Although it was Daimler, FCA, etc., I’ve known this since the 90s when we had Chrysler/Dodge vehicles. My father finally stopped buying the brand about 10 years ago. Aside from diehard Jeep fans, I don’t understand the allure or line of thinking. Better off buying a used Honda/Toyota.

I guess that the reason why the Dodge Hornet wasn't on this list is that not enough of them were sold to make a decent sample size.

Frontier is a surprise. People act like it’s bulletproof because of its V6 and it being the only midsize truck with a V6. I guess it shows reliability is more than engine, and just because an engine is normally aspirated doesn’t make it reliable.
@chezzyperson33392 күн бұрын
The only reliable midsize truck is the Ridgeline now

The Colorado/Canyon have a 3.6L V-6 as standard in 4WD. The older version of the Frontier was very reliable, this newer generation uses a new V-6 not the older one used up until 2019.

Does anyone know if this data is "normalized?" In other words, I wonder if ALL vehicle brand/models were represented equally. Also, were any vehicle brands excluded? Just need more information. Too, wasn't Rivian voted the car with the greatest customer satisfaction? Were these surveys subjective responses or was empirical data used? Thank you!

The problem with Consumer Reports is that they only collect data from their members. If they allowed nonmembers to submit surveys to them they might get different results.

I could almost guarantee that there were more tundras with blown engines that have a national recall due to prevalent failure and Tacoma's with common transmission failure, than an Escape Hybrid with problems, or Genesis G70 with issues.. But, we're not gonna mention those Toyotas now are we...? Lol. It's almost like Toyota always gets a pass on these CR ratings even though there are literal news reports calling out the brand. I own a Toyota, and love them. But come on, guys. Play fair.

@codincoman9019Күн бұрын
You don't understand neither statistics nor semantics. Because what the advertising agency JD Power is running is very far from being a reliability study, having only 4 years of data (vs. more than 20 years for CR, that doesn't accept sponsorships), a small panel (that translates into huge error margins, not like the approx. 300'000 CR responders) plus sponsors influencing the rankings (they use their different areas scores' weight and targeted questions - because corrupt statistics can show you whatever you choose to advertise). Thus the "Durability Study" - relabeled last year from the correct title "Initial Customer Satisfaction" - published by JD Power is not about reliability (that is measured long-term), but about some kind of customers' satisfaction in the first few years (related rather to how well different features/gimmicks are perceived by the drivers), measured obviously short-term. This is not to say that CR is perfect (they have their flaws when ranking the German, Korean, American clunkers so high), but their data is far better and an weighted average for the last 5 years it gives you a fair ranking of the car brands and cars - ofc, the best cars/brands are the top Japanese ones.

Not surprised to see Jeep getting a couple mentions. Had a 2019 compass (ok, not a Jeep except for the badge). It was a backup city car for me as I still have my ‘87 XJ. Four tours of the shop to resolve an alternator issue. The fourth time it was out of warranty. It was in the shop a good 10 weeks in two years. Not sure whether to blame the shop (a Jeep dealer), incompetence, or poor quality. To Stellantis’s credit, after I called they stepped in and had their master technician work with the local shop to fix for no charge what I suspected all along. Sold it within a week. I’ll stick with my 35+ year old XJ thank you very much.

Adapt, change or go bankrupt. Nokia and Kodak were once leaders in their industries but were slow to adapt to new technology. Legacy auto dealers are a nightmare for legacy auto makers. They gouged customers trying to buy electric vehicles. Legacy auto dealers abused their customers by adding market price adjustments to gouge their customers for EVs They added pricey add ons and other costs to pump up the prices and their profits. Tesla has the right idea. Buy online. No hassle. No sitting in a show room for hours. No salesman BS. No crazy markups. No I have to see my manager BS. With Tesla you can buy a vehicle in 5 minutes or less online. The dealers have no one to blame but themselves. The dealers are dragging the legacy auto makers down with them. The problem with legacy auto makers having slow sales leads back to the legacy auto dealers. They try to talk people out of buying and EV an want to put them in a gasoline car. Many people hate going to legacy car dealerships. Many people call them stealer ships for a reason. New car, used car or going in for repairs you always walk out feeling cheated. People have no sympathy for dealers.

German, Korean, American, Stellantis lemons etc. But the Chinese junks are the worst (even the ex-Swedish Volvo and the ex-British MG), followed by the Indian clunkers (ex-British Jaguar and Land Rover). Some lemons (mostly produced in China) might look cheaper while having amazing features/gimmicks, but the truth is that their TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) is huge. In case you want the best cars (reliable and low TCO), then buy the top Japanese cars. This way you'll not waste time and money.

How do you define reliability? My 2013 jeep wrangler had a recall and engine repair during warranty, it was running fine before and after, they replaced the radiator and fixed a control problem on the heater, all back when it was basically new. It now has 208k miles on it, sure there were other repairs, AC at 180k, new front end parts at 200K - so what? Thing wear out. I would buy a new one except for the inflated price, so, that is TBD. There is, however, no other vehicle like it for the price today, none. Broncos are more for the base model and way too wide, Toyota similar, too big, way expensive. Nobody can match the 2 door Wrangler, nobody. As for the engine problems - WHAT ARE THEY? Without specific information on what is not "reliable" - which parts, you can't tell anything. Years ago these same clowns were recommending VW cars that fell apart and were actual shit. Why? owner satisfaction - NOT reliability. So, they recommended junk. The people who use and subscribe and report to CR are a closed audience - they are not the average person, they are biased.

What's false about it? It's a list of the ten least reliable 2024 models as reported to Consumer Reports. They aren't saying anything beyond this one metric, that of reliability. And while reliability may not be everything, a vehicle's reliability is one of the most important considerations when buying a car or a truck.
