I've got a buddy whos been trucking for 7 years and his main advice is to stay away from the mega carriers. The smaller companies tend to appreciate their drivers more and treat them better. He's been working for a company called Prima Express for the last 2 years and has no intentions of leaving any time soon - might be useful for some of you out there!

I would definitely have to agree with your Buddy, I've come to realize that too over the years! Bigger isn't always better, they seem to take us for granted after they've told us what we want to hear that is! They haven't ever walked the walk, so to say, at least the ones I've worked for anyways! Be safe Brother!

I planned on only staying for one year then moving on, but my fm was awesome and whenever i went to our terminals in joplin or Des moinse I was known as Adam, never a truck #. So for flatbed I’m looking at Prime, Inc., Maverick Transportation, and Melton Truck Lines. Having said that, would you say Prime, Inc., is a better company to drive for, or the others I mentioned? And would you say working for the company for at least two to three years would look better on your resume if in fact I would choose to drive for ATS down the line? Any advice would go a long way for me because I have my CDL A but I don’t have experience. Thank you!

This is a great question and it is good to see you doing research before jumping in. All of the companies listed have advantages and disadvantages. I can only say that the driver coming from Prime seem to do very well here at ATS for a long period of time. We have many resources on our learning center including the 7 best trucking companies to get your CDL with. We only require 6 months OTR experience to get on board with ATS but if you are looking to build a long term resume’, spend 1 year with any company you go to. "best" companies lmao. What did you search 10 biggest trucking companies and then claimed them to be the best? There are so many more small companies that pay better and have better hometime. 80k annually to drive local and have 0 stress vs. going to new locations every day with these big fleets. After 10 years of driving truck, I've learned that smaller mom-and-pop companies are where you want to be. The only benefit in my eyes to working for a big company would be, top-notch equipment, Mostly because they are leased

Pro tip: if you want a good job driving a truck, don't drive for a trucking company. Either drive for a company with their own fleet - like Walmart - or at least a logistics provider with a solid, long-term contract with a solid customer. Look for a company where drivers are looked at as assets, not where payroll is an expense that needs to be minimized. Look for a company that provides benefits that indicate they want you to stick around for the long haul and allow you to build a future. Any company that acts like it has fulfilled their obligation to you with a weekly paycheck is not that company.

Schneider is not military friendly. They discriminated against me when I tried to work for them because of my disability. I've been trucking with other companies for the last 4 years, I came to their training facility with a 2-year medical card, they voided the medical card when I disclosed my disabilities to them. Then they asked for all of my medical records which I tried to provide and they claimed it wasn't enough. So they did not issue me a new medical card via the facility they have attached to the training place in Green Bay. And they claim that my previous two-year medical card was voided because I had spoken with their physicians on site. So basically they found a legal way to discriminate against me because I got a head injury in Afghanistan.

First off, this is your opinion these are not facts. Secondly, if u use inward facing cams your already off the list. U cannot be considered a good company if your monitoring your drivers with an inward facing cam and anybody who thinks otherwise is a sucker. Trucking Companies loveeeee yes men and suckers. Which I find funny because its my Understanding Anderson Trucking (which i believe is your company) uses inward facing cams🤔🤣.. along with a few other companies u mentioned. Lastly, u only listed big companies that are known. No small companies. That just tells me u really didn't do your research. U just based it off companies that are known in the industry. Dig in do a little more research. Better yet, just do what u suit and tie guys do best.. making your company more profitable at the expense of the driver. Lol

Thanks for your opinion, Michelangelo! Anderson Trucking Service does not, in fact, use inward facing cameras.
