I’m 43 and two months in and haven’t skated since 1996. I had some good abilities back then as young so I know how to do a lot but wow the fear of falling, hurt and work etc plays hugely and getting time to and social aspect as well. It’s tough at 43 but love the videos

Man, as an 'old skater' who just picked up the board again after 25 years+ away -- it's inspiring but also wild to see how quickly these skaters advanced their skills. Here I am just focusing on getting my body in a functional state to skate day-after-day. lol. Everything hurts - but I can't stop thinking about getting out there again. Also, good to see some of these skaters wear PADS...I wish I did in my teens...and now I feel it everywhere. PAD UP KIDS. That is all

Same here. Used to skateboard to work everyday and stuff in high school. 41 now with 16 year old kid that wants to learn. Mom, with no experience, was teaching him 😂 I got him an 8.0 Primitive. I got an 8.25 Zero, loyal since I was a kid. He loves it more now that I’m teaching him, him actually learning 😅 He enjoys being in the board and sharing it with me, cuz me and his mom split awhile back. Respect for sharing time and having fun with the same hobby with your kid 🙌

I've had my skateboard for about two years now, but I made the mistake of not really doing much research and trying to teach myself and ended up with a sprained ankle that I needed to do PT for before I could get back to skating and by the time I could, it was winter. Last summer, I went to the park a total of once. The thing is originally I mainly just wanted yo learn to cruise around so I have a cruiser and was more focused on that. Aside from spending about three hours learning how to go down the hill at the end of my street and stop comfortably at the bottom and those two trips to the park, I haven't really focused at all on actually skateboarding. Been getting a lot of skateboarding videos in my recommended and now I'm really inspired to start learning. I need to be careful with my ankle and my knees, but I at least want to get the basics down. Took my board to a nearby basketball court and started really trying to get the basics down. I can cruise well since that's most of what I've been doing, but I never really learned a lot of the other basics. I'm going through Braille's skateboarding bootcamp right now. This almost feels like day four of skateboarding even though cruising has given me a great base to start from. I'll start counting my progress from here. Wish me luck!

I was skating for like a year when I was 13 and could land an Ollie, even though it was always rocket, and a FS 180. I stopped at shuv it. For some reason it was way too hard. I couldn’t figure out how to drop it. I fell face first when I tried to drop or roll in to a ramp. Now almost 10 years later I tried again. Been skating for like 2 months now and had to learn pretty much everything except for riding the board again. However, I’ve been progressing way faster than I did as a kid as I have way more control oder my body and also awareness of what my body does than I did as a kid. It’s so much easier to analyse what you’re doing wrong and I realised that I don’t settle nowadays. I can Ollie quite high for my skill level but they’re still all rockets and my landing ain’t soft, which makes me want to perfect it and get solid fundamentals down first before I move onto anything else. Been trying to shuv it for two weeks now (I can only skate once a week next to uni and all my other stuff going on) and I almost landed it. Did my first drop in second try and am working on my first transition trick. I am saying this because so many people get discouraged to try hobbies, especially skating, when they’re (young) adults, thinking it’s too late or that they won’t progress like kids would. And personally for me, I find skating much easier now that I’m an adult. When I was a kid I didn’t have a teacher and as a girl, the teen boys at the park and school weren’t really nice to me. I didn’t have anyone that motivated me or encouraged me. Now that I’m an adult I don’t need that anymore as I can encourage myself. So if you think it’s too late, just pick the board up and get a skate buddy somewhere. It’s hella fun to learn together.

The guy at 25 gave me confidence and I'm starting at 23. My main goal is to learn tictac then ollie up or down a curb. I still need to apply a bit more of riding a skateboard, and also knowing how to fall safely. After learning the ollie we'll see if I want to learn other more since I'm not really a trickster, more of a cruiser person, that's why my main goal is to be able to ollie Edit: I also want to learn ollie on a ripstik/waveboard after. I know how to ride a waveboard very well and do some tricks on it, but I'm really scared of ollieing with it.

Lil Wayne got into skating in his late 20s. If one of the biggest rap stars on the world could get into the sport at that age without being self-conscious then any nobody like YOU doesn't have an excuse if they want to get started. I suck at skating, but have recently gotten into it again at age 22. For me, I just want a fun way to stay in shape. I dont care about how stupid I look, I just care about leveling up everyday. I don't like going to the gym and find the sport a good way to build muscle while also having fun, being creative, getting invovled in a community and culture, and adventuring. It's a very healthy activity to involve yourself in at any age. No geniune skater will judge you for your skill or lack thereof, they just care about you loving the sport and having the courageous spirit to try new things and level-up. That's what being a skater is all about.

holy sh*t, that boy didn't do an 1 year skate progression, he did an 1 year skate speedrun 😆 but for those who tends to get demotivated by watching people learn that unbeliavably fast: yeah, there are people that is just talented. but also consider this: most kids have enough free time to skate every single day, and if I'm not mistaken, although they are weaker, they recover a lot faster than adults. also, some kids just seem to not have any sense of self preservation whatsoever. the boy tried a tre flip on flatground, didn't land it, what he did next? HE TRIED IT OVER A F***ING LEDGE to get more airtime... and here I am, afraid of doing a bs shove it stationary on flatground because I feel like I'm jumping blind 😆 anyway, I'm not saying that to their discredit. this boy is unbeliavably talented AND dedicated. he'll easily become a pro if so he wishes. I'm just trying to point out that if you were in his place, maybe you wouldn't progress as fast as he did, but you probably would progress hella fast too. don't blame yourself for not being as talented as people on the internet. everyone has their own challenges and needs their time. respect and love yourself, and take all the time you need to learn it! because every trick you pull of is a challenge that only you can overcome, as, well... only you are you 😆
@Valscorn01 Жыл бұрын
There is a LOT of truth to this comment. Young children for example can learn multiple languages faster than adults. I think kids learn skateboarding faster too. There's also the fact that because they are smaller, their center of gravity is MUCH closer to the ground than an adult..... making it much easier to balance and land.
@gustavogoesgomes1863 Жыл бұрын
@@Valscorn01 and making it way safer. I was training railflips a month ago, landed primo, and got sent flying back. as I wasn't expecting such a fall from such a simple trick, combined with how inclined back I fell, I ended up landing with my arms extended and my right arm got F*ing obliterated. I ended up needing surgery. it was a surprisingly painless fracture, but I'm not leaving my room to practice any sport for at least next year lol

@parks4089 Жыл бұрын
May I ask why you quit
@Unlockingparadoxes Жыл бұрын
I've quit on and off since I was younger but when I quit for 7 years it was due to a traumatic brain injury that I had resulting from an intoxicated neighbor when I was young. I hit my head really hard because I fainted while running and I had 7 grand mal seizures in a row and I woke up out of a coma in the hospital and spent a few months in the hospital. So I was advised to not skateboard anymore and the whole thing shook me and made me have to find another passion... So I started doing Art to replace skateboarding
