@skyden24195 Жыл бұрын
Umbara's defense force wasn't actually all that powerful. The only way they were able to mount any significant defense was due to a rogue Jedi-General giving his clone-forces suicidal orders, and the Umbarans still lost the overall battle. ...but it still was a pretty scary force to have to deal with.

The Naboo defence forces could have been far stronger _if_ the Humans and Gungans had a mutual defence treaty that united them against any outside invader. The Humans deliberately kept their forces weak so as to not appear to be a threat to their one time rivals. But a mutual defence force would have enabled them to build up instead. As well, by keeping some of their space fighting force hidden in Gungan underwater bunkers, the Naboo forces would be able to mount a suprise counter-attack, catching landing forces off guard. And with their completely different styles of combat, combined ground forces would have been far more difficult for a enemy to confront. The Gungan ground units would have benefited from having Humans with blasters and ground vehicles to back them up.

@marrqi7wini54 Жыл бұрын
Also with Naboo, unlike most planets, it has no molten core but one of flowing plasma and hollow tubes that you could reasonably use to travel across the planet with. Perfect for planetary bunkers!
@-CrimsoN- Жыл бұрын
I agree, but you're also forgetting one thing about the human Naboo. At least in Legends, the Naboo are settlers. The Gungans are the true indigenous species of the planet. I think the issue with the Gungans and humans never uniting was because the humans were technically colonialist invaders. The Trade Federation were far worse, but the humans who came to Naboo really only saught to exploit the planet. They ended up building a civilization, but it's no surprise that the Gungans never wanted to unite with the humans, who were invading their planet.
@Meravokas Жыл бұрын
@@-CrimsoN- While the Naboo had become extremely peaceful and (Almost) pacifistic in their nature, by the late Russan period. (Or even earlier, it's not clear) the original settlers and the gungans had been at odds with each other over land, territory and even ideology for what was likely hundreds of years or more. Leaving the Gungans extremely untrusting of most humans, but the (now politically and societally) established settlers in particular. As such a joint ground force was basically impossible. I realize you're saying similar things. But it was the long standing mistrust between the two (Particularly on the gungan side) that prevented anyone from working together until after 20-BBY. That said the only real reason aside from the pacifistic nature that the defense forces were under equipped or relatively easily swept aside didn't really have much to do with their equipment. Their blasters were extremely powerful and while the vehicles they had were light, well, we saw what one of the heavy anti vehicle blaster cannons a speeder could do to an AAT... Also the N-1 was by no means an under gunned fighter. While primarily an interceptor, the heavy fighter blaster cannons and the very high power blaster torp munitions on top of strong shielding for a fighter of it's size... Well, not many messed with the Naboo. The main crux was that for the non pilot corp, was that while there was some mandatory service training, many did not seek careers in the guard and when they were called up for defending the planet, there was a large number of those that did have service that were out of shape and out of practice. The only 'professionals' amongst the guard (As a whole) were the fighter corp and the royal guard. If there had been more men on the guard level with half of Panaka's skill at the time and vehicle crews of comparable levels, the invasion still would have been a success, but the resistance afterwards would have been much more successful. That said the highest trained were those in the fighter corp. With the danger that the vulture droids possessed under control ship coordination, we see most of the pilots in the movie being taken down by flak and the laser defense batteries, meaning they *Really* knew how to fly. Also forgive me for this post for being so long. I'm lore nerding... But there also was a civilization that lived on the planet a **Long** time ago. Neither the gungans nor modern humans built the ruins and ruined statues that were present on the planet, and were considered sacred places to the gungans. Which we've had no background on in the EU at all yet.
@Meravokas Жыл бұрын
It wasn't to appear as a non threat to the Gungans. They already kept their distance because continued conflict (Whenever it officially ended) was not advantageous to either side. It was simply the mindset that came into play over time. The need/desire to only police their own solar system with the power of the N-1 had (The surprise we see from veteran pilots of not getting through the DCS, says something) and the pacifistic nature, led to a small force, even if armed with very powerful weapons in limited numbers. The main issue with the Naboo PDF was it's small size and limited skill from a lack of active, and skilled career members. Many took their initial training rotation and left the blaster behind.

Probably somewhere between the early months of the XCOM Project, Stargate Command, and C&C's Global Defense Initiative. @tba113 Жыл бұрын
@@thegreenlightbulb6573 I didn't want to make assumptions about what future-tech we'd have, because adding Star Wars tech - even something as mundane for that setting as a basic droid brain, a repulsorlift, artificial gravity plating, or even just a blaster power pack - would be a _huge_ game-changer for how Earth's industries and technologies work. Since industry and tech determine what kind of military a society can put together, it would be really difficult to make any serious suggestion if you're assuming we have access to SW tech. So, instead I went with more or less what we have now. All three forces I mentioned started out as elite but ultimately pretty conventional modern military formations.
