One interesting fact about the Ghost Army is that fictional divisions were created on paper and even appeared on tables of organization. Soldiers were given insignia from these ghost divisions and sent to British towns for "R&R" where they would be seen by spies and notes made of their unit insignias. It's not known how many shoulder patches were made for these non-existent divisions, but a few still exist today and are highly sought by collectors.

The individual used for operation mincemeat was a Welsh homeless man who committed named Glyndwr Michael. They gave him the name Major Williams Martin. May his service never be forgotten.

The cocktail: a combination of a flash, smoke then frag grenade. Keeps everyone in the room and prevents them from locating the explosive(s) before it's too late. I've also heard of tank commanders simply putting the muzzle of the main cannon into a room through a window and firing destroying everything in the room with the blast.

Okay, #1 and #2 are great. There's an interesting counterpart to the Persian conquest by cats with a Muslim battle that was decided by troops who put the Koran on their lances, leading to a peace conference that didn't work out too well for Caliph Ali.

I remember watching about that Periscope tactic back in the 90s. Several servicemen serve back in World War 1 describe the tactics they were used and I thought that stuff was wild, crazy and stupid

4:00 Yes! C was pronounced K. The German word "Kaiser", the Dutch word "keizer" and the Russian word "czar" are derived from it.

How about the ancient general who defended a city by playing music? This absolutely genius Asian general was visiting a city with a very small detachment of his army when he got word of a large enemy army advancing towards him. His solution was to have all of his men hide, open the city gates, then sit near them calmly playing music for himself. The enemy general arrived, looked around, saw no army, just this legendary general lounging around playing music next to the *open gates* , decided it had to be some sort of trap, and left.

New Vegas taught me how to pronounce Caesar. It makes sense if you think about it as someone with a cause or a leader of a cause, therefore caesar. This is almost certanly not what the word means, but its something that i came up with for myself

A Polikarpov biplane (as mentioned) has been credited with bringing down a jet fighter during the Korean War. The biplanes had attacked a US scouting outpost and the jets responded to the call; the jet shot down the bipane but, as the speed necessary to match its speed was below to stall speed of the jet, the jet crashed into the sea

The Ghost Army was so successful, it remained top secret for decades because the U.S. worried that the Soviets might used the same thing against them. I first learned of them doing research into the Battle of Metz. As General Patton realized he had spread his troops too thin during his pincer maneuver, he deployed the Ghost Army to fill in the weak points. That's when I saw that one member was fashion designer Bill Blass. I had a pair of his jeans as a teen, hand-me-downs that had the "L" worn off, so the back pocket said "BILL B ASS." For that alone, they were my favorite pair, my "B (an') ASS" jeans.
