I got a 2020 Niken that was the dealer show room model with all the factory add-on including the full exhaust system + RG protection bobbin engine guard and tail tidy, PUIG touring windshield. Have 3k km on the clock cost me about 16k aud. Love every moment on the Niken, just like you said, I probably keep it forever. We also have a local work shop in Sydney does the turbo Niken mod, you can find it on KZbin, I might get the kit in the future.

I've lusted after the Niken for years now. Good on ya for keeping the bike! Now, looking at what the dealer offered you for it you see that they make money on their sales.

It’s frustrating when the same dealer had one with more mileage for £7500 but they have wages to pay etc. and to be honest it’s made me make the right decision. Keeping it just makes sense

❤ your review of the Niken as if it was made for you. They are definitely head turners, never seen one on the roads where I live in 🏴. All bikes lose money when they leave the dealership, but I agree with you in that keeping hold of the Niken was the best deal you've made. I'm jealous 👍🧔🏴.

Great review. The bike certainly stimulates lots of curiosity. I was in Wigan Yamaha a couple of weeks ago and they had at least one new machine (couple of used machines too) in the showroom, so either Yamaha are forcing them to take Niken’s or there is enough margin to make it worthwhile. Gotta say though, your discount was hard to walk away from. Regards the trade in figure, trade ins are always bottom book, this bike is definitely hard to move and they need to hedge against the money being tied up until it’s sold. Those two used models in the showroom are testament. Stay safe. 👍

A great review, thanks mate, that is an unusual bike, and I can understand you liking it so much, for one thing it’s probably more stable in wet and wintery conditions, so less problems with using it all year around in all weathers. On your point about buying bikes from dealers and buying private, your right about Facebook marketplace and EBay etc, you have to be careful as they could be hiding potentially nasty situations like it could be stolen, still on finance, which is why you do your checks or just simply avoid. Buying from dealers is safer as they should have already done those checks and can usually offer a warranty and will check the bike over before you buy it and ride away, the downside can be they will ask more money for a bike. Finance is a lot easier to get nowdays and dealers encourage it, it makes the bike more affordable and the dealer can make a bit of money out of the finance, but there can be issues like “What if I get bored with the bike before I’ve paid the finance off?”, pros and cons to both methods of buying. I enjoyed the vid anyway mate, thanks.👍
@GillyBikes3 ай бұрын
Cheers mate. I would bet most swap the bike before the finance is paid off. The dealers make that really easy as well. You just get trapped in a constant loop of monthly payments though.
@KevinRodgersGB3 ай бұрын
Agree about the dealers trade in values. One thing to consider is the VAT they have to charge on their sales. It doesn't add up to half the value of the bike but it is a consideration.
@GillyBikes3 ай бұрын
On new bikes I’m sure that’s around the 20% mark. But they don’t pay it on the used bikes. As mine was a pre reg bike I’m not sure how that works. Technically a used bike as will Have a previous owner. ?

I reckon with these types of machines that are not big sellers & rare , you have to be prepared to take them on long term, unless you are prepared to take a big loss . It also helps if you service your own bikes & get hold of another used model cheap , as a source of spare parts . If you keep the bike over 10 years doing mega miles with just normal wear & tear parts needing replacing , you will get more than your moneys worth . I reckon you could possibly get more than 4 grand , if the person buying it was really into owing a Niken . I usually only use reputable dealers I know to purchase used or new bikes from ,as they have to check them for any finance still owing , & you get at least 3 months warranty on a used bike . Only once in my life I have bought a used motorcycle private , this was an almost brand new bike owned by friend who had a near miss & lost his nerve & gave up riding . I knew the full history of the bike & it was a Honda , a bargain & it never let me down once . I am like you like to ride in with one bike & out with another , even if I loose a bit ,by not selling my bikes private . I can’t be doing with the hassle or the tyre kickers & time wasters . 👍
@GillyBikes3 ай бұрын
That’s my plan with this one. I’ve never really got my hands dirty with a bike. So doing bits on this and servicing just makes sense. No point paying loads of money and having all the dealer stamps when it’s lost so much money.
@maskedavenger25783 ай бұрын
@@GillyBikes If there is some jobs , you’re not confident in doing on your bike , you can always do the basic stuff & put the bike in the dealers for the major stuff . I started off as a kid spanering push bikes & progressed to motorcycles out of necessity as I was on very low wages as an apprentice joiner over 50 years ago , Now I will confidently tackle any job on a motorcycle & other vehicles . Most of its basic common sense . When I buy a bike new or used , once I know it’s not a Friday afternoon lemon , I junk the guarantee or any warranties & service & repair the bike myself . I am not impressed with all these 2 - 4 year warranties as they usually tie the owner to dealer servicing & the extortionate rates they have to charge to pay for all the overheads involved in running a dealership .

I could not agree more with your comments regarding interest by others and how long you could ride for in a day. My machine had been a demonstrator with 700kms on the clock a couple of hundred were what I clocked with test rides. It has 106434kms now and has not failed on me out on the road. Your comment about the price you paid on the floor stock machine makes me think about now how much someone paid for the Niken GT that I could have chosen (but had deal sweetening on the machine I did get) after it had sat on the floor for another two years before that person bought it. Did that person get as good a deal as you? I'll never know unless I flute meeting him. For the record I have met two other Niken riders here in Oz and communicated with at least three others.

Re. Part exchange offer of £4000. This is the dealer saying that they don't want it back. In Scotland you would be lucky to find a dealer who would even make an offer. But money aside, well done Yamaha for swallowing the bravery/LSD tablets and giving the more left field of us something to consider. I'm ready to buy even at sixty-five because in fifty-five years on two wheels it appeals to the "weirdo" in me.
