I was there! 8 hours on the coach from Newcastle, 11 years old, up in the nose bleeds, with an L.O.D bandana and Hitman shades on. I Sneaked down to about 10 rows from ringside with my Dad to watch Bulldog V Hitman. The whole crowd singing "Bulldog, Hitman, Bulldog, Hitman." Great memories.

Bret was a master inside the ring. It is just a shame his personality on the microphone wasn't always as graceful. By all rights, it shouldn't NEED to be, as there would be many ways to (as Paul Heyman would put it) accentuate the positives and hide the negatives. Unfortunately, Bret was in the era of over-the-top colorful personalities. Not at all his fault, and if he was at his peak during almost any other era, he could have been even greater. My gods, can you imagine Bret Hart during the Ruthless Aggression era? And a Hart vs. Benoit feud on top of it. (please leave any anti-Benoit statements at the door, this isn't ABOUT that).

@stormcrow78787 жыл бұрын
K1productions The biggest shame about him leaving WWF in 97 was that he had done the best mic work of his career from the "I'm getting screwed!" complaining that led to Mania 13 and his turn, through the new Hart Foundation stuff with Owen/Davy/Niedhart and Pillman. His promos in that period are electric and he had left that exaggerated cadence he always used mostly behind at that time. Sadly, when WCW dropped the ball with him, he went back to that and really only had one memorable segment in WCW for the right reasons, which was the chest plate/Goldberg deal.

The reason Crush v Repo Man did not air in the UK was because August 1992 was the first Premier league season. Summerslam 92 aired 31st August on a Monday afternoon on Sky Sports and this was the start of Monday Night Football. Richard Keys did a small preview show during the Summerslam taping broadcast and so there was no time for the Repo Crush match. I was at Wembley 29th August and wanted to tape the recording. It still might be in my dad's loft somewhere.

To be absolutely fair (and I am a Bret Hart mark to the power of 11), No 1 comes from Bret's own account in his book, which he put together years after Davey Boy passed, so he can't give his side. So it might not be quite that way: I really got the impression Bret wrote the book when his mind was in a dark place, because at the end he said he would never forgive Shawn or Hunter for what they did, and later, he did make peace with Shawn, so...yeah. Might be a negative bent to the remembrance.

The "true masterpiece" part isn't an exageration, folks. If you have seen it, go take a look. Bret/Owen Hart/Bulldog matches of that era have a pace and intrigue of their own, better than most matches at the time by a step if you enjoy holds and reversals rather than big dramatic moves, but this is absolutely one of the best. The other one I'd mention would be Bret vs. Owen opening Mania 10.

@rossomac217 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong but I'm sure the Repo/crush match was not shown in England because Sky Sports chose to cut that match out and air a super sunday/monday night football preview in it's place (keep in mind the premier league started it's first season/sky tv contract around this time) then went back to the show. I believe the match was Norwich City vs Nottingham Forest.
