The first thing to consider when reading owner reviews is that people are stupid. They buy a 1.5L micro crossover with a constant velocity trans and then complain about no acceleration. I love the ones who complain about the styling. Well, it looked good enough for you to buy it, right? What changed since then? If you KNOW what you are buying, you probably will not be dissapointed.

In 1970 my friend was hired by GM to engineer a material for their seats that would wear out in 5 to 10 years. They hired others to do the same with other vehicle parts. Today, unfortunately, planned obsolescence is a major part of vehicle designing for most auto-makers. Substituting plastic for metal is just one example.

Appliances, too. Our new (best buy) dishwasher failed in less than four years. Our previous dishwasher was in the house when we bought it in 2000. It was older than that, and lasted 20 years while we had it. Most everything made now is made for failure. You can switch brands, but....good luck.

Yes, cars and appliances, are not made to last as long as the older models of earlier years. Why ? They need you to come in and buy more often. Automotive manufacturers, make their units to where you have to return to dealer service for repairs. The service dept. Is where the dealerships operating expense is covered. I know, I was a service mngr for one.. Nissan quality " fell apart ", when they changes from Datsun to Nissan. It is a shame of their downfall . I agree with CR's findings, there is some real sorry made autos out there.

Really? I have an '18 CX-5 too. Fairly reliable, but only gets 23-24 MPG, and I baby it because it's not very quick, so why waste the gas? Nice sounding Bose stereo, but it's VERY quirky along with anything else controlled by the main computer (LOTS of error messages which fortunately clear after shutting down and letting it reset itself). Lots of sqeaks and rattles after only 35K miles and it's very top heavy too. It gets me around (for now), but I wouldn't be too keen on buying another Mazda in the future. But maybe that's just my bad luck. Should have known better, CR likes Mazda's... See what CR says, and then do exactly the opposite!

Best car I've ever owned: 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara with manual transmission. I owned it for just over 10 years and when I went to buy a new one I was told Suzukis were no longer being sold in the US. I lived in Alaska the whole time I owned that car and it never failed me. Got me through massive blizzards and drove the sandy beaches at the mouth of the Kenai river, never getting stuck while "reliable" cars like Subarus and Jeeps were belly down in the sand. Please come back, Suzuki. I'll buy one the second you return (as long as manual transmission is still an option).

Never will buy a Suzuki, not because it is a bad car, after all, it is Japanese, so pretty reliable.........No, the problem I have with Suzuki is that I once was at a dealership with my wife to buy a new car, we didn't want an expensive car, for us it was not important since we didn't drive a lot, so we were looking for the base model at the entry level..........after a lot of talking I said "okay, we will think it over"......to which the seller replied: "yes, maybe it is better to save a few more cents"......Little did he know that my wife at the time alone made more than a 100.000 a year, we could have bought one new car of that type every MONTH if we wanted to.........perhaps it was only that we wore jeans at the time........However, being this kind of insulting to a customer has put me off Suzuki for the rest of my life! Am a very happy Mitsubishi driver now for many years, and no, not the cheapest model!!

The only reason I bought an SUV instead of a hatchback is road clearance. Due to knee and mobility issues, I need a vehicle higher off the ground than standard cars. Unfortunately, my choice of Subaru Forrester had become more of a family vehicle, giving up more valuable luggage space for more room for the back seat. If the back seat folded down better, it would be less of an issue.

Having had a car I ended up being unsatisfied with I can say not everything is revealed in a test drive. Such as miserably uncomfortable driving seat on a long trip, visibility issues that seemed fine on the test drive but in real driving become an issue, road noise, you just can't tell everything from a test drive. As far as reliability goes I always look up lots of reviews and owner forums, I don't think everybody does or some of those cars wouldn't be selling well.

When they say they don't like the design or interior, it makes one wonder why they bought it in the first place. I only buy a car after test driving and really having a good look at it to make sure I like it outside and in. I also do a bit of research first by asking owners what hey think of the car now that they have bought one regrading reliability etc.

In the UK the Nissan Rogue Sport is called the Nissan Qashqai. My 2019 model has the 1.3 turbo engine (160 bhp) and is as quick as a 2.0. It's quiet too, with no turbo-lag. The autobox is a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission --a very smooth box. CVT versions are obsolete in UK. I think Nissan has recently upped their game in Europe. The Qashqai is the best seller in Britain. I'm very pleased with mine. Yes, I would buy again.

A seven-speed DCT? Wow. Huge improvement over a CVT. I do think that anything past seven starts to get stupid. My car is an automatic and I hate when I am cruising about, not on the highway and it drops all the way to 7. If I need power quickly I have to mat the throttle.

My wife loves her 2022 Infiniti Q50 Luxe. I do also. This car has a conventional automatic transmission and the engine has plenty of power. The infotainment system is nice and responsive and we find the twin screen system is easy to use and makes good sense as we just use the top screen with Android Auto and use the bottom screen for controls. I think most reviewers simply haven't been paid by Infiniti to provide good reviews. The pricing they showed was for the higher end models, the Luxe is a great bargain and still has leather seats while most competing models are upholstered with plastic.

