I want to thank you for these videos. I went to Jeff Wyler in Clarksville and your videos helped me see all the ripoff and shyster tactics they use. I wouldn't recommend that place to anyone. They have a Mercedes with major front end damage, but it's not shown in the photos. The grill, right headlight housing, bumper cover and I am sure everything underneath are damaged. It's pushed in far enough that it has to be badly damaged underneath.

I'm a little confused. At about 3:30 you say "don't fix" minor imperfections like buffing out a scratch, mend a cut in the leather seat, but then go on to discuss new tires. I get not buying new tires, but I thought it was a good thing to fix those minor imperfections so the dealer couldn't over-exaggerate it's cost to fix?

Take it to CarMax that simple. Following a buddy’s advice that sold cars for almost 20 years I recently sold my 2018 Dodge Journey to CarMax. Good condition, Toyota offered me $13k, CarMax initially offered me $14,500 I wait a few weeks until my new 4runner showed up at the dealer, took my Journey back to CarMax and they gave me $17k , $600 out of pocket after the $17k paid my car off. Now I’m rollin a 2021 Lunar Rock Toyota 4Runner TRD pro.

My son went and looked at a Kia Soul from 2018. The guy couldn't sell it because whoever owned it before was a major dope fiend. They had ozoned the car twice, shampooed the carpets and seat belts. Changed the cabin air filter. He said they were going to have to tear the heater core out because that pot smell was everywhere. What should have been a $13k vehicle was discounted to 9,500 but he is raising the price to cover the cost of doing the treatments. Car has been through the auction 3 times.

Back when i kept my cars for longer than a nano second; my trades were clean enough that I drove them into the used car showroom. A prospective buyer could call me and I would assure them there had been no smoking, no eating no pets and no kids in the car. My trades now are almost new and my dealer expects them to be front line ready. The deal is made over the phone before the dealer sees my car. If I don't meet expectations, I will hear about it. Just traded a 14 month old Acura RDX on a new one. Lease payment went down !.I was lucky that the dealer had exactly what my wife wanted. I have been messing with cars since the early 1960's, and it has always been amazing to me haw filthy some people allow their cars to get. They sit in it. The have no clue how much it costs them at trade in time. Buyers pay the Difference. The higher the trade in and/or the lower the new car price; the smaller the difference.

Great video, though there are things that I can not do. I am very DIY type person, I change all the fluids brake pads,, rotors and plugs at the proper intervals....I do this because why pay one of your shops 2-3x the cost of doing the things myself. Smoking also effects the electronics in the new vehicles, and I do detail my jeep every other month, it is 5 years old with 76k miles, been off roading with it and still looks new and clean. Very food point though you will get more out of the vehicle if you sell to a private party....if you have the time....again great points here

Yes, every car manufacturer is suffering from lack of computer chips and parts from China and Japan. COVID-19 is rampant among Chinese manufacturers and their workforces has been sliced in half causing massive delays in delivery of new parts. Several dealerships have almost nothing new on the lot to sell today and only get a few cars per week now.

What do dealerships do with trades that are useless. For example I have a 2007 Dodge Durango that I bought in 2008. I am the second owner of this critter and its been a great daily driver for me. Now 14 years and 220,000+ miles later I am ready for a new car. The Dodge runs great still, but has a lot of body rust. Chrysler did a terrible job with treating the seams on the doors and fenders, plus I live in Minnesota. Is it even worth talking trade or should I just take it to the junkyard after I get my new beast?

I have purchased numerous vehicles over my life and will share my knowledge with you. This works for me every time. 1. Clean your trade in before appraisal. Also have another dealership appraise it even though you have no intentions of buying there. This gives you an excellent idea of what you should expect. 2. Look up inventories online to find what you want. 3. Never ever show excitement towards a vehicle. Inside you know it's perfect and you absolutely want it. But that excitement will be used against you in negotiation. 4. If it's a no haggle dealership, don't waste your time. 5. Secure your financing on your own. You most likely will get a better rate. Do not tell them you have secured financing. 6. Never accept sticker price. I don't care what they say about inventory or chip shortages. 7.: You are going to walk away from the dealership even though you plan to buy that vehicle. For instance, car is 40,000. You give a ridiculous offer you know isn't happening. You say 33,000, they say 39,000. They might say 38,500. You say thank you for your time, but I have two other vehicles to look at and have my loan check in hand. Then you walk away and have lunch down the street. You will be getting a call within the hour. You say 38,000 tax, title, and everything else and I will be there to sign and give you a check. 8. Check all paperwork in the finance office. Don't fall for maintenance programs, gap insurance, etc. Remember, don't be rude. But you are the customer and they need you more than you need them. That salesman is looking for a commission check and the manager is looking to make sales.

probably not - i took my Kia to the local dealer for all maintenance - even oil changes - thinking that all that info would be in their database and would pay off if i ever traded the car in. well, i did end up buying a car from there and trading in my old car and showed them all the maintenance reports/receipts as well as pointed out they had them as well. every maintenance milestone met, every recall handled, etc. i was told they didn't care and weren't interested in looking at the reports - i got nothing for all that work. now, if you're going to sell your car independently, i think it would make a difference to a prospective buyer... ymmv

@@bitrunner2000 I had a car totaled that I had done the same thing on. State Farm offered me $1100. I sent them a copy of the entire file of the maintenance done as well as a series of several years of photos showing impeccable cleaning year in and year out. They sent a check the next week for $3300. BING!! it really paid off.

Unfortunately not everyone like reports to Carfax. I like to think of Carfax as a bulletproof system but not everything gets reported to them unfortunately. That's why I think it's still best to take your car to you are trusted mechanic. Research the vehicle if it has any recalls on it. Were subscribers to consumer reports and they give out a survey of good and bad things that's happened to vehicles. But that's what has worked for me.

Hey I have a question.like the sticker price.I’m still learning car stuff.if the car I want is 22000 on the sticker.is it that price or is there taxes add on? So like it would be 22000 plus 4000 on taxes so it’s 26000? Or sticker price is just that so I can calculate my term and monthly payments.also if sticker price can be lowered

MSRP is negotiable and doesn’t include taxes or fees. I ask for the dealer invoice so I can negotiate. Dealers also get a holdback from the manufacturers so don’t let hem tell you they won’t make money if they go too low. Don’t buy based on monthly payment. Don’t let the dealer focus on down payment or monthly payment during negotiations. Keep the focus on the vehicle price and trade amount. Also don’t bring up that you have a trade til after you’ve gotten the best price on the vehicle.

My car has damage right now because someone hit it while it was sitting in a parking lot and my dad says the trade in value will be higher if we get it fixed before looking for my next car. Is it worth spending money to fix damages? It’s a Buick Encore 2019 only has about 26,000 miles
@ChevyDude

I would first get an estimate on repair cost. then get the car appraised and when the appraisal is done as if what the value would be with the car fixed. Then make your decision. I have traded for many cars with damage and it was better to trade in damaged than to fix.. But, Every case is different. It's why you have to ask the above question.

No such thing as a Legit markup but if the buyer is a fool enough to pay markup then as far as im concerned i hope the dealer gets every penny they shouldnt ve getting,I wont pay msrp,well for a very select few cars i would,but other then that at the very least its invoice plus incentives, but a few %behind invoice plus incentives is even better.I understand right now that wont happen,but the simple solution is i wont buy at the moment,New and especially used ,when this bubble bursts alot of people are gonna feel the pain like never before
