Those were examples of good mascots, but Banjo-Kazooie and Yooka-Laylee weren't actually failures. Banjo-Kazooie got neglected by modern Rare and Yooka-Laylee development has been rather quiet, because Playtonic has since shifted into being an indie publisher rather than developer.

A Lot of my nostalgia gor him comes from the fact 'Miracle World' was pre-installed on the Master System 2. 'Arcade World' was interesting but 'Lost Stars' was pretty bad.

Miracle World was awesome but you got it for free, like how Wii Sports is one of the best selling games ever because you had it if you had a Wii and everyone and their grandma had a Wii. The rest of the Alex Kidd games were atrocious. I only ever played any of them by rental, and I never rented them twice, let alone buy them. Alex Kidd in High Tech World was the first time as I child I ever thought "ok this game is just pure garbage"

to be honest Jersey Devil wasn't BAD it just was bland. It played well and the level design wasn't complete trash. that being said when I was a kid we rented it I only played the first few stages over a random weekend in the late 90's.

You left out a big one. A huge failure. Skunny. A failed PC gaming mascot that crudely aped the 2D platforming of its betters. Skunny even had a kart racer of questionable legality, since the developer left the company and left the unfinished sourcecode behind, but it was never made clear who owned what, so they went on to make Wacky Wheels, the GOOD PC cart racer, and the Skunny Kart devs cobbled something together on the buggy early-alpha of the Wacky Wheels engine.

In a way; Rayman both is and isn't a failed mascot. Because he keeps getting games; and is one of the best mascots; I wish he could've been in Smash Bros. though... And I remember playing "Rayman 2: The Great Escape"; on the N64. It was the very first Rayman game I ever played; and I thought Rayman 2 was the first Rayman game because I didn't know about him being a former PS1 exclusive mascot. But I do love the Rayman series. And I'm probably the only person who enjoyed Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. But I haven't played the recent Rayman Switch games because I don't have anyone to play them with...and I've heard how hard the games are; and didn't think much of it when I was a kid playing Rayman 2 with my Dad on the N64. No really. I thought the game was difficult by design. But seeing my Dad play through it while suffering due to the game's difficulty was funny. What I'm saying is: we need more Rayman. Sorry if this went on too long. I tend to do that a lot.

@@ilovegarradors Oh I know; I just wanted to say that Rayman's one of my favorite game characters; and sorry for not being more specific about that. But thanks for the info though; because my info of Rayman comes from 2 and 3; and not the original game; because I legitimately did think the Rayman series started with 2; but I've since seen pictures and screenshots of the original game; and it looks like it would've been fun; but super difficult. But we couldn't afford PS1 games back then; we could only rent them; on the N64. But I still loved it; but always wanted a PS1 though. But yeah; I agree; if Ray were Jaguar exclusive; he would've flopped; and probably been on this list. But luckily; that didn't happen; and Rayman did great. Until Rayman 3. Then he took a long deserved break; but came back eventually. He does seem to take breaks a lot. But he did get a Switch game and his "spirit" is in Smash Ultimate; technically. I know; Rayman 1 was known for being super difficult; so in a way; I'm kind of glad I missed out on the original one; but I do wish I could've seen how hard it was for myself. I know; Rayman is most definitely a beautifully difficult game; I've seen pictures and screenshots of it; but never played it myself. Rayman is a beautifully difficult series; honestly. And fun fact (that people usually forget): Globox was voiced by John Leguizamo in the 2nd game only; not blaming anyone or anything. Because; It's not like he ever returned to play Globox again anyways; and would anyone would've wanted his return? Who knows?

Earthworm Jim should be mentioned, because he has fallen into the same pit as the others, unfortunately. Earthworm Jim was great on SNES and Genesis for 2 games, even following with a cartoon series with none other than Homer Simpson's Dan Castellaneta as Jim. He even reprised his role for the 2 ClayFighters games on N64, with Jim appearing as a cameo fighter. However, everything fell apart with Earthworm Jim 3D, a poor 3d platformer with collect-o-thon elements. While a remaster for the 1st game was done, a 4th game was teased for the Intellivision Amico. If the console's failed launch wasn't enough, Interplay had to step in and confirmed how they DIDN'T allow Intellivision to use their franchise, Whoops 😅

I enjoyed Karnov back in the day; a bowling alley near my house had it and I thought it was really cool at the time. I even bought the NES port and... well, it was a decent-not-great NES port of a decent-not-great arcade game. I never thought of him as a "mascot," though. Is this list in random order? Because there is no consistency with this ranking. I mean, how is Bubsy more of a failed mascot than Awesome Possum? He has like 6 games and a failed cartoon pilot, whereas Awesome Possum only has one game before becoming forgotten and mocked by people to this day for being too preachy and anything but awesome. Also, how do you not know how to pronounce Dr. Machino? The game's title literally tells you as soon as you boot up the game. Do you actually play any of the games you cover?
