I read all of them except Pretty Girls and Baby Teeth, but I'm planning on reading Pretty Girls this month and I can't wait :D and I loved all the other books on your list, there are definitely some of them that I would reread in the future, like The Long Walk and A House at the Bottom of a Lake! Oh and You, and Coraline! Haha pretty much all of them 😅

A few spooky ones that I just read read and recommend are Brother by Ania Ahlborn, The Turn of the Key, Sadie (especially the audiobook) and The Cabin at the End of the World.

First, oh my god. As a stay at home mom, I have never read anything as accurate as Baby Teeth at capturing the mind numbing horror of being trapped in the house with your child with no help and no breaks and you feel like you are slowly losing your goddamn mind. I LOVED that book. Recs because this is my WHEELHOUSE: If We Were Villains, Shadow Man by Cody McFadyen, Gwendy's Button Box by Stephen King, Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Cain, In The Blood by Lisa Unger, The Last One by Alexandra Oliva, The Library At Mount Char by Scott Hawkins (I cannot rec this enough), and The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich

I just did a fall recs video as well. On my list, one of the scariest books I've read is the Mary duology. The first book is Mary: The Summoning and the second is Mary Unleashed by Hillary Monahan. They are a retelling of bloody Mary and they are so spooky and creepy. I feel like not many people know about those books, which is a shame cause they're so good. Also, The Diviners by Libba Bray is one of my all-time favorite series, I cannot recommend that series enough to people. If you haven't read it yet you must. It's a 1920s paranormal murder mystery and it's amazing!
@zoeedelaney5 жыл бұрын

🙋 Hi first time viewer & new sub here! I love your recs, & will be reading them! I'm aging myself now. I read the Long Walk when it first was published as part of an anthology many years ago. I have been a Stephen King fanatic since I read Carrie way before anyone knew who he was. Anyway, I love horror, mysteries, & true crime. I read a book called Triad by Mary Leader back in the 70's. It's awesome. It's about a pregnant woman who believes her baby is possessed. I'm now reading A Secret History of Witches by Louisa Morgan. Not really scary, but very well written. You have to read Whispers by Dean Kuntz. It's one of his early ones. Very creepy! I do read a variety of books, not just scary stuff. I've rambled long enough. Take care, have a great day! 💙👍👻😱📚

I need to reread The Long Walk. I read it one sitting when I was a pretty young kid and totally missed the dystopian aspect! I seriously remember it as a bunch of boys who volunteered for the walk and was so confused why they'd do that when it's guaranteed that all but one will die. As you can imagine considering my poor reading comprehension, I thought it was pretty dumb at the time. I'm so curious what my (hopefully) more intelligent mind would think now!

@zoeedelaney5 жыл бұрын
hahahahaha SAME! and that's a great question! I've only read one Karen Slaughter and I got more of an action-thriller vibe vs. slow burn disturbing like Gillian Flynn. It's very possible though! I plan to read more of her books though, and will definitely keep that question in mind!

I love you so so much, and I feel like all my comments have been critical and I do NOT mean to be at all. I just want to point out that mental illness has such a terrible stigma and we should really try to eradicate phrases such as "Not right in the head." Yes, I know Joe is scary and creepy and is meant to be psychotic, but please try to stop using phrases like that. They are up there with the R word, and "mental patient" in their level of degradation. Hugs to you and please again don't take this as criticizing you. I actually used that phrase up until a few years ago when someone kindly informed me that it was wrong.
