true fact, the merc 6x6 came about because of the australian army. about 20 years ago the aus army put out a tender to replace their aging land rover fleets and mercedes entered. at the time they didn't offer a 6x6 but one of the requirements was for said vehicle for things like ambulance and mobile workshop use. merc i believe won the contract but realised that they never offered a 6x6 vehicle to their normal market. so they took the design, gave it to AMG and this was born, the twin turbo 6x6. apparently quite popular.
