Really one awesome piece of history. Case in point I always say the 70s will never ever die. There is still trend after trend inspired by the golden years of this societal development era. I would say that in my limited memory that originally belonged to one of the presidents of Ford and I know it was sold to someone in NASCAR. I actually have a picture of it at Daytona speedway circa 1976 or77 I think. I attended both races with my grand parents at that time. I always thought that set up would be the permanent trend for large campers. Much better concept than 5th wheel trucks that often fail their uses.

Each & everyone of those old wore out rusty crusty dusty POS had a WAY sloppy shift linkage. These trucks shift linkage was a sight to behold. It went DOWN thru the floor then it turned RIGHT on to the RH frame rail. Then it turned RIGHT again & followed the framerail back to the trans then it made another RIGHT to the top of the trans. Every joint had wore out bushings. I was AMAZED the drivers were able to find a gear as I was not. One X one we had to tear those shift linkages apart & rebuild them. I didnt think we were EVER going to finish. But, one day we did. !

391 and an automatic transmission of some type with a 44,000 pound gvw ? That thing would do good to maintain 50 mph on a flat level road with no headwind. I have owned and driven many Ford trucks and the only 391 powered F 700 truck I had that would maintain 55 mph up and down hills and eventually reach 65 mph loaded (about 25k total weight) was a 68 F600 with a 391 gas engine and a Clark 5 speed and a 2 speed rear axle. That gave it 10 speeds including 2 that were over driven and to say it lacked power fully loaded is an understatement. I fail to see how that driveline combination would even maintain 50 mph pulling that giant trailer.
