I don't think those books about divorce, drinking, death, and jail are inappropriate. I work at a daycare with many foster kids and these books have been their only source of appropriate explanation. Children need ways to comprehend upsetting childhood experiences that they can't understand yet. Being silent about such issues only hurts them more. I have never seen a child traumatized by these books. Most are made to feel more secure about their situation. Knowledge gives them security and a sense of normalcy.

It goes without saying that you also probably understand other views about these kinds of books. In case you don't, maybe a few thoughts for you: 1.) Kids have no way to "filter" what they are reading. 2.) Kids will often be unsettled, confused, etc. about adult subject matter. Naturally. They're kids. And there are still topics that are rather unsettling for adults as well... 3.) Preparing kids for these sorts of things that can happen in life requires far more than reading a "children's book" on any of these sorts of topics. Some things like parents getting divorced can require therapists, etc. 4.) Why would you expose kids to this darker subject matter in the first place? No CHILD should have to read such material, or even have access to it...

I thought you would put the book "the little match girl" here, it is a kids book that they should just make a little harder and give to older kids. my friends shown it to me when we where in a KINDERGARTEN CLASS. it about this girl who didn't sell any mates when she went out and she was afraid to go home because her dad would beat her. she then goes into an allyway and almost freezes to death before lighting a match and seeing food, lighting another and seeing a happy family and Christmas then lighting a third where she saw her dead grandma. she then hugs her grandma as she fucking dies with her. the final page was the police going "she must of got lost and light matches, there are burnt mates all around her" or something.

+Melisa Ransford In the version of Grimms Fairy tales in my parent's house there is a story called "as the children played slauthering/butchering" (it's in german I am not sure about the english title). It's technically not a fairy tale but part of the book and basically it's the story of a family being wiped out (2 adults, 2 children, 1 baby) with no magic or happy end or something. That said the original Grimms Fairy tales are already brutal when they are actual fairy tales.

I have to say some of the books about traumatizing life experiences are helpful for the right kid in the right situation. when i was little my best friend died suddenly and books like that helped me understand a lot more and cope a lot better.

The games in the indoor book are old games that exist since I was a child... I played the one with the cat, the person who is the cat tries to make the other laught... the problem is that now people think badly about anything, like hugs and kisses (something kids do normally)... I think our society is mentally sick, everything is sexual for people, like innocent games like that... so who is wrong??? I think the people that think that a hug and kiss between two small kids is sexual is a sick person!!! Note: many those games we used to play even outside, but many times inside is raining days!!!

Most of them just want kids to know the realization how the human reality is worse. The Perverted books one in my opinion are also relatable to the kids that are perveted in life at a very young. Reality is well really existing so the authors try to help the close-minded kids to realize how human reality can be so down like drugs, abuse, dissapointments, pedophiles, murders, deaths and more
