Come to think of it, Spectre has the same issue as Star Trek Into Darkness. The publicists deny that the A-lister has been brought on board to play a classic villain. The script gives the villain and unfamiliar alias. (Or at least less familiar in the case of the 007 story since JB really does have a foster brother by that name in the novels.)

as a counterpoint on Once Upon A Time: that movie had me going literally right up until Leo's screaming at the Manson Family with a margarita pitcher in his hand, almost entirely on the grounds of me believing there was no _possible_ way he'd have the balls to pull an Inglorious Basterds _twice_. but that was the moment that made me realize in the theater that Pitt and Leo were about to dismantle those three in glorious fashion 😁

The surprise from Dark Knight 3 that I was disappointed by was that nolan didn't have Bruce say "Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb."

Yeah but sometimes your brain is engaged in a different way and the twist sneaks up on you. Like someone mentioned the Visit and I was honestly engaged with that as a family drama, kind of like The Sixth Sense. TBH, the twists in Shyamalan's movies can be fun but his really good movies don't need them. @@kwcy92

Yeah I saw The Village in the theater and don't recall too many people shouting, "Told ya so." at the reveal.

I see other comments suggesting that the end of The Visit was easier to guess than the end of The Village. For my part, actually, I fixated on the wrong clue. There's a line early in that movie about how the grandparents they're visiting never liked the father of the children. I took to thinking the kids were going to have half-demon DNA or something. When the grandparents turn psycho, one might expect the father to turn up as the rescuer.
@goldensuzaku7 ай бұрын
I swear I read a book that was pretty much the plot of The Village a long time before The Village came out so I guessed immediately. I wish I could remember the name of the book though. The MC wasn't blind but there was some type of illness going around and her mother gave her money she was saving in a black box that all the houses had that no kid was allowed to open and it was some type of attraction(?) where people outside can come and see through video cameras (and some kid climbed a tree because they saw something shiny in a hollow in it and got switched?) and sent her out to get medicine. Eventually she convinces an adult (doctor/nurse/teacher??? I don't remember) that she's telling the truth because she recites something and they remember from when they had gone to the attraction(?) when they were younger, before the MC faints because she's also ill.

The village was super easy for me to guess, barely an inconvenience. I'm a big history buff and the opening sequence just gave the location but never the date and it bugged because in the trailers it showed it could be anywhere in the 17 or 1800s. But not putting the date kept me trying to look at different things to figure it out and it didn't add up.

Trying to fool the public into thinking the hero is a villain was already a tired trope before the Penguin tried it in 1992's "Batman Returns". It was sad that Brad Bird thought this was exactly what "Incredibles 2" needed.

They should have just had the young idealistic cop in the Dark Knight be Dick Grayson. They were obviously alluding to him without actually using the character of Dick. But given how obvious it was, that he would take on Batman's mission, They might as well have just made him Dick Grayson and have his transformation into Nightwing showing that he'll honor Batman but also make the mission his own.

I guessed the "twist" in Malignant from the opening scene, and was genuinely surprised that anyone was surprised by it, because they fucking *_show_* it! My first problem is not guessing the ending but knowing people paid to watch Saw and X-Men sequels and prequels. The second is knowing Cameron, Shyamalan and Tarantino are all over rated. Avatar has great effects, I've seen it 3 times but deep down it's a predictable cartoon. There are other great directors just waiting for these 3 to take their money and egos and just retire. It's like an athlete who doesn't know his time has come and gone.
