I think the #1 thing wrong with the timeline is actually that they don't have you on board to help advise them. Great video overall and kudos for the editing!

I think a good head canon answer (to me at least) to the many errors in What it...? is to simply assume the nexus event that caused the change isn't actually the small change presented in each episode's opening and title, but instead some event further in the past that happened to lead to the specific change we're somewhat focusing on Doesn't work for episode 4 though, as she's alive in the main timeline (since she's in m.o.m.) more than ten years later, which cannot be explained by any means other than the one you suggested in the past, all of this is of course in my own opinion.

I think it all still makes sense. It is the multiverse so anything is possible, including events happening before they do in the main timeline. Time in What If isn’t the sacred timeline branches anymore because Loki broke that, now, time is a prism as The Watcher puts it. It’s a complete multiverse now not just branches off the timeline.

It’s pretty clear that the original idea for End Game was to go back in time five years. Which would not have been a problem if the movies at the time were four years in the future (like Spiderman homecoming). But they decided to go a different route with time travel (for the best) and make the movies fives years ahead and keep the original dates of release (well most of them lol). Now we are playing catch up.

I think I had a very different perception of what "What If ..." entailed. To me, they weren't Nexus events, but actual parallel worlds, so anything *could* indeed happen, since they weren't part of the sacred timeline. In Loki, they said that the Time Lords unified all time streams to create the sacred timeline, but later on, after we have learned they are just a hoax, He Who Remained said that there are multiple other worlds (aka multiverse) out there and he just kept them at bay for this whole time. Time variances could break his barrier. Did I understand everything about What If and Loki wrong?

Great video. The only one I disagree with is Stan Lee’s Watcher cameo. There’s no reason why an informant of the watchers should have to conform to a linear timeline, we have no idea what his powers are or how he does what he does. Even if he can’t “time travel” the Watchers can definitely manipulate time. They could have plucked him from any point in his life easily.

I think the timeline is fluid... each major event has created ripples and the chronology is disrupted constantly within the MCU. I'd like to think that Mandela Effect or The Matrix like Deja vu's that occur, whether the character notices it or not, have been occurring throughout the major forms of media (movies, television, and others) on purpose. What if one of the next major event films does a Neo double-take, with a Black Cat? Would that fix any these errors in you opinion? Loki, What If..., the formal introduction of Kang, or maybe the next big bad could trigger this event! No Way Home seems to be tying in previous iterations of Spider-Man films... Maybe X-Men, Netflix Defenders, or even the infamous Inhumans can be reintroduced, in an altered way, that breaks all continuity, but in turn ties audiences to previous franchises without directly pulling what didn't work in those respective versions! Who needs continuity when timelines are fluid like splashing in a vast ocean of possibilities!
@Geekritique

Time is a natural convention of every story ever told. Every story needs continuity. Interlocking stories need it more-so to maintain suspended disbelief. I don’t really get the argument.
@PathsUnwritten

In 'Loki', I understood He Who Remains as explaining that every parallel universe was indeed an offshoot of the the main singular universe until his Kang War and consolidated them into his Sacred Timeline, thereby eliminating all others. At that point, he was not concerned about incursions from other Kang variants due to have eliminated all possibility of them until 'Loki'. I personally don't consider 'What If?' anything more than a fanfic offshoot like Agents of Shield or Inhumans.

