I feel like these questions are most useful when you think about your answers to them-and how you might mention that in a conversation as a segue into asking the question yourself, or at least moving the conversation along.

Frank Gadson about 10 years ago, while in Australia, I stopped at a restaurant on the highway between Canberra and Sydney. It was about midnight. The place was large and packed. At a large table next to mine was a group of teenagers celebrating an 18th birthday. One would expect rowdiness or noise at least. No. Silence reigned apart from the odd chuckle or murmur. My partner and I realised that they all seemed to be gaming on their phones, until the penny dropped that they were texting their friends around the table. Stunning, I suppose at least they were out together.

If I were asked some of those “starter” questions at a party, I would feel like the person was a bit nosy, too inquisitive, and I would definitely be inclined not to answer and find someone less-interrogating to talk to!!!!

@@Drodz1030 don't know what you can possibly mean by that - seems like a personal comment - but when one is at a party, you want to have a conversation, not be interrogated. Framing some of these with statements about your own preferences and opinions before inviting the other person to contribute is a much more refined and eloquent way of going about this.

Hi, Raphael and Gentlemen Gazette, first time commenting here. Just wanted to know I really love your channel. I came by it around 3 years ago and is now by far the channel I watch most videos. This channel really got me into classical style, teached me most things I know about the subject, and even directed me to where to look further (recently got 'Dressing the Men' and 'Gentlemen' books). Just wanted to show how glad I am with your channel, and also from your store: got a couple of ties and neckties there which are simply gorgeous and earned me many compliments already. Please continue your good work and looking forward to new contents

Lucky you! I can watch only now these videos in my twenties, because before I was not enough able to watch a video in English comfortably because I'm Italian. I would like to watch them when I started 3 years ago to search for how to be elegant in the right way, inspired by Light Yagami in death note. Here in Italy, we have Douglas Mortimer for gentleman guidelines, but he is more useful to get the history and the culture of the dressing, and not for practical suggests as Gentleman's gazette, because he often speaks as a boomer, who prefer remind the good old days, than think about how to be a gentleman in the society of nowadays, and more importantly, for people out his range of age.

2:37 I hate when people ask me this question, especially if I just met them!... I feel like they're trying to know more about me to talk shit on my back!... I rather be asked: "What you do for a living and What are your goals in life?"... Which of course I will explain how wonderful it has been for me so far! (Thank God for that). So it depends on the occasion and the person for example:"What is your hobby?" to a young man and "What do you do for a living and your near future goals?" to a grown up man.

5:49 This is exactly the kind of question that makes me walk away from people!!!... I like when people talk to me about them selves and if we have something in common that's when I know the conversation is going to be stellar!!!. Also their honest opinion about a topic with the reason behind it is something I really respect!

Hey Raphael, seems like you left on the steady shot on on your camera. When using a tripod you have to turn it off or you will get these jittering edges like on the bookshelf. And if your camera allows for it you may open up the aperture to blur out the background a little more. Otherwise i really like the new background.

+Arne Flemming no, the vibration control is not the issue. It is the slider. When you open up more just a little movement will render you out of focus and that can be painful. I am with you, open at 1.4 you get nice bokeh but unless you have a focus puller it is not practical.

I don't think I'd ask any of those. They might be just about ok in a social setting (party, wedding, funeral, concert). Outside of that context, my asking any of those of a lady would come over as "hitting on" - "chatting up", which is fine if they want to be chatted up anyway by no-longer-so-glamorous myself, but probably not. More appropriate is to ask something "beyond personal", for instance "Excuse me, what do you think of [latest news event]?" or "Excuse me, may I ask why are you wearing a mask in the street?"

Do you happen to have a video, or a guide, that tells you what is considered personal and not? Or know of something like that that exists? I have the unfortunant problem that I wasn't born with this kind of knowledge, and to this day, for all my study of psychology and human nature, humans still baffle me. And I cannot seem to find a single good guide for what exactly is considered personal, and why. I mean... How is the relationship question personal, while hobbies are not? Or why is the vision one more personal than asking about their work? (The latter one, I can't even see any distinguishable difference, as they tend to intertwine.)

Is there a magic carpet under your feet? How are you moving from side to side in this video?

Beck Stein, asking for proper texting etiquette suggests that you aren’t the type of person this video was intended for. It also suggests that you are okay with settling for the lower class of life the world is settling into.

I appreciate and enjoy your content as well as your personality.... but I hate the music. It was charming at first, now it is just annoying especially how loud the opening and closing (trumpet? saxophone? ) part. Maybe if you lowered the volume of those parts and increased your voice volume somehow it would be alright.
