Absolutely fantastic Lou. What a piece of craftsmanship and beauty from a period lost in time. It's great that Larry and Taylor have become so familiar and conversant about the details of this fine automobile. Do you know how much one of these would have sold for back in 1920? As always Lou, thanks for video and sharing with your viewers. Best to you and the family in 2022.

That's probably the rarest gem you ever featured Lou 🤔. And I looked up what those shocks cost in today's dollars: The 2.73% inflation rate means $1100 in 1919 is equivalent to $17672.99 today. That is actually pretty shocking 😁

This is super cool. My maternal grandfather was a Ford mechanic who made all his own tools. I never met him because he died when my mother was about twelve. In the basement of their family home, up until the late '60s, there was a front passenger fender for a Pierce Arrow. Grandma had no recollection why Grandpa had it, but it had been in the cellar since about 1921. haha. So up until today, I don't think I've ever seen more than the fender! Great looking car, and I love the pin-striping story. How funny. Thanks for sharing.

Hi, Lou! Seven feet tall. Yao Ming ought to feel quite comfortable sitting behind the wheel of this one! Don't know how big a deal 48 horsepower was a century ago, although that doesn't seem like much to move three tons of automobile (and the mother-in-law), and this was more of a slow-motion ride than we're used to seeing on this channel. Regardless, the looks were always distinguishable even in an era when all the cars seemed to look alike (to me). You could always tell a Pierce-Arrow by the wide headlamp placement. BTW, I visited the Pierce-Arrow Museum in Buffalo when my station wagon club held our convention there. You should go there if you ever get a chance, and be sure to try some original Buffalo wings at the Anchor Bar while you're in town! Many thanks to you and Larry and Jordan for this grand tour of an ultra-rare classic! AHOOOOOGA!

I'm pretty sure the car is capable of more than 35 - 40 mph. With only rear wheel brakes and 3 tons to stop, I wouldn't try driving it faster... but the car can go faster. Jay Leno's 1918 Pierce-Arrow Model 66 (similar size 6,000 lb monstrosity with an 825 cubic inch 6 cylinder) keeps up with freeway traffic at 70 mph. Packard's "Twin Six", powered by their 424 cubic inch V-12 of the same era (1915 to 1923) also had a 70 mph top speed... Anyway, thanks for sharing Lou & Mr. Reid! BEAUTIFUL motorcar!

Jay Leno has a Pierce Arrow model 61 ,I don't remember what year it was. The reason why these cars weigh 6000lb is because the body panels are cast alloy. Another trivia is the cars made by Pierce Arrow was made in Buffalo NY. Nice Automobiles and great video

What a sight to behold! This is definitely something that one doesn't see every day! A Pierce Arrow was one of the very first cars at the turn of the 20th century. It was made before chrome was invented, making the nickel plated fixtures shine in their own unique way. A head turner indeed!

I can understand why the mother-in-law was seated high on a 6.000 pound car without a roll bar. Only the passengers in the front had a chance of surviving a roll-over, through ducking towards the passenger compartment's floorboard. It's surprising that only 2 of these vehicles were sold for this very same reason. Wow! You could have bought an entire house in 1919, for the price of a complete set of those shock absorbers. Those headlight blinders were applied for driving on the right-hand side of the road. Given that the driver was to sit on the right, it seems that this vehicle was intended for sale in Great Britain or in Oceania

William Howard Taft brought the first cars to the White House. Congress gave him the money, and he bought two White Steamers and two Pierce-Arrrows. Pierce cars were in the White House fleet until they folded in the Great Depression. Monstrous machines!
