I've tested the advice that fragrance should be applied immediately after a shower and it had the exact reverse effect you're describing. So I tried to figure out why and although this isn't exact science, hopefully it may make sense. The temperature of the human body is approx 98.6°F (37°C). The average water temperature of a person's shower, however, is 105 F or 40.5C. So, guess how you get back to your body's preferred temperature? That's right, your body naturally thermoregulates, which means sweat glands release a fine mantle of sweat, cooling your skin as it evaporates. Most of us feel it as that pleasant glow after a shower. But what do you think is going to happen to any alcohol based liquid (which is how most fragrances are applied), when you apply them immediately after your shower? All I know is, applying fragrance immediately after a shower shortens it's life, and I think this is the reason why.

David Lake almost every other tip of these guys are really hilarious and untrue. They dont seem like true fragrance guys since they dont really know what they are talking about but are just doing it for views. You can watch other fragrance channels for better tips than theirs because they clearly dont own a lot of fragrances and know very little to nothing about it, probably stole the script of this video off an blog. However, i still agree that after shower its a good idea to use a fragrance, not just because it will last any longer but also because you are fresh and clean from any oder, sweat and other smells of your surroundings. It will give you a true representation on how the fragrance reacts on your skin. Also fresh out of the shower as you said when the sweat evaporates off your skin it will also carry the fragrance with it and make a scent bubble around you, now you might not smell it as much but that doesn’t mean its gone, our brains cancel out the signal if it’s constantly there, like most of us dont smell our house but when we go to someone else’s house we can distinctly smell their place. Their very first tip given in this video absolutely garbage until they explain the whole thing, yes fragrances have different concentrations but that doesn’t mean all fragrances are made the same. A lots of EDT concentrations will last 3x longer than higher EDP or Parfum concentrations. The only way to get longer lasting fragrance is to buy a long lasting fragrance. Do some research online, go to the store spray it on yourself and wait to see which ones last longer.

right! and then after says to apply lotion like be specific 😂😂 what i do is just wait 5-10 after showering and getting dressed (lotion already applied) and then spray my fragrance like Nautica Voyage which is super cheap. It lasted me 6-7 hrs from 9:30am-3-4pm!

I find some confusing recommendations here. @ 2:00 Apply right after your shower, as in when pores are open and can better absorb the fragrance and lock-in that aroma. Then at 2:45 moisturize the skin. But then @3:20 apply petroleum jelly onto your pulse points, so that your skin doesn't absorb the fragrance (!???) One other thing is that I've heard quite a few times here on YT that people apply fragrance to their clothes precisely because that way the fragrance lasts a lot longer, not the other way around.
@mannfan124 жыл бұрын
I found this confusing as well.

Fragrances, especially from real fragrance brands (and not fashion brands) are complex mix of aromas, generally consisting in 3 layers : high notes, middle notes, base notes. The fragrance are made to be applied on skin, the layers will evaporate with time, each step changing how it smells. Applying on clothes will disturb this process. Yes it might last longer on clothes, but it won’t be evaporating as intended. Not to mention clothes (and jewelry) don’t like to be sprayed with fragrance. It might cause stains or premature wear. Overall, it is recommended to apply on a dry and healthy (clean, well nourished, hydrated) skin. While this will extend the « lifetime » of the fragrance, it depends heavily on the product itself. Fresh and diluted fragrance often last a few hours, while more spicy and concentrated fragrances often last the whole day. Some brands are know to produce only long lasting fragrances, even fresh ones. So it really depends. Not to mention fragrances react differently to every skins. Some skin will retain certain fragrances more than others.

Applying onto clothing increases the fragrance's longevity, while lowering the area that it projects off of. Applying to your skin will make it project further, while consequently lowering its longevity.

I was advised by the guys at Floris when I visited their London boutique that you should apply fragrance about 20min... or longer, after bathing. This gives your body's ph level to rebalance and if you do not moisturise [most men don't] it allows your natural oils to balance out. Tom Ford fragrance specialist agreed and just yesterday the Louis Vuitton fragrance specialist also agreed... Thanks for the video but I'll stick to this advice thanks. 👍🏼🙏🏼

One of the best things I started doing when it comes to fragrance is actually applying it before putting clothes on since very often the liquid will flow and touch the neck turning it yellow on most white t-shirts and I lost one too many because of that.
@Call-me-Al4 жыл бұрын
As a layperson, I would say that the best reason to spray on your skin instead of your clothes is 1) it will actually mingle with your skin chemistry, which can have pretty magical results sometimes. 2) Because you aren't supposed to reek clouds of it. It's much classier to have your scent enhanced when people stand right next to you or even lean in to speak more quietly to you, than when the scent is basically shouting a cloud of odor to anyone standing a few meters near you. In my experience others more easily misjudged how much perfume they use when they spray it on absorbent textiles than on their skin, though that impression might just be wrong. Some kinds of people at least overdo it on clothes.

I wore fragrance everyday during lock down. I live on my own. but a spritz in the morning made me feel like I was looking after myself. Gives me a lift in the morning. I wear it for myself. But I find fragrance really doesn't last that long unless its a particularly heavy scent like oud, which I like in moderation. my current fave fragrance is habit rouge.

You can always use a fragrance primer like Canvas and Concrete or Linger. Using it will give you a few extra hours. A lot of people will use a unscented moisturizer, but I prefer jojoba oil. Has helped, but moisturizers/oils tend to make me feel greasy after my body temp warms up, and they also tend to hold in not so pleasant odors too. You also need to understand your own chemistry. Some fragrances are hardly noticeable on me, but when worn by friends, they project well and last all day.

If you apply perfume in your clothes it will last longer because the fabrics held on to it better than skin, the thing is, dont apply it 2 cm away from your clothes like raphael is doing in his neck or else it create stains, just get a good half extended arm away from clothes and it will do just fine

@TheNraveles4 жыл бұрын
ctrlaltbean they’re saying to put cologne on right after a shower, but then they also say to put on moisturizer first. If you use moisturizer, it seeps into your pores. So basically the logic of it going into your pores is made to be completely invalid.

Pores don't open and close. There are no muscles attached to them. The pores you have on your body are going to be the same size for the rest of your life. If anybody is trying to sell you something by saying, "It opens/closes you pores," then you should immediately stand up, turn around and walk away.
