Netrunner immediately came to mind. Omg plz do a Null Signal Netrunner vid plzzzzzzz. Rez the assets to get credits, fast advance agendas in remote servers, fire the subroutines, end the run...

According to legend Campaign for North Africa was never meant to be played. It was an exercise in logistics to show how complex war is and see how much detail could be researched. As well as water for pasta for the Italians you have to figure out how much gasoline has evaporated for every vehicle. When the game came out the KayPro and Compaq "portable" computers arrived. They came with BASIC language on disk. This was before spreadsheets were invented. People wrote special data bases for the game and would take them to conventions where 8 people would play it over the course of a long weekend convention. I wrote several Apple II data bases for my Wizardry characters as well as another that would print out rows of "*" to make a bar graph of performance data for an auto racing board game I made. Fun stuff!

Super fun list, made me think of John company which unironically taught me some history I didn’t know about all while getting crushed at an absurdity complex game

Oh man, you invited Cuba Libre and just to have them stand in the corner holding your glasses. On the other hand, probably just happy to be getting some attention since now everyone is only talking about Mars.

Scrabble is my number 1 sign of intelligence

@@Shelfside True but you can technically also be terrible at chess, poker, Magic the Gathering, Dune Imperium and Diplomacy and be bad at the game. You just have to be better than those you play against. Still Scrabble at least should mean you know words, the meaning and spelling of words, and how those words score the most points which means you know some math which already may make you smarter than the average person out there.

Look into the game Leaving Earth. It's a space simulation boardgame that requires the player to use real world mass weight ratio mathematics to figure out game actions before taking them and was designed by Nasa engineers. You're already using loaded terms like Maths and Nasa that are associated with intelligence so it ticks the box. The actual aim of the game though is to collect enough points by completing missions such as getting into orbit or first mission to mars.

Great list, though I think a lot more could be added and it depends on which circles and which people you associate with on what may make you sound smart. You could add to that most 4x games or more detailed strategy or mystery solving games like Orient Express, War of the Rings, A game of Thrones, Star Wars: Rebellion, Axis & Allies, Go, Sudoku maybe even Gloomhaven, Root, Agricola, Terra Mystica, Twilight Imperium, Nemesis and of cause Dungeons and Dragons.

If you play Dune Imperium and not the vastly superior Dune 2019, sounding smart isn't the first thing that comes to mind. Wargames are very complex looking and people often think you're smart if you play them, but also kind of a nerd. You missed High Frontier which is Rocket Science, the game. Actual smart people play Go.
