Karl. Don't otherthink this. You know many people are missing Simon, he was a big part of the channel. It's not your fault. In fact you're one of the main people who helped Simon get to where he is today. Simon Whistler fans... Karl is a legend. We should be thankful for them both. As Simon has left, I can't think of anybody else who deserves this spot more.

As a long time fan of this channel and of Simon specifically allow me to clear up some things about why I have truthfully not been as avid of a viewer as I once was... spoiler alert, there is not any reason that results in me diminishing this man or insulting this man as I am sure he is a decent enough guy and has earned his reputation that I have seen through the comment section since the announcement he was taking the spot. Keep in mind this is my reasoning and I do not have the ability to speak for everyone nor the ability to control cruel words of others. 1) I am still a little bitter at what looked like unreliability when content just stopped with no explanation. (I promise this is the most childish reason and I am well aware it's unreasonable, but I am human) 2) While I have nothing bad to say about him personally he doesn't have the same type of humor and way of speaking with the same wit that Simon did which was a big reason I liked the videos, he is just different and humans take time to adjust to change. 3) on the topic of change, the content people watch are near and dear to them. Many sitcoms and franchises have failed after making changes to the cast for this very reason. It has nothing to do with who Karl is, it is 100% because of who he can't be. 4) lastly (this is more of a personal issue than anything that affects others) I am losing my hearing, his accent is much thicker than Simon portrayed on screen, and truthfully it gets harder and harder every year for me to pick up on what others are saying when it comes to thick accents; deep south, English as a second language or even English speakers from England, Ireland, Scotland ect. And I am 100% sure there are others who have a similar issue but that is likely the minority of us.
@anothersquid

@@cottoneyedJoe29 I have the hearing thing, so I kind of watch the face in the video... basically lip reading but not with the skill of a professional. Of course, I could turn on close captions, but I haven't hit that level of personal acceptance yet, I think. I am Canadian and grew up with some serious British Isles accents around me, so I'm more used to it, but I can say that I've visited Boston, and find them almost unintelligible and their accent isn't *THAT* different from Karl's. If you want a linguistic adventure, go to Argentia in Newfoundland. That's where the hardcore "I's da b'y" types are.
@crouchingtigerhiddenadam1352
@crouchingtigerhiddenadam1352 Жыл бұрын
@@cottoneyedJoe29 I think that's fair. Simon taking up a new relaxed style, Today I Found Out referenced Karl's FactFiend channel. If you look at the earlier Simon videos, it was delivered very straight for a long time. Accents, I would agree, it can be hard and maybe I'm just programmed to understand certain British dialects without issue. I didn't think Karl's accent was that strong, I know some people with disagree with me. For me, I want to see what Karl can do, being himself and fearless. Simon used to speak a lot faster and I struggled. When Simon brought on the Blaze, I thought it was great. It was far more relaxed and easy to listen to. I think the mixing changed too, there was more bass/compression in his voice compared to older videos as well as a generally slower rate. I dunno, it's observations, not suggestions. I think it's great you took the time to respond. It's got me thinking.

There are a lot of parents here in the USA who have no business having kids. A lot of parents don't have the maturity, patience, and financial stability to have kids. If you want unconditional love get a dog!
@Darkflowerchyld718
@Darkflowerchyld718 Жыл бұрын
I think if you lack maturity, patience and financial stability you should absolutely not get a dog. They're just as dependent on their owner as a child is to their parent. If not more than a child because the dog will never learn to speak for itself. If you can't commit fully to caring for another life, dog or child, you shouldn't do it. I have three kids and a disabled dog. My dog has required more maturity, patience and financial stability than my kids so far. She was a healthy puppy, we had no idea she'd develop the conditions she has when we rescued her. But she did. And we're still here with her 7 1/2 years later. But yea absolutely way too many people having babies and adopting animals they can't care for. It's a damn shame.

That seems the same in most if not all countries. The whole "i own my child thing" is especially popular with conservative countries... like, isn't in some countries it's the norm for the oldest child to be essentially forced to be their parents' servant/caretaker? All in all, the "parent is the one who takes care of the child" not "parent is the one who controls the child" should be the norm

So 80% of parents are delusional, not realizing that all newborn babies are kinda ugly & weird-looking. They get cute pretty quickly, but fresh out of the oven, not so much. Yeah, sure, I might not disagree but think of when you're young (assuming you're a heterosexual for the sake of making this analogy) and you hear about or see genitals. You might think they're a lot weirder or depending on you as an individual, 'curious' looking, though as an adult with healthy associations you've subjectively come to adore them.

The most disturbing of this all is that those percentages of people who admitted socially despised things like regretting having kids, not enjoying being parents or even not loving their kids must be underrepresented, as many people would not respond sincerely, and hide their dark truth and go for what is socially desirable instead. 5% is the percentage of parents who ADMITTED not loving their kids. I wonder how many people wouldn't have had kids if it wasn't for the social pressure they felt towards it. This is why I absolutely respect child-free people who has the courage to make this choice, even if my choice was different. Earth is suffering from too much of us on her, if you don't want kids go ahead, you are precious to Mother Earth!

