Lesson # 8.1. Signup for Law firms going after uber/lyft... for breaking the IC laws to recover part of your stolen monies as a driver.

Tip: Find a tire vendor that offers a road hazard warranty or certificate. Some vendors include it in the price of the tire and others offer it for a separate, additional fee. The idea is that your tire is replaced if sufficient damage occurs before the mileage on the tire exceeds the rated mileage for that tire. As a full time driver I have been through quite a number of tires.

Buy once cry once….a good quality tire might run trouble free for 60-80k… a “black and round” china bomb tire might get ya 20-30 k with a flat, a blowout and a terrible ride….but it was half the price with much more down time

Tip: Ask your riders if they like the mechanic at whose shop you pick them up or drop them off. You may need a back-up for yourself if your mechanic is not available in time or closes down.

You forgot what I think is the most important lesson: find a real job even if it pays minimum wage because ridesharing in the last 2 years leads to nothing!

I drove for Shuttle Express in Seattle 30 years ago, a shared ride airport 12 passenger van service, and loved it! No GPS or Apps, just a Thomas Guide and a radio to dispatch. You relied on the dispatcher to put people on your van who lived in a fairly efficient route from the airport to their homes or hotels (usually 3 or 4 stops), then pick-ups back to the airport. Never a problem with payment (we even took personal checks!), decent tips in cash.... no drunks! The worst case was having too many stops on the way to the airport, people get nervous... The best complement I remember from a woman was: "I did not curl my toes once during that ride!"

Tip: Make certain that you have insurance! Your state’s laws may vary, but in California, from the time you turn on your app, your personal auto insurance does not cover you, as you are now operating your car for business use. Be clear about the gap between your personal auto insurance and when the platform insurance is available to you. Does the platform insure you from the time you accept an order or ride or only after you pick up the order or ride? Ask your insurer if there is a policy supplement or “rider” that can protect you during the gap.

Very good point and was one of the reasons I gave up ride sharing as a profession. Most insurance carriers will NOT cover you if you do ride sharing.

The majority of drivers don’t know this. If you get into an accident, get injured, your insurance and Uber & Lyft insurance will refuse to pay.

This is even worse than a minimum wage job with employee benefits. “Flexibility” argument is a psychological rationalization. There’s no flexibility. You’re a slave of an algorithm that is programmed to exploit you. The drivers deceive themselves that they have “flexibility.”

Cancelled a group of 4 ppl last night, felt great. Hope they don't post the video online because it's my private property they were driving in, but to say the least they're asking me to roll down the windows and after I said 'no' due to 80 degree weather, them literally going 2mins up the street, they start to argue. Any and all ppl who begin arguing with me, the ride gets cancelled. They make things awkward and secretly record you by asking questions that have nothing to do with genuine interest. I also 1starred this group of idiots when they both stood up in the car to switch, not wearing seatbelts. I reminded them that I started recording the ride because things began immediately awkard with unreasonable demands for a short distance ride. Order an UberComfort if you want your demands met.

The only thing I've learned while driving for Uber is they are willing to dry fuq u in the @$$ at any convenient chance. I loathe both of them, driving in Sarasota is like trading the value of your car for quick cash

I drive just over 6 months in the Phoenix market and slightly less than in the Minneapolis market. I have done it for around 9 years with most of that being in the Phoenix market; driving both started last Summer for me. I am originally from the Minneapolis area. Very disappointed by Landside at MSP : there is very little room for drivers in the holding lot yet the Black Car lot is wide wide open and the cell lots are also very open. Also, how can the drop off location at the airport be that much of a mess during Summer. They just do work when and where they want to with little regard for operations. Thank goodness they just repainted the pick up area. I enjoyed this video and concur with your points. I do this around 80% of my income. It sounds like your more part time at this point. I have gone back and forth as well. The biggest lesson for me is the importance of having a great attitude. Always try to bring cheer and joy to one's passengers. Never take frustrations with Uber or Lyft out on the passengers. This job truly is like running one's own business. Would enjoy for you to do a video with some thoughts on this market. I'd imagine others would too and Harry would not mind. 🙂

Same and I printed it out. Some of these mothers sneak up behind you, thinking they can be sleek. I now hand them the printout when they argue and explain that its a state law and has nothing to do with Uber or Lyft. They whine that they're going to be charged a cancellation fee, exactly. You need to carry a carseat

@@HarringJess I know it’s in their TOS, but most people don’t read it. Besides, it’s state law, which overrides Uber and Lyft’s rules.
