Omg thank you…. I put a dot in my mom’s assisted living apartment. It has helped me communicate with her as she can not remember how to use a phone. Now I see I can really expand on what I’m doing with this. Happy New Year!

I think the Alexa 10 would be really good for you and your mom! It has a big screen that actually moves to the person and follows them (uses electric motor), you can also move it where you want to see via app. So basically you can check on her to make sure she is OK and then can video call if you wanted as well. I very highly doubt she would care about the speakers- but you would (I'm sure) like the speaker quality for listening to music. You can also play movies etc. Via apps like Netflix/KZbin for your mom from your alexa app (she wouldn't have to touch or do anything with it besides watch). When I read your comment I started to get teary-eyed-I assume she has dementia... such a hard thing to deal with and I'm sorry to hear that. I dread the day my parents get that age. The most handy thing I've discovered with Alexa is that I can say "Alexa, shut up" instead of "Alexa, stop". It's much more satisfying.

It's a shame so many of these features are not available to me here in Canada. I bought into this ecosystem specifically for the security cam live view and Alexa Guard. They don't work.

I have an Echo 10, I think I plugged it in but the screen only displays echo. No response. What do I do to boot it up. I only have the plug attached. On the back are two ports for lock and network. Do I need another cord. I am at a loss

Thank you for making this! I admit I was feeling confident I was at least aware of all feature if not actually using them. But I never heard of talk speed change, that’s going to be great for me, I feel like I get impatient when Echo talks for mor than 5 seconds. Going to start with level 2 speed increase.

Hiya, hope you can answer this, I have 3 Alexa’s my wife has 2. We will put the echo studio in the living room and I want us both to be able to play our OWN playlists on that device. Lots of info on the web that hasn’t yet worked. My understanding is that I have 2 accounts linked (hers and mine) but this doesn’t work …as after I have added her account onto mine when I ask my echo to “switch accounts” it tells me that there isn’t another ! Is this the correct way to do this ? Remembering that my wife will of course sign out of my account on her phone as she will want to be in her account for her own echo’s. Many thanks.

Hmmm...you just gave me a troubleshooting idea. Miss Alexa has been kind of confused for awhile now. The most disturbing thing are the lights flashing off and on at the same time every night. I forgot that Guard will do that. It is shut off when I get home - you know if it isn't. There are no routines or IFTTT set up. Something has probably gone haywire. My basement is super creepy at night (100+ year old house) and with the flashing lights, it's like an amusement park haunted house. All the Dots are getting a factory reset tonight. Hopefully that fixes it. If not, time to call support. Thanks. You actually helped me figure it out.

Hm. I have an Echo SHow 5, and have enabled the camera on the Echo Show as instructed, however in my app, for the Echo Show I only have Volume, Drop in and Off...There is no Camera option.

Thanks for the great video. Can you help please. My device has stopped offering me stories. When I say"Alexa, tell me a story" it used to say "I can tell you a strory or you can hear a free short story from Audible. You can say your story or Audible story". It doesn't say that anymore and just goes into Audible. Seemingly I've said Audible story 3 times in a row! Can you tell me the command to get the choice back please. Thank you.

The Echo Show 5 is worthless as a security cam, as it's design causes the camera to point upward too much, making only the ceiling and upper portion of close-by doorways visible.

There are adjustable stands available. Check on eBay and Amazon. Just thought I'd let you know, it may help resolve the issue, and definitely cheaper than another camera.

I’ve had a Dot for the last three months and I’m considering switching it off. Perfectly useless for the the things that really matter in life. Couldn’t care less for 99% of the ‘services’ it offers. You need it to be able to call an ambulance if you fall. You need it to connect to a mobile or landline if you have an emergency of some kind and can’t reach a phone.

It is handy having it connected to a phone... I can phone using mine without having my phone nearby. If I fell in the bathroom, I just would say "Computer, call Ambulance'... (depends what you have listed it under) Why can't you connect it to your phone?

hi both my friend and my mom have an echo, if my friend is home and i drop in on him its fine but if he is at my moms and i drop in his device it goes through to my moms echo instead, i assume this is because he has his phone with him and its dropping in on the nearest registered alexa to him, can i prevent the rediect or is it normal

Feature #1 Correction: You actually CAN save the video from your Echo live view camera...........Both IOS and Android phones allow you to RECORD your screen. example IOS, from top right corner swipe towards bottom left corner.....(1 time setup, must have screen recording selected, just goto: settings -> control center -> select screen recording).

what really annoys me is whenever you wake an echo show device (or spot) there is no way to turn the display back off without having another non screen echo unit nearby so now if for example i've lit up my show 5 next to my pc and ask it to show the kitchen camera (which is directed to just show the lights in case someone forgot to turn them off) occasionally it just hears "kitchen" and wakes up the show 8 to show its camera feed, then of course when i cancel that it leaves the show 8 display on (using more power) so i have to drop in on the echo dot in the same room just to issue the command "echo, display off", pity it doesn't have the option to auto turn off the display when the unit is idle. i wont even comment on our transsexual alexa units (in the uk), we have no male wake word to go with the male voice so it's like talking to that "lia" (the trans swimmer).

I'd set up that nothing gets recorded and saved. I clicked to see and everything was being recorded and saved, and it still showed save nothing. The not intended recordings are interesting I wish it told me what it recorded and saved. The together thing seems great for when my Dad gets older or like when he broke 5 ribs and his clavicle biking. I could have dropped in or at least known he was ok. He sucks at remembering his phone so I wouldn't know if he was alright until I got home to him after work. So that would be cool to use down the road.

Alexa is good for blind people. You can register with the RNIB talking books service and get free books over Alexa (but must have wifi, of course). All controlled by voice commands. Also Radio stations.

This is only for those low-power, low-bandwdth devices like the Tile tags you put on things you dont want to lose. If someone steals your bike, for example, the tag will communicate with Alexa devices that have this feature enabled and send you a notice that your bike was within wifi range of this Alexa device at a specific time. That takes very little bandwidth and is only used in the rare event such a tag was within range. Your neighbors aren't "using your bandwidth".
