10 Common Questions About Glitchless Subnautica Speedruns

Just a short video answering some of the questions I'm asked frequently.
These all apply to glitchless categories but most also apply to glitched.

Happy to see another video. Now a question that ive had for quite some time. Is it possible (under incredible RNG) to get a shield generator from a time capsule?

Whoever votes on which capsules make it into the game would have to approve it, so it doesn't seem likely. It doesn't matter for the speedrun though since picking up a time capsule isn't allowed in the main categories.

So fun to watch an expert on the game! This might sound like a silly question, but do you enjoy playing Subnautica still? It seems like the kind of game you could play for hundreds of hours and not tire of, but speedrunning is sort of its whole own thing, I would imagine it effects the experience

Speedrunning it is still fun but it would be hard to enjoy the game casually again. I come back to old games once in a while and they're still fun because I don't remember everything about them each time, but I don't think that could happen with Subnautica anymore. It's not a huge loss since I played a lot before attempting to speedrun, but that does keep me from speedrunning other games I love. Great question!

why does it add an invisible collision after the aurora explosion? its so random also that weird sound is unlike anything i have heard before, hold while i surprise my friends

That answered any questions I might have!! The only one I did not know is how you get into the MVB/Laser Cutter wreck through the bar!! EDIT: I double-checked on PS4 and yep, I got right into the wreck before Aurora exploded, just exactly, precisely as you stated and demonstrated. DID NOT KNOW THAT! O_o

how much luck is required in these runs, ive watched, seems to me that its a lot less than for example in minecraft

how did you get the aurora to explode? Or does it explode after 50min??

The Aurora explodes at a random time, but thankfully we can figure out when it'll happen pretty early into the run. The first radiation warning message happens between 9:12 and 16:00 after starting, and you can multiply that time by 5x to get the time the explosion will happen. Record pace runs need it to happen very early.

In your speedruns, how do you get out of the lifepod without fire

Skipping the intro skips the fire too.

I was wondering why you don’t craft fins, wouldn’t you move slower thus making the run slower?

Fins don't affect seaglide speed so by the time we can craft them they're not very useful. Fins are great in Below Zero though.

How many hours do you have in the game? 3,500+ attempts not including practice and playing the game originally before even beginning speed running must be 5,000 or more hours right?

It looks like I'm at about 500 hours. I thought it would be higher too but most attempts are quick resets for a better spawn. When I'm really grinding, I'd guess about 1/20 attempts make it past 3 minutes.

@@cinnamoncookies I didn't really think of that. That makes sense. For whatever reason I assumed 3,500 attempts x 1 hour each but that'd be a little unreasonable tbh.

Hey wait how do you breathe in bases without air pipes

You don't need air pumps on a base. The pipes are so you don't have to go inside your base to refill on air. If you put a pump on your base it is sucking air OUT not pumping in.