@@Geekritique Thank you for the reply, Dakota. If standalone parallel universes are being brought in, that complicates things immensely, but I think the new Spider-Man 3 is heading in that direction, there is no way you can explain events from Peter in early 2000s and Peter in 2020s as nexus events in the same timeline. Either way, looking forward to see what they decide to do. Although I hope they don't end up breaking all the rules set up in Loki simply for cheap nostalgia and fanservice. 7:08 Extention to "Who Is President Anyway?" Ok, so there is also the confusion that there are Obama and Trump references in Luke Cage as well. Yes I am 100% aware that Luke Cage is no longer part of the "Sacred Timeline" as with most Marvel Television Productions. BUT It's still an issue because this has an effect on the multiverse potentially and is even an issue within its own universe as well. We are 90% sure at this point that even though the Marvel Television shows are not part of the "Sacred Timeline", they have kept the actors in the same roles in those for the MCU productions (if the rumours about Charlie Cox being Matt Murdock in Spiderman No Way Home, Vincent D'Onofio being Fisk in Hawkeye later down the line, Elizabeth Hentstridge and Chloe Bennett being Simmons and Quake in Secret Wars and possibly Kristen Ritter back as Jessica Jones in the upcoming Echo show that spins off Hawkeye turn out to be true - I know none of these confirmed apart from James D'arcy as Jarvis in Endgame but still.......) Therefore we can assume that the Marvel Television Universe is a Branched universe connected to the Sacred Timeline and not a "Parallel Universe" like the Raimi or Webb Spiderman universes or Fox's Xmen films would be that are not connected (again assuming they're showing up soon in NWH and Dr Strange MOM based on some rumours but those worlds can get away with having separate presidents, different casts etc as a result of non-connection). So what's the issue? Well we know for definate that Luke Cage is in the same universe as Daredevil and Punisher because of Defenders etc. But Agents of Shield directly refers to the gang wars the Punisher gets involved in in Daredevil Season 2 on a newsreel. That plus the Carl Creel references and the Agnes orphanage references as well suggest that Agents of Shield takes place in the same world as the Netflix shows (though they never cross over direclty). But Agents of Shield literally has Matthew Ellis show up as President as well played by the same actor from Iron Man 3. Oh dear. Whoops. Maybe this could be explained that The Netflix shows are a branch off a branch off a branch and that AOS and Luke Cage are similar but not quite the same branch but I think that will make any sane person who's keeping tabs on these things go cross eyed haha

@17:42 I believe you got this part wrong. Kang specifically says he created the TVA to prevent a "multiversal war". A branch in a timeline is the same as an alternate universe. The events of Loki S1 (and 2 somehow) allowed for What If, MoM and NWH to happen. That was the whole point of killing He Who Remains, and anything else would be nonsensical.

the reason why Thanos came early in the WHAT IF ultron episode is self explanatory recalling to the post credit scene of Age of Ultron. In the proper MCU continuity, he picks up the gauntlet and says "Fine, I'll do it myself". He probably said this because he had hopes of ultron winning and ending the world but came prepped with the gauntlet in-case he didnt. Although, ultron didnt win so presumably he started his hunt for the stones from there on. But in the WHAT IF continuity, Thanos started off the hunt early due to ultron already being behind his ears thinking it'd be a piece of cake for him. IK this isnt much great of an explanation but I dont have any other ideas for that ridiculous time jump

My suggestion for Thanos coming early in What If 8 is that when Ultron launched the nukes and destroyed Earth, he killed Odin in that retirement home Loki put him in. Perhaps Thanos then started his hunt early by taking the Tesseract from Asgard now that Odin was dead and possibly came to some agreement for Loki to hand it over in exchange for being spared. He then could have used it to take the other stones, with the only tricky explanation being the soul stone - but if Gamora could find where it was, perhaps Nebula could do so as well and she was sacrificed in place of her sister. Its a rather long-winded explanation for a problem that was simply overlooked by the writers but it could probably stand up.

