Most of the bronco stores sale adapters to bolt the 66 lights into the later grill. Not really an option for you since you painted already, but I cut the bracket off mine, flipped it. Drilled some new holes and welded it back on. Looks good. I want to start digging into my body to fix some rust and change from yellow to red, but scared of how long that would take it off the road.

Longer than you think! Because once you start down the restoration, there are many pitfalls and distractions.

My 76 with the original tailgate is exactly the same; have to pull the handle out then engage the locks.

Matt. Thanks for posting again. I am a 66 specialist. I have found some 66's have a earlier "eyebrow" grill and some have a later 67 grill that has changed in several ways. More often the grill gets changed to a later grill due to damage. I live in Medford, OR. Maybe I'll stop by toms new showroom and ask. They actually have a NEW Bronco body on display...completely rust free.

Oh, I know it’s a later grill. This had been in accident at some point. I really appreciate the offer though. I’m trying to figure out how to retro the early 66’ lights into a modern grill.

That looks awesome, nice work. I appreciate the comment about how difficult things are, because you do make it look easy.

On both my ‘65 F100 and my ‘70 U15 (the mechanisms are the same) it took some time (and a good lubing of ALL the ‘pivot points’) to get a nice smooth “ka-chunk” to latch smoothly. It involves adjusting the tailgate ‘square’ on the side rails (the body mounts) and then TEDIOUS minute adjustments to the latches and strikers on both sides to be “smooth”… Your mileage may vary!!!

Looks great, Matt! I have to do the same with my tailgate. I think it is just a Bronco quirk.

Pretty sure the rubber strip between the frame and the body is not glued to the cowl.
@MattsGarage10 ай бұрын
Just to make sure we’re talking about the same thing, there is the one that does inside the hinge (not glued) and the one that goes between the hinge and the cowl. I’m talking about the second one. It was stuck to the cowl when I disassembled it. Hopefully I should never see it again!

I have to pull the handle on my 72 to close the tailgate.

Looking great. My 72 tailgate handle has always required me to pull the handle to close. Trying to decide if I want to run those wiper motors or not. Also wonder if I would want to use rivets to screw wiper motors into or thread the metal like you did???

Thanks Shawn. Rivnuts would work. I would tap it first, then if it strips out you can rivnut later. It's always easier to make the hole bigger, but not the other way around!
