@@frozenfoxgames5300 i don't think it's a time loop. I think he is trying to become strong enough to make sure his younger self doesn't stop him. It's assumed that he goes back to chase himself and the Six to prevent her from becoming too strong. Along the way, he gets into a battle with his younger self, in which the younger self wins every time. Since he isn't technically stuck in a time loop, the older version of Mono is stronger than his previous child self. All he has to do is continue the cycle until young Mono isn't strong enough

One of the Simons at the ending of SOMA Being stuck at the bottom of the sea in a body comprised of a dead woman and a robotic suit, probably missing an arm. The chances of getting higher up again are slim from all the mutated monsters and pschyotic robots, and even if he did make it to the surface, no one else is left. He'd have to watch himself rot and rust with little to no way to die in his condition. Also, the more he realises about what he is, the less stable he becomes, so he'd probably also go crazy eventually too. Pretty bleak if you ask me.

For me, it wasn't just what happened, but his realization of it that was chilling. You go through the whole game having proceeded through the "Choices" and the "Results", and to have it explained to him at the end what they actually meant, even if the player did understand, was a real trip.

All of the human consciousnesses in robot bodies you encountered during the game are its creations, and the first Simon's incarnation is as well. It's questionable how stable those persons are, but since you play as its latest creation, Simon, it seems that the WAU is improving in its task.

Silent Hill 2, a normal town where no one sees the same thing, and the fate of Angela seems like a literal hell. Her search for her mom while caught in a miserable depression and having constant hallucinations of her abusive father to the point his influence over her manifests into Silent Hill's reality. And her final encounter with James is just heartbreaking where the setting is covered in flames and she thinks he's her mum for a split second before coming to reality and explaining this is how she's sees the town, as a place engulfed in eternal flame, and she disappears into said flames, likely to just keep repeating the same depressing loop of trauma over and over. No one said you had to take physical harm to endure a fate worse than death.

Another from SH2, (spoilers, duh) the “James leaving the town with Maria” ending. As I remember, to get that ending, you have to play the game like you care Maria a lot and don’t carry the burden of what happened with Mary. The problem is, Maria is sick, just like Mary was. James, literally being stuck in a loop, will go through all of that stuff again and this time, a piece of Silent Hill is just next to him.

Splatterhouse. The mask isn't fused to him permanently. Rick's deal just isn't fulfilled yet. It set up for a sequel. The whole deal was "Until 'Jen' is safe back in your arms, you're mine." Not something wearing Jen or inhabiting her, Jen herself. It was setting up a sequel where you would more than likely have to face her or figure out a way to free your girlfriends soul.

Not only is he betrayed by his best friend to be in a loop of what he feared of being, alone with nothing but a TV, but he also grows up to be who he was running from. Stuck in a time loop that will never end. Not to mention he's only a little boy. He fought for so much and Santa gave him a chair and a dose of being alone

He then gets a second chance at life crushing cars in a scrapyard until he finds out that his boss works with local criminal organizations and that a bunch of the cars he crushed had people that may have still been alive inside them. He murders his boss in a fit of rage and is transported to the entity's realm where he's forced to attack and sacrifice the survivors for eternity. It's also brought up that the entity "motivates" its more reluctant or incompetent killers through horrible torture, which would explain how deformed some of the killers are.

Of all escort quest characters, Ashley is by far the least offensive. The reason being that she has a Bitch button. "Bitch, dumpster." She hides in a dumpster until all the issues are dealt with. "Bitch, follow." She comes to you and keeps pace, never moving at a snail's speed that you have to wait for unless she's cranking something. "Bitch, stay." You place her on a switch to trigger it or stick her somewhere safe in the absence of a dumpster so you can clear the area. You have far more control over her than most escort NPCs, and the fact that she's no sloth is great. Ashley may well be the best escort character in gaming history, or at least amongst well-known titles.

Another brutal fate is in the Five Nights of Freedy’s: most if not all the animatronics were human children who where killed and cam only move on by literally getting burned alive. Not only that, they never achieve their goal of stopping springtrap/william afton from hurting other people.

With "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream" I think it's funny that the other designers explained to Harlan Ellison that having a happy ending to a game for the characters was a better idea (this is in 1995, so I can see it). The happy ending they compromised with was, the final character that you use to destroy AM while still technically dying, essentially replaces AM and oversees the 300 people still in cryo on their way to waking up, and then they will basically be their caretaker after they do.

