The eyes are the window to the soul. In Bloodborne, when you lost your echoes to an enemy, its eyes would be glowing the next time you encountered it. Lore states that Marika removed the grace from the tarnished eyes. Breakable rune items resemble eyes. Any enemy in Elden ring with glowing eyes always grants a larger amount of runes. In these games, the soul is in the eyes.