I'm glad I was able to purchase a 2005 Jeep Liberty with the diesel option. The Liberty has truck grade differentials and transmission. It is rated to pull a 5000 pound trailer so I knew it was a tough vehicle before I bought it. I confess it does not ride as smooth as my friends Grand Cherokee but it turns really sharp so parking is a breeze. I owned a 2002 Liberty first. It rarely got 18 miles per gallon never quite made 19. The diesel version frequently gets 22 even in all wheel drive. In cool weather, no A/C and windows up, it gets close to 28 frequently. The diesel is a bit noisier but not horribly so, it has lots of insulation with a thick valve cover and a pad under the hood. The vehicle now has 275,000 miles and starts and runs extremely well. I've replaced two alternators but the factory starter is still in service. What amazes me most is the transmission. As a teen in 1960 automatic transmission were lucky to make it to 60,000 without a rebuild. Mine has been serviced at about every 80,000 miles with fluid and filter and has not needed any adjustments or repairs. It has a heavy duty transmission and came with synthetic fluid which is what was used at every service. All of the lubricants are synthetic. I like that the power steering and trans mission both use ATF+4. I had it ziebart treated and plan to keep repairing it till I can no longer drive.

The car I drove as a young man was a hand me down 1977 Dodge Diplomat from my parents. It was a POS; it ran extremely poorly, especially in cold weather. There were several times that the car nearly got me killed due its balky starts, cutting off, etc. After driving it for three years, I was given a 1989 Mitsubishi Raider (like a Montero, but minus two doors) to drive to college! It was one of the most reliable and amazing vehicles I have ever driven! In my twenties and thirties, , I drove a leased Chevrolet Camaro that broke down the first day I owned it and a leased GMC Sierra 1500 that had minor electrical issues throughout my time with it. I also owned a Pontiac Grand Am at one point; it was a very decent small car that was good on gas, had lots of features and ran great for the seven years I had it! Throughout my 40s and early 50s, I have owned two Honda Accords that were flawless in every way! If you’ve read this far, I bet you are starting to see a trend! American cars - except one - tended to be a problem. Japanese-made cars were amazing from day one to “goodbye, old friend!” My mom and mother in law take their Ford F-150 and Jeep Grand Cherokee to the shop regularly! My 120K Honda Accord soldiers on! Domo arigato, Japanese workers!

However with the prices of today's offerings one needs to make big bucks to get into these unless one pays cash. She's looking at a Kia Soul but unfortunately they're high demand vehicles here in FL and this is a terrible state to purchase a vehicle in. I told her to research out of state. That means sell her vehicle privately and fly out to drive it back. I recently purchased mine and never saw the dealership however I paid cash.

i have a 2019 Q50 2.0t awd and for the most part i like it. only complaints i have is it's over priced for the segment, the tech is way outdated but serviceable. i dont rely on it to drive so not much of a loss. and it has a bit too much body roll in tighter turns. fit and finish is top notch. no squeaks or rattles, interior doesn't feel cheap, still looks great on the outside. 7sp transmission so you don't have that mashed potato feel of a cvt. awd handles the weather like a champ(as long as you don't drive like an idiot). overall i'm pleased with my purchase.

I drive Honda all the way! Its not let me down so far. But, its getting so that they need to put in more thought into their vehicles. I have a blind spot and it sometimes hard to adjust to it in heavy traffic. I have accomodated by buying a really BIG rear view mirror. The new cars-ARE THE SAME WAY!! You would thing someone would have caught that long ago but not yet!???Wow. I drive them till 100,000 miles then trade them in. Never any problems but that.

Amazing how the Infiniti QX50 went from fun and fantastic to boring and regrettable. I have the pervious generation, and I have always loved it. Powerful and good sounding 3.7L NA V6, smooth 7 speed automatic, and generally a perfect sized SUV for my needs. No surprise on what's wrong with the new one though, they moved to a 2.0L turbo 4 banger and CVT transmission, clearly a downgrade from what I got. I would have regretted buying a new one as well.

I never care about the backseat. I have 2 teenaged boys in the house and I feel like the less-accommodating the backseat the less likely they'll want to borrow my car and do the things I did to their mom in my dads backseat before they were born (1994 Dodge Intrepid, HUGE backseat lol).

Most new cars today are not worth the large sums of money consumers have to pay. So, if you purchase a new car expect not to get your monies worth of an excellent car. There is no perfect car but, very few come close to being excellent and to find out which ones come close to perfect, you need to explore all the makes and models. Good Luck!

The Renegade is The best car I have owned and I like driving the Renegade more than my 2012 Volvo XC60 AWD D5 which I still use. Have to agree with most of these, except with the last one. The CH-R is a hidden gem, Some say it's a 'glorified Corolla, which is a plus, cause it's more versatile and just as reliable, not to mention it's good looks. I'd take one. The rest are near garbage, for sure.

Sounds like your Toyota fanboyism is showing hard. They surveyed actual owners. People who bought them and drive them every day. Not sideliners that think "oh it looks good, I'd take it." The car is slammed in almost every review you can find, and over 70% of people surveyed wouldn't buy it again. The badge on the front does not mean it's a good car. It's a Turkish-built POS, plain and simple. Not up to typical Toyota standards at all.