So when is the new mcu timeline coming out
@racdude01
@racdude01 3 жыл бұрын
The problem with the what if episodes is that the very first one shows us the exact moment the timeline changed (nexus event occurs) and the proceeds to basically do a retelling of captain America just certain characters switched around. Episode 2 also tells us what event changed that caused this branch to occur (the event was yondu assigning 2 crewmates to get Peter instead of doing it himself, that event ripples into T’challa being taken instead) the following episodes happen after the nexus event has occurred and don’t really explain what exactly that event was though to some extent we can infer what it was. For instance episode 3 the event is Hank pyms daughter joining agents of shield and going on the mission in place of black widow that black talks about getting shot in the stomach in the winter soldier. In episode 4 the nexus event is strange and Christine staying in a relationship instead of breaking up as they do in the main timeline. This event causes that timeline to redline as all the what ifs events do. This creates a timeline where Christine’s death is an absolute point as it is the reason strange becomes a sorcerer and reversing her death with his sorcerer powers would create a paradox. In the main timeline the absolute point is his hands being damaged if he tried to use the stone to go back and undo that damage it would result in the same universal destruction. One thing that must be understand here is that the time stone works very different than time travel machines built by stark or fitz/Simmons on AOS. those machines relied on going through the quantum realm and coming back out at a previous point in your timeline where u could interact with your past self and any change you made would create a branching timeline. The time stone allows Strange to move back on his timeline as himself there isn’t a future and past version of himself interacting it’s one him thus any changes he makes won’t create a new timeline it will directly affect his future which is why trying to reverse Christine’s death creates a paradox aka absolute point. Which according to the creator had what if been written after Loki absolute points would’ve been called nexus points thus making them the inverse of a nexus event. In episode 8 we really rnt given much information as to what event changed that allowed Ultron to get the mindstone. Because we don’t know what the event was or when it even occurred we can attribute all timeline discrepancies as being related that whatever that event was. Perhaps the event was Thanos started his quest earlier and he used nebula to get the soul stone instead of Gamora. Or more likely the event somehow caused him to start his quest earlier. Let me know if that makes sense or if you disagree with any points I’ve made

I still can’t even find a definitive answer on whether or not Agents of Shield, Carter, Daredevil, etc. are canon to the MCU. Some sources say they are, some sources say they aren’t. Also, No Way Home gave yet ANOTHER explanation for the multiverse. I hope they find a way to make these all cohesive. Otherwise it will feel less satisfying to keep watching the MCU projects if it doesn’t feel like they’re connected.

--Easy patch job for MCU presidency: Obama beats Dubya Bush in 2004 & was inaugurated in January 2005. Then Ellis beats Obama in 2008 & is inaugurated in January 2009, serving 2 terms & putting him in position for all of the references to his presidency throughout the franchise. Ellis terms out in January 2017, & is succeeded by literally anyone but Hillary Clinton, since Runaways confirms she _didn't_ win (it's most likely Trump, though the references to his campaign in Luke Cage don't confirm that he *won,* but only that he *ran* ). --What I do with the D+ timeline is...not pay attention to the D+ timeline. The flawed interface of a streaming service that has been oft-criticized for its flawed interface is not reliable evidence of anything (especially since the blues festival poster is clearly advertising an _upcoming_ event, not a _current_ one). --I prefer the interpretation that the "6 months later" caption refers to 6 months after Ivan Vanko completes his first Whiplash suit, since that's the last event we see before that caption appears onscreen. --We're forgetting something very important about the explanation of the multiverse presented in the TVA: *It's a lie.* He Who Remains & Miss Minutes made it up as propaganda for the TVA agents to believe; the only thing "sacred" about the Sacred Timeline is that it results in He Who Remains's birth & NONE OF HIS OTHER VARIANTS. Parallel timelines & branch timelines are actually the same thing, & every single decision made by a being with free will can result in branches for each possible choice they could make. (And I figured the nexus event for What If episode 4 is Christine accepting Stephen's invitation to the award ceremony; after THAT point, her death is mandatory to ensure Strange becomes a sorcerer.) You're spot on about the multiverse getting messy quickly, though.
@TheGamerProBeardBro
@TheGamerProBeardBro 2 жыл бұрын
It’s already been confirmed that the infinite multiverse exists outside of the mcu, that was first introduced in the first Doctor Strange movie. However in Loki, Kang preserves all timelines by destroying all of them to keep one sacred timeline intact, when the timelines get more messy the more chaos erupts, but so far the TVA could’ve honestly just been lying about that the whole time because we’ve seen in What If that different far branched timelines can transform into an entirely new universes on their own. The TVA just wanted to make sure that no timeline in the mcu would generate more universes because once the timeline becomes it’s own separate universe, they cannot control it. So going back to the What If plot holes, all of the episodes are branched timelines that become their own universe, meaning they have no effect on the mcu nor the mcu has no effect on their universe, to explain the plot hole, the new timelines could’ve started centuries, even millennia before the episode takes place and that would indeed alter events that wouldn’t make sense in the mcu but does indeed make sense in their universe. That’s the only way it makes sense