I would say that being trapped in Heavenly Host Elementary from Corpse Party would have to be one of the most brutal and unforgiving fates in any game that I have seen so far in my life. If you died in that dimension, not only would you have to relive your death over and over again in absolute agony, but your loved ones and friends in the real world would completely forget that you ever existed. I can't really imagine anything more fucked up than that.

It probably doesn’t count, since these characters do actually die, but literally anyone who dies in corpse party. The disturbing part of this that makes me consider it even worse than a normal death in their world is that anyone who is killed has to relive the events and pain of their death for all eternity. If they somehow survive, they’ll suffer an even worse fate shortly after. For example, Seiko Shinohara is hung in the original remake of the game. However, you are able to save her in a future instalment, only for her to fall down the stairs onto a sharp metal tripwire and cut her head off. And now, this is the death she’ll have to relive for eternity. Even once these characters have died, they are forever tortured by their horrific murders, and there are no second chances. Not even escaping your death can save you when you’re bound to die in an even worse event. Fucking horrific

The end of I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream is even worse than you say. I forget which character it is in the short story, but the surviving character isn't just turned into a blob. All the characters are immortal (although not invulnerable, there's a difference), so he is now an IMMORTAL blob that is incapable of ending its' own life through self harm. It can't speak, it can't see, it can't hear. It can't do anything but live with it's own thoughts forever. The irony being that this is exactly the situation AM is in, and why it hates humanity so much.

Another one: Being Maximillian Roivas in Eternal Darkness. Of all the characters that died in the game, he was the only one without a quick death. After surviving all the hell he went on his mansion, beating one of "The Ancients" servants and studying/writing texts about each creature he fought (detailing some of their weaknesses), he ended up in a madhouse because the police didn't believe a word from him for killing his workers (actually possessed people) at the mansion, losing all of his money and dying isolated in a cell with rats.

1. Trapped in an unnatural freakish body 2. Most normal people (as the mc is) don't see a life of fighting as a good thing. 3. Constantly have an entity talking in your head, guiding and manipulating you to some unknown (until it's too late) but ultimately ominous end. The end goal is a hostile takeover of your dimension btw. 4. Never eating again. This is a relatively small problem as you probably don't *need* to eat but imagine never tasting a good meal again. 5. Just because it lets you tolerate pain doesn't mean you don't feel it. It just means you don't pass out or go into shock from it.

Concerning the Splatterhouse reboot, Rick didn't fulfill his end of the bargain basically the deal was save Jen and completely eliminate The Corrupted but it was revealed in the end that while we physically saved Jen the entity leading The Corrupted their queen survived and escaped into our world via possessing Jen meaning Rick had to still be bonded to the Terror Mask. This was set up for a sequel but like with COD: Ghosts 2 Splatterhouse 2 was canceled due to the reboot getting mixed to mostly negative reviews meaning all we're left with is a dark cliffhanger.

you could have included The Forest's mutants' fate. basically they were children from 0 to 12 years old which were drastically altered by the resurrection obelisk's side effects, which turned them into feral beasts, including deformed leaping babies with skin overgrowing their face, fat charging mutants, horrific amalgamations with multiple limbs, young girls who retained their body but have malformed tendrils protruding out of their mouths and even a combination of giant limbless worm-like creatures mutated beyond resembling a human

To be honest I think William Afton from fnaf has suffered a lot too. 1: His lungs and vocal cords punctured, drowning in his own blood and not being able to scream. 2: His entire family died in the most brutal ways possible, getting him to kill kids out of anger. 3: He is stuck in a personalised hell, while his animate corpse that fused with a spring lock suit is doing unimaginable things to people.

Being a headcrab zombie in Half Life must suck. At least in most zombie apocalypses, people just die and their corpses become zombies. But there's plenty of hints that headcrab zombies are actually perfectly conscious and entirely unable to stop what they're doing, AND their bodies get so destroyed in the transformation that they're in immense pain.

I think that the people of We Happy Happy Few got off easy compared to those in the Lisa series. In this post-apocalyptic land shown in both Lisa: the Painful RPG and Lisa: the Joyful, the (mostly) male survivors have to scrape by in the desolate wasteland, with a good number choosing to take a drug (also called Joy) to make this existence a little more tolerable. However, unlike the Joy drug in We Happy Few, taking too much of it and then succumbing to your despair results in your transformation into a hideous mutant whose thought process is forever altered but is unfortunately still alive.

