤣. I like being a lazy driver now.

My 2012 Cummins manual transmission is king. I'm gonna drive it for 10 more years then maybe down size. I'll be retired by then....maybe

How is the derated cummins for the 5500 going to handle the amount of weight you pull? Unless you plan to tune it up to the 3500 Ho and Torque settings

After 12 to 13 years of driving CDL trucks with 8 to 18 speed I'm kind of sick of driving manual transmission it's nice some days just to put in D for day or R for race 🏁 off you go
