I adored the ending of Lock Every Door! Halfway through I was convinced I had everything figured out and was bored by it, but the ending just blew me away and made this one of my favourite thrillers I've ever read!
@ladyofthepeach9625 жыл бұрын
A reading goal of mine was to read more thrillers this year because I used to read a lot of them when I was younger and then stopped reading them at some point, but I still haven't found a thriller that actually gave me chills or sth. Still, I very much enjoyed The Death of Mrs Westaway; the twists were easy to guess (at least for me), but the story and the writing were really nice.

SAME I have 2 fall reading moods: slightly spooky/atmospheric and super cozy! oooh I am so picky with thrillers but I am really intrigued by Lock Every Door! okay I feel bad because I am one of those people who said Night Film is one of the worst things I've ever read! 😂 But I had no idea that's a common opinion?? when I read it and for YEARS before and after, the only things I heard about it were glowing reviews and people who absolutely loved it. Maybe there's certain things where we always feel like it's an unpopular opinion even if it's not really that uncommon (not sure if that made ANY sense)

I've got two requests. One I'm not sure you could do because I dont think you reath anthologies? But one would be spooky children/preteen book/anthology recommendations. And spooky short story reccs as well. (I seem to be drawn to short story horror over full length). Mine are Fragile Things, Smoke and Mirrors, The Graveyard Book, Skin (Roald Dhal), A Nightmares Dozen, and Oddly Enough (by Bruce Coville). And that's not even touching Tales to Tell in the Dark and Fear Street. And the other is just what books would you love to read If they were written or rewritten with a genre shift to horror or thriller or just plain spooky toned.

I loved the plot twist in Lock Every Door! I’ve read several of these and loved them (except for The Arrangement 😬). I just finished The Wives by Tarryn Fisher and it was amazing! Some of my favorite thrillers this year have been: The Passengers by John Marrs, Never Have I Ever by Joshilyn Jackson, The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides, Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier, to name a new. I’m really enjoying the fall content everyone is putting out right now 😍

Read both Dark Matter and Night Film because you suggested them. With Dark Matter I remember telling my boss “I didn’t realize this book was fucking with my head until I was done with it. It’s great” however I didn’t like Night Film as much! I agree you need patience to read that but I was really disappointed with the ending like I expected it almost. If you’ve never read a Gillian Flynn book, first I suggest it, secondly I suggest Dark Places or Sharp Objects, Gone Girl is very predictable.

@@Katesbookdate Highly recommend especially Sharp Objects at least for me, my best friend would say Dark Places. She purposely writes problematic protagonist, and they're unreliable narrators. But really it's the plot twist that gets you.

I've read Night Movie on your recommendation. It's a very good book for the most part. Unfortunately, the ending of the book was very disappointing. It was directly felt how the author could not make ends meet and come up with a worthy ending.
