A video listing Vectrex games would be great. A friend had this rare system in that era.. It was something pretty cool indeed.

Vectrex is a dream that the Brazilians never had the chance to know or to dream about at the time. I believe that there are collectors here that have it nowadays, quite possibly as a souvenir. But... Vectrex is still an admiring thing for me, a person who admires the art of CGI and the artistry of 8/16bit systems.

We had the Vectrex in stores over here in europe. I like it more than back in the day. The first problem I had with it as a child was the lack of colors, the second one, the demonstration machines controllers always were broken. I love this system nowadays though given how much of a technical marvel it was at its time.

If you don't think the Vectrex is cool as f**k there's something wrong with you!

This reminds me, I really need to get my Vectrex recapped as the screen has gone really faint.

That might be more due to a tired tube rather than the caps.

The Apple II, TRS-80 CoCo, Atari 5200, and later the IBM PC all used analog sticks. Some of them preceded the Vectrex.

Yep, but it was the implementation that made the Vectrex special in this regard.

They should make a flashback system of this with the games programmed into it.

Common misconception, but the Vectrex actually didn't have a vector monitor. It had an off the self Samsung B&W TV monitor. The Vectrex itself can produce raster graphics, and some homebrew games have demonstrated this, although I think they look terrible.

I want to make a proper Vectrex sequel system. With color, better sound, more memory and processing power, and of course… backwards compatibility. But it’s such a difficult task because of needing to make a color vector monitor.

Difficult? Impossible!

there are options like the PiTrex which tick at least some of those boxes

What is it about vectors that make the games look so modern and fresh?

$39.99! They were giving it away!

The Interton VC4000 had already used Analog Controllers in the year 1978. And the Atari 5200 used a sort of in 1982. So the N64 controllers weren't innovative anytime , but way more successful as Interton, Atari and Vectrex altogether.

Yep, I mentioned that in another video. But the fact the Vectrex has a thumbstick makes it even closer.

@@TheLairdsLair Ok, you are right! I only have looked at the technology.

I'd say the N64 was pretty innovative. The others were more like joysticks, and most games didn't really utilize the analog aspect. Games for N64 were dependent on the analog controller. Games using analog controls today were likely not influenced by the Interton VC4000, Atari 5200, or Vectrex, as cool as they are. Plus, the controller layout is much closer to a modern controller, even if it is a bit wonky.