I feel like each survivor and killer from dbd should be on the list, force to play a twisted game of hide and seek with little to no chance of escape, each survivor having to keep doing gens to “escape” only to be dragged in again and start the cycle again, sometimes even being sacrificed or killed by the killers, and although the killers might be having a blast some feel like they don’t belong, or that they became the very thing they hated, for example trapper, wraith, and spirit. That’s not to mention that these trials are a way for the entity to feed on their hopes, fear, and emotions, all of them having to do the same thing over and over again, until they’re eventually drained from all their energy and are thrown into a void where they’re forced to spend the rest of eternity, with most people not even knowing what happened to them, or where they went, even being able to bring people from the dead, both survivors and killers, like Bill and Tap as well as Amanda, they’re stuck in a hellish trail with strict rules only to be thrown away and left to rot in a void filled with others who have suffered the same fate as the recent survivors/killers. The only exceptions being Pinhead and Pyramid head since they could possibly leave the trail and come back whenever they want to

That's why Catherine says they " lost " the coin toss, because the conscience that went to eden is a copy, they didnt transfer. So they went and stayed at the same time. Just like when he copied himself to the diving suit, so he could go deeper into the ocean. His other conscience stayed on the first suit. And you're given the chance to kill it or just leave.

actually one of the most horrific fates is Springtrap's from FNaF being riddled with metal sticks throughout your body with your skull and bones crushed with no way to die, because even fire didn't worked you feel constant pain, your "body" misses a lot of organs and some of your bones are replaced with metal parts also Zero's from Katana Zero you can't die, and you must do one specific drug to keep "living", although no one is able to even produce it again and when you'll stop - you won't die, no, you'll beg but no one would listen, and your feeling of time expands and expands, to the point of even if your brain is literally destroyed you still keep "living"

House of Ashes from the Dark Pictures Anthology. this one guy from the prologue who you find his body at one point in the game to be like half alive and preserved in some gel, and half dead and rotten away, and you have the choice to either kill him or leave him there, which would mean that he spent thousands of years in that state, only to not be given rest when there was a chance.

Trapped and being eternally hunted down inside of the Entity's realm, Dead by daylight: in this game, we can play either as a survivor or as a killer. As a survivor, we need to activate 4 generators and open a gate to escape the map meanwhile the killers must hunt the survivors down and hang them in hooks until they die. This game has real lore, random people disappear and get teleported to a dimension governed by the Entity, a lovecraftian like entity who only manifests when claiming the deceased survivors' corpses so it can feed off of the survivor's terror and the killer's bloodlust. A big amount of killers are humans as well trapped inside of the realm, but mentally tortured and brainwashed into the Entity's will, others are just monsters or serial killers that were called out to kill for the Entity. To ensure that the survivor's don't fall into despair too quickly, the Entity gives them the chance to escape these trials without being sacrificed by working together, however, while the they are able to escape the trials, they can never escape the Entity's realm and will always find themselves back at the campfire where they first woke up, always waiting for the next trial to begin. Even after being killed or sacrificed the Entity will always resurrect the dead survivors and return them to the campfire to prepare for the next trial. With each sacrifice, more and more of the survivor's soul is lost until they become empty shells devoid of hope and emotion. When a survivor reaches this stage, they are no longer useful for the Entity and are discarded into a sub-realm called "the Void", essentially the Entity's own personal graveyard. Imagine being trapped in another dimension and being constantly hunted down, with no possibility of real escape and being only used as an aliment of a demonic creature over and over until it gets bored of you

Are you implying being twisted into a monsterous form via surgical and alchemical processes fusing you to a beast isn't scary? To be trapped in a body that is not your own, only to obey The Machine as it tells you to slaughter people, including those you loved? You think a naturally occurring thing like the ocean is scarier than that? Ok lol. Oceans you can survive. Transmutation into a manpig is irreversible. Of course this is hypothetical, there is no indication in AMFP that they retain any shred of consciousness and really it's probably just their bodies being used. Which ultimately means it's not a fate worse than death, because it's just death. But by the metrics you THINK the process works, the above hypothetical is more than valid i think. Finally, we are talking about final fates worse than death. Being temporarily trapped on an ocean planet isn't a final fate. It's a simple survival situation. What is it with this comment section and not understanding the terms "fate" and "WORSE than death?" What you are saying is you would rather Just Die than be put in a situation you can reverse, which is actually dumb.

Gaping chest cavity, fingers growing into claws. You can really hear how bad it is for them in Half Life Alyx. It's clear that they're alive. Normal zombies don't cry like that..
