Thanks for these videos Scott. I'm an intermediate rock climber and I just went through a bicep tenodesis a week ago to fix 6 months of shoulder pain (ended up being a severe bicep tendonitis case). Your logs have been informative and helpful towards my outlook and keeping me positive and learning to be paitent with my recovery knowing I'll get back to climbing for sure. Glad to hear you're recovering well and slowly getting back to what you love to do!

I am an athlete heading into a bicep tendonesis in two weeks. Thank you for what you said at 2:00. I’m terrified... but you’re right if I do anything at all I’m constantly trying to work around this injury. And I don’t want to live like this anymore. It’s nice to see you have strength again.

@@KungFuRandur Well I ended up needing rotator cuff repair too so the recovery has been very long. I’m still not back to “normal” yet. But after seeing the camera pictures from the surgery I know it was the right choice. I’ve not been dedicated to regaining any real strength back yet. But in terms of the repair it went well. Pain management was fine. PT isn’t fun but you can get through it. Good luck!

@@03SportyChick03 also, you should probably accept that it will never look totally the same. I'm a PT by vocation. The long head of your bicep goes into your shoulder joint and the tendon sort of 'pulleys' over the head of your humerus. That lift of the tendon creates a look of proximal bulk that you just can't really get once it's out of the shoulder joint. That said, a good surgeon can come damn close. I've had a buffoon do my first surgery and a competent surgeon do my second, so you can def tell a physical difference. I'm guessing you have a noticeable popeye deformity still?
@vincewarren1271
@vincewarren1271 5 жыл бұрын
1:43 that's what I've accepted as well. Gotta get it fixed. I made serious gains in the gym prior to the injury and since then, it's been 1.5 years and the gains I've made have been remarkably slower because of the comprises I've had to make. I still can only go about 70% on chest exercises as they hurt the most. Had I just got it fixed a year ago or so I'd probably be at 100% a long time ago. I just didn't want to be in a sling half the summer. Plus I've had so many other surgeries that already compromise me that I just told myself "no more surgeries." But I gotta get this done. It hurts to sleep on the shoulder. I had a labral repair back in 2005 too. Thanks for the videos.

Im probably the same age as you, and based on my recent diagnosis of SLAP tear. It's likely I have had the tear for my entire life, but it has just slowly gotten worse. @@jimsolmer1292 I just started to toss again. 45 feet very little effort. Haven’t swam yet but when it’s warm enough I expect to be able to. My active flexion is 175-180° (same as left healthy arm), external is about 125-130° close to the left, passive internal is 45° same as left. I was very careful with my bicep, not even really lifting a cup of water to drink for 8 weeks. After that, I did hours of stretching and at home pt a day. Still behind because of tenodesis. It sucks and throwing doesn’t feel anywhere near the same, but the workouts are fun since I’m just lifting twice a week with a pt now lol.

@@jonheber2474 takes about 5 months until you can lift. I'm 16 months out and still struggle a bit on chest day. Dumbell presses are tough. I hit a plateau at 8 months and got over it when the gyms closed down to covid. I'd say month 14 or 15 it got considerably better. In my opinion, it'll plateau if you don't take some sort of supplement to help the healing. Also, sit on a fitness ball daily and move your shoulders in circles to get a small pump in them to bring in fresh blood, oxygen, and nutrients. That's what's helped me the most. This is about a 2 year recovery in my opinion. I'm starting to question moving the tendon down like this. But it's getting better. Just very slowly.
