His lead on The Unbeliever is outstanding, so fluid and expressive, love the twisting sequence of notes. I'd also add his classy solo on White Spirit's Cheetah, as well as the live version of Gillan's Bite the Bullet in Gillingham 1982, stunning virtuosity and what a killer tone.

Every matured musician will tell you that speed will always be less important than accuracy and articulation. You don't have to be a surgeon of guitar but these are basics of "musicianship". I like Janick's energy and some solos but he's awfully sloppy in comparison to Dave and Adrian who are also very fast.

yeah it's one of my favorites, and it's not just Janick either, the way they pass it back and fourth to each other is crazy, coz you think it's over and then they hit you with more, yet it never overstays it's welcome. Fantastic song..

Jannick is great! The way he jumps around the stage while playing is fun and and him just letting loose, I don't understand the haters at all, they are probably the fans that stand still at shows with no movement or interaction with the band or music! I myself also like to move about n shout a lot at gigs, if you wanna here everything exact listen to an album! Plus what would be the point of maiden having 3 of the same types of player! That's really restricting what a band of individuals can do! Love maiden and all the band! N the fans! Even the satic ones! Have a great day!!
@michaeldean7220
@michaeldean7220 4 ай бұрын
Nicely summed. What works so well is the differences between the guitarists. When it comes to stage craft I noticed that when janick joined it seemed to energize Dave and he moved around a bit more. If you look back at the Live After Death video Dave and Adrian do have the habit of being a little static on their sides of the stage. Sure some players like to be ' in the pocket ' but visually too much of that is not always the greatest to watch. With all 3 now you get plenty of variation. The same people who criticise Janick's playing are probably the same people who think it's smart to criticise Lars Ulrich. Usually not qualified to comment and failing to appreciate that both bring to their respective bands precisely what is needed on and off stage. If it was all about technique the likes of Malmsteen, Vai and Satch would have sold as many records as Maiden.

While I love the enthusiasm that Janick brings to the Iron Maiden live show I do agree with the posters who have called him sloppy. Even Rod Smallwood in the Flight 666 documentary says that they never know what Janick is going to do. I also think he is not nearly as melodic a player as Adrian or Dave. Sometimes he gets it right though. Blood Brothers, Dance of Death, Paschendale and The Book of Souls are all stellar and quite melodic for him.

The thing about Janick is you've got no idea where he's going to go. Even his most predictable licks catch you by surprise in a new song because he Just. Will. Not. Let. You. Know! PS: If he's sloppy and messy, how is Kirk Hammet considered a great guitarist? His solos are almost repetitive and overloaded with wah to cover up his technique or lack thereof!
