Nice to see Giant Silva mentioned. He lives in my old neighborhood in Newark, NJ and is considered a kind of hometown hero. He and the rest of The Oddities did wrestle Kaientai at Summerslam '98, which me and my friends appreciated, being able to see him in action. I also remember a few years after he left the WWE, Silva was ordering food at a counter in a café and I was standing next to him. This kid comes up to him and asks "Excuse sir, didn't you used to be a wrestler?" Silva said that he was and I added that "He was Giant Silva from The Oddities." to which he smiled.

I met Sid Haig at a fan convention in my hometown in 2015. He, of course, is best known as the star of Rob Zombie's THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, but I do not care for horror movies and had not seen it. I had, however, been a massive fan of Batman since the Tim Burton film was released in 1989, and over the decades I had tried to immerse myself in EVERYTHING Batman. So I recognized Haig as the second-in-command of King Tut's gang in the 1960s TV episode "The Spell of Tut." (Yes, Haig really was that old.) I mentioned that episode and Haig's reply was, basically, "Yes, that was me." I think he was surprised I remembered. Frankly, given his age, I was a little surprised HE remembered. My point is, I think these "B" celebrities really appreciate the knowledge that they've captured the imaginations of more than a few people out there. But they're still semi-obscure, so it's easy for them to "disappear." At that same fan convention I met the exotic-looking Italian-American/Puerto Rican actress Marilyn Ghigliotti, and my reaction was basically "Whoa, you're a babe, but where would I know you from?" She explained that she'd been in Kevin Smith's CLERKS. And I said, "Wait - were you the girl who sucked 37 dicks?" And she laughed and said yes.

@johnpenguinthe3rd13 26 күн бұрын
Honestly, yes. The two best wrestlers who were in that WWE (WWF) lightheavyweight division during 1997 (which 99% of people forget were in it) that stand out the most to me was Tajiri and Super Crazy. Both of them went on to gain huge amounts of fame in ECW soon after, in matches between each other but during 1997 Tajiri and Super Crazy were in that WWF lightheavyweight division. Most people don't know or have just forgotten, but for a good reason. Tajiri looked younger (no facial hair and no long pants, he had on short blue trunks in the 1997 WWF lightheavyweight matches I saw him in). Super Crazy had on some weird elaborate looking Lucha Libre gear while in the 1997 lightheavyweight division and he was a bit on the green side (got nervous and botched a significant amount in one of his matches), definitely not as refined as he was a year or two later in ECW (same goes for Tajiri). They never won the WWF lightheavyweight championship during 1997, however the matches Tajiri and Super Crazy had with each other in ECW were AMAZING (some of them are some of the best I have ever. So it's a little weird to remember they were in the 1997 WWF lightheavyweight division. At least most people remember their later WWF / WWE runs from the 2000's).
@American-Zero
@American-Zero 26 күн бұрын
The Light Heavyweight Division...man that was a waste. This was Vince's piss poor attempt to copy WCW's Cruiserweight Division. Only problem is Bischoff signed every lucha from Mexico to Japan which left little for him. Scott Putski was supposed to be the Light Heavyweight Champion..but he injured his knee in a match with Brian Christopher. The division just revolved around Brian Christopher and Taka Michonoku (who was supposed to be their Rey Mysterio) You can see the difference between WCW's cruiserweights and WWF's light heavyweights. WCW had an international flavor of cruisers from all around the world..while WWF just had Taka, Christopher and a bunch of journeyman nobodies from Lawler's USWA federation. The belt lost all meaning when they put it around Gillberg...a WCW parody.
@ofs82
@ofs82 25 күн бұрын
@@johnpenguinthe3rd13 Tajiri would keep the clean shaven, blue and white trunks look for a significant portion of his ECW run too, it was only late '99 that he got the look updated into what we know him best for now. In '97 Super Crazy had only just been unmasked in Mexico and wasn't used to wrestling unmasked that well yet, which might explain some of the nerves and mistakes as well. The elaborate gear was because he was still wearing the stuff he'd worn as Histeria in Mexico, just without the mask. He had the same gear at the time as El Mosco de la Merced, who would later show up in ECW. There was an old bootleg video in the tape trading days of ECW's equivalent of the cruiserweight division at the time across '98-'99, when they had Crazy, Tajiri, Little Guido, El Mosco, Antifaz del Norte and Pablo Márquez on the books, as well as getting TAKA Michinoku and Papi Chulo (Essa Rios) loaned over from WWF.