In many US accents especially in the south, the long i diphthong has mostly shifted into a monophthong approaching the ah sound, so Kyle sounds remotely like call, just farther back in the mouth. In your non-rhotic English accent, the r in Karl gets removed, so again it sounds somewhat like call. When you say Karl and Kyle back to back, they sound very different, but if you said Karl and someone from Arkansas said Kyle back to back, the difference wouldn't be so glaring.

American ESL teacher here. Karl, it’s just the accent. You don’t hit the hard R so it sounds closer to Kyle to us. Plus, some Southerners DO say Kyle very similarly to how you pronounce Karl. You can do nothing. You can hit the R a bit harder when introducing yourself to Americans, or you can quickly spell it. My husband says his name and spells it “I’m Sy, S-Y.” He doesn’t get odd looks because he also has a foreign accent too. For the spelling, I’m Stefanie and it is never ending. Karl is most often spelt with a C as well so we are both just screwed on that front.

Karl, you're a great host ☺️ Also I do see how people hear "Kyle". In my accent, we put more emphasis on the start than the end, so it sounds like your pronunciation of "Karl". Oddly though, as I hear you pronounce the "yul" in Kyle, my accent also has a hard ending with the name "Karl" and it ends up sounding like "Car-rul". Accents 😅

Also to add, your pronunciation is totally fine, I can understand you quite well even though I have a different accent.

13:41 Well, Brits tend to kind of gloss over the “r” and blend it in with adjacent letters/sounds. Whereas in the US, it’s usually hit harder. And people are going to think you’re more likely saying “Kyle” than “Kahl” or “Kayl”

i did not find Simon bad with this, knowing in the end he is only the speaker and the content is created by others in his company. He did his job quite good, but if you overdo it gets boring. In the last time i sometime asked myself if there are no other speakers than Simon. So some fresh wind is quite ok for me.

1. My name is Philip... I had 4 people with my name in school and all spelled their names differently. Philip (me), Phillip, Philipe, Phillippe. 2. Now that you mention it... I heard Karl in your first introduction but I heard Kyle when you signed off... was that on purpose?

Karl for permanent host! There are plenty of Simon channels for those who miss him. (I am personally subscribed to all his channels and podcasts). And now that Simon has 2 kids and a permanent cold and regular obvious lack of sleep, hosting on 3 less channels is probably good for his mental and physical health

Omg. Ugly babies are more likely to be neglected. That explains SO MUCH. My mom has never said that I was ugly, but she was the only who kept insisting something was wrong with me until doctors discovered that I had a potentially deadly genetic deformity. The only way she could have known was by noticing that I looked asymmetrical- aka, ugly!! Lol!! However, I did (and do) enjoy playing video games with my dad! Though, to be fair, I grew up in the middle of nowhere, loooong before online gaming was a thing, so he was often the only person around willing to play video games with me. Though I've been taking it easy on him since I was like ten... 😂 You're definitely a Karl, but my dad's name is Carl, so the difference sounds obvious to me. Including when you purposely said it wrong. 😂 My name is Georgia, and NO ONE can pronounce or spell it. It's incredible. It's a freaking state!! It's even worse because my last name is super Italian, so no one even wants to try that. So they go for my first name and get it wrong anyway, lol. My mom has told me multiple times that she wishes she had spelled my name Giorgia, the Italian spelling, but I'm REALLY glad she didn't. For one thing, people would have a way harder time with it than they already do. For another, the current Prime Minister of Italy is named Giorgia and is a far-right nutjob, so... just... no.

If all parents are honest, I can guarantee you that every single parent has had a moment when they regret having the bugger. Especially at 3 am when they won’t go to sleep and are howling at you😈. Then again I am sure that my parents had those moments too. But we all make it through and can laugh about it now 😇

Don’t get me wrong I love my kids to death and would do anything to protect them, even though they are grown now@@amorousg.1673. They both know I would do anything for them and I have helped them both through really tough bouts of depression and they are very devoted to me. But they appreciate what it must have been like for me to not get proper sleep for 6 years , and to constantly worry about their health and safety. Take care 💜

I've said, from experience, that those who are least appropriate for having children have at least 6. (I've seen this in action. Oldest sister and her husband had 6. Most of their kids went on to have at least that many. Similar cult to the Duggars... Just no one like Josh. Yet. Though the founder of the group and his son and son-in-law have all had s*xual misconduct allegations, if not convictions. Rife in that brand of independent fundamental Baptists...)

12:11 I’ve never heard of a class you couldn’t fail. People have been kept from graduating for failing gym, which is just insane. But then; if you can’t figure out a way to either get out of or pass gym class, maybe you shouldn’t be out in the real world. I was able to get out of gym class jr and sr year because there were academic classes I needed for college and would actually benefit me.