So, the one thing I just want to suggest is the explanation of the absolute point. Perhaps the absolute point was exclusive for THAT specific timeline. Basically, no dead Christine, no Doctor Strange to stop Dormammu. Seeing as The Ancient One doesn’t seem to be aware of the Multiverse, so it’s possible this is an assumption she made based on her own knowledge of her own timeline. And if I’m wrong. About He Who Remains talk about universes, I get it looks like parallel universes but if the point of HWR plan is that he erases all universes except for the last one (where presumably he isn't born) to prevent the multiversal war, I guess all the universes were connected by a timeline at least at one point. About the What If ep 4, I heard someone commenting that maybe the thing about the Absolute Point is that Strange didn't just try to change the past in the Endgame, but use the Time Stone to try to rewrite his own universe without creating a new branch. I hope they explain better the difference between Universe, Dimension, Timeline and Reality in future proyects

This channel has my level of going over and over and over this timeline again and again and I love it! I do find myself having to ignore certain elements in order to make it work though which can be quite annoying. For example I tend to treat Iron Man as being set in 2010 and ignoring Vision’s “8 years” line from Civil War to make everything else fit better. I just take it in as him saying “Since Mr Stark announced he was Iron Man.” without including the time period. This also being said by the same man who was annoyed all the way through his first time watching Spider-Man: Homecoming because of that dumb “8 Years Later” title card. We’re all just gonna say that Liz Toomes was shit at drawing when she was like 13. 😂

@@Geekritique I think March 2024, before *Shang-Chi* and *Falcon* fits best for a few reasons. The writers claim it takes place around the time of *Falcon* and that makes more sense to me than the producer's *Far From Home* claims. No matter what people tell you about London weather, there's no way the characters would be walking around in heavy coats and scarves in June if it was to line up with Far From Home. 😂 So I'd put it anywhere between October and March. Ajak's claim that Thanos' Snap occurred 5 years ago would be wrong if the movie takes place in 2024 but seeing as March 2024 isn't quite 6 years from the May 2018 snap; the 5 years comment sort of makes sense although most people would round up to 6 years. I know there are fallen leaves in the Kentucky scenes when they visit Phastos but we could conclude that those are just dead leaves that were never swept up after the Autumn / Winter. I'm fine with either early Spring 2024 or Autumn / Winter 2024 as long as June 2024 isn't where they place it on the Disney+ timeline. 🤮 My preference is to go closer with what the writers say but still placing before *Shang-Chi* and Falcon. This is also because Eternals was intended for release before *Shang-Chi* and *Falcon* is just more stretched out timeline wise than the two of those films.

1000% agree on Iron Man 3 being Christmas 2012 before Thor which is 2013. As for Black Widow & Black Panther, I agree Widow comes first, HOWEVER, one could argue a high bulk of the film takes place maybe a month after Civil War - I doubt Nat was in that mobile trailer for too long where as the beginning of Panther clearly establishes they just buried their previous King a week before the movie began which I imagine wouldn’t be too long after Civil War. Easiest answer is they take place simultaneously. It’s a tricky argument, just like people see the beginning scene of Dark World & automatically think it’s gotta be after Avenger 1 because of Loki’s sentencing but, who knows how long Thor had to travel the realms & calm things down before returning after killing Korg’s “cousin.” I’d argue the bulk of Dark World is 2013 & only the beginning scene is 2012.

So just to clarify for your next timeline, as far as I can tell, Hawkeye is December 2025. In the first episode, a news reporter says it's been years since the last sighting of Ronin. Years, as in plural. That means it's been at least 2 years since Endgame, which was 2023. Secondly, for the amount of time it would've taken for something like Rogers: The Musical to be written, pitched, approved, casted, choreographed, and over put together in universe, 1 year is not enough time for something like that to happen. Lastly, one of the writers of the show did indeed say it takes place in 2025.

There’s signage in some shots saying that New Years 2025 is coming, so that’s the biggest reason we know it takes place in 2024. As far as the news reporter, I can’t say. For a period of time, we were going to set it two years out - which would make it 2025 - hence me messing with your minds about the timeline. But it’s 1 year out.”
