USE THE CAR CLIP ONS FOR THE VENTS - DRYER SHEETS ARE HUGE FIRE HAZARDS
@lindsayenrique8 жыл бұрын
Tip: If you're moving into an unfurnished place in college particularly, invest in minimal and light-weight furniture. A sound bed is inevitable but plastic drawers tucked away in your closet, a small desk made of light material and so on. I say this because you do not want to haul in and out heavy furniture especially if you're moving in and out year after year. Another thing to consider is a water heater if you live in the dorms. A $20 one will be good and it will be perfect, have a stash of coffee/tea/instant ramen/instant oatmeal so when you're to tired to head to the cafeteria or it's closed, there's food/drinks readily available inside your own dorm (don't have to sneak down to the community kitchen for food) TBH the minimalist lifestyle is so convenient for college students so try incorporation that kind of mindset when considering what to take to your dorm (be very utilitarian about it)

Hack # 2 needs something besides just the mattress to hold it down. If the objects the pouch is holding is heavy, it might just slip out regardless.
@susiiib22868 жыл бұрын
You can just make the part that goes under the mattress longer if you're planning on putting heavier things in there
@isabelle9217 жыл бұрын
I made the flap thing that went under the mattress long enough to go across my mattress (not difficult in dorms ^_^) and made another one on the side. Sorry it's late but hope it helped!
@calihoyer14157 жыл бұрын
kyliemou There are bedside storage units you can buy that velcro (like, hardcore velcro, not flimsy-Halloween-costume velcro) onto a bedrail or the framework of a bed and that have multiple pockets of different sizes, so you can have textbooks and your phone and pencils and stuff ready and out of the way, but still secure.

I'd like to add a quick warning for those of you who use the dryer sheet hack: I'm an RA, and when they're training us to look for pot users, they tell us to look for people who use dryer sheets in their vents to try and hide the smell. So, it works, but make sure you're careful.

DON'T PUT DRYER SHEETS IN VENTS IT'S BAD FOR YOUR LUNGS AND IT'S A FIRE HAZARD

If you need to actually want to make you're room smell good use the car vents and clip them on the vents it works just as they said in the video and it's safer!
@jillmarcellin7 жыл бұрын
most colleges allow diffusers in the rooms and they work great my best friend had one and her room smelt amazing! Or there are these candles you can plug into the wall and it melts the wax but no fire. I can't remember the name of them but they're usually allowed
@teetube7 жыл бұрын
For anyone else who isn't allowed flames in their dorm, what I did was buy an electric wax burner. That way I could still burn lovely smelling "candles" (wax melts) without there being a fire hazard! :)
@Kay-wv9ry7 жыл бұрын
If your school is really strict on the candle rule just make sure to cut out the wick. We could have candles as long as the wicks were cut out
@smilemore61307 жыл бұрын
Instead of dryer sheets you can also buy a aroma diffuser and some essential oils. It's expensive to buy al at once. But it's less toxic and in the end rebuying dryer sheets al the time is more expensive
@mp28028 жыл бұрын
The air freshener hack is AMAZING - dorm rooms just smell so musty all the time, having dryer sheets really makes it so much more pleasant. And congratulations Becky!!! 🎊🎊

I'm actually so surprised that you guys don't have at least a million subscribers! Your videos are so well produced and very creative, especially compared to lots of other "diy" youtubers who glue two squares of fabric together and call it an original pillow diy 😂 I've been here since 400,000 ish? Maybe even before that? and I've loved to see your channel grow and evolve as both of you grow too. I'm so incredibly proud of you and what you've done, and I look forward to seeing what happens in the future 💘 love you guys! xxx

I had a roommate whose schedule was completely opposite of mine. so we had our beds bunked and I put a black out curtain hanging down from the top bunk so that her light didn't bother me when I slept at night and since all my classes and schedule were early, I was gone while she was sleeping.

While Im at school, I use under the bed storage just like suggested, however sometimes that makes a room look cluttered especially when living with another person. What I found helped best to hide the clutter was to purchase some fabric and create a long bed skirt. I was able to use gray fleece and paper clips that then hooked on the mattress frame. Worked amazing for me and made me feel like people couldn't see everything I owned.

A lot of dorms allow you to have coffee pots. That serves as an excellent warming plate for a candle. Works best with smaller candles, though. You can also use scented oils in tissues or rags and stuff those in the vents or put them on the back of your fan. Not only will it trap dust to keep you from breathing it in, it'll also make the room smell great!

A lot of schools including mine don't allow risers. But most of those wooden beds - including the one in the video - can be raised and lofted and you can fit a lot if you rise it to the top notch. I was able to put those plastic 3 drawer bins under
@jillmarcellin7 жыл бұрын
some colleges have dressers that come apart so you can stuff it under the bed which is super helpful when it comes to floor space so be sure to look at that! I needed floor space for stuff and putting it under my bed was amazing. Also there are these stackable plastic containers you can get at walmart and target and you can stack as many of them as you want on each other (it works amazing when used as a nightstand). Power strips are a must and so its not on the floor take a couple sticky strips that is safe for the walls and instead put them of the back of the strip and you can stick it to the wall (doesn't sound like it'd change that much but it was super helpful and just looked a little nice)!!

I used one of those mattress pockets, like the one you guys DIYed, but I had problems with the flap siding out from underneath my mattress. If you do want to put heavier things (like a laptop or a textbook) inside, you might want to add a couple more felt pieces and some velcro to the flap, so you can secure it to the frame or mattress supports on the bed (depending on how your bed/bedframe is configured). Also, you can buy a bedside tray, which is basically a small wire box on a C-clamp...you could probably DIY something like this too, but it might be more complicated. Hope this helps!
