@IronheadOfScroteus5 жыл бұрын
That's why the Tull guys weren't there. They figured Metallica would win. It was just kind of a general assumption in the whole music scene. Nobody took into account that stodgy old people made up most of the voting panel on the grammy board. And old people back then absolutely HATED Metallica. I guess one of the many reasons I loved them so much.
@cdlangelier8325 жыл бұрын
I saw Jethro Tull in concert after that and they had fun with it, the dressed up 20 guys in trench coat who all played cut out guitars. Unfortunately the Prog Rock community normally has incredible skills than never gets them any credit, just like jazz.
@IronheadOfScroteus5 жыл бұрын

Yes and no, Queen were kind of out of the loop. They played Sun City which made the pariahs (in spite of insisting the audience be mixed) and the fall out from that spilled over into people protesting against them even being at Live Aid. That performance basically relaunched them from what was their lowest point, and should have propelled them to new heights over the next decades (unfortunately Freddie's illness prevented that)

You took what I said and completely misinterpreted it. What I said was that the Beatles appearing on the Ed Sullivan show is one of the most historical moments in rock history and THEN I said that the Beatles deserve to be in that top spot on this list because of how significant they were in the rock community and just the number of musicians and bands they've knowingly or unknowingly have influenced throughout many many years. People need to realise how important the Dee Snider entry is, he saved Rock. We ALL owe him
@carolinelala98185 жыл бұрын
It would have gotten bigger because the fight would have been more rebellious, even though Dee Snider was cool. I guess he really helped in keeping the records coming out without mass censorship. The bootleg market would have been out of this world if it had gone the other way but it would have never stopped rock and roll. Btw, they still don't play glam rock the 80's rock and metal on the radio even though that's what most people listened to back then and still do now. The numbers talk, the concerts everything. Like them or hate them Motley Crue helped define that and broke into it without any help from mainstream at all and got so big they couldn't ignore them any longer but the sure the hell didn't want to sign glam bands and the industry pulled the plug on it when grunge came along. So people went from good looking, getting laid, being decadent (sex, drugs and rock and roll) , to wearing grandpa's clothes and lumber jackets to (heroin and grunge) and for women children's dresses, minnie mouse shoes and red and black shoulder length hair with bangs mostly (blah!) .

The funniest thing about the sex pistols interview is the interviewer egged them on to humiliate them and has ended up a joke and lost his job

Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert should be on the list
@amerocker4 жыл бұрын
That is probably the _best_ tribute concert ever recorded.
@stellaphantom3663 жыл бұрын
@@amerocker I agree that it’s the best tribute concert and it was also for AIDS awareness, but I’d say top 20 at least.

I would never include MM in anything labeled “Greatest” he simply jumped on a train that had already been rolling for a long time!
@subway59074 жыл бұрын
Who did it before him? GG Allin? He wasnt nearly as big. MM was literally American moms biggest fear. The biggest villain of the 90’s
@gray012163 жыл бұрын
Doesn't matter if he was new on it. He's the most feared celebrity we ever have and no person will be as powerful as he was back then.

It's called role playing and persona. Not playing edgy.
